Making Leighton Buzzard and Linslade a Cycle-Friendly Town A Cycling Strategy for Leighton Buzzard and Linslade Recommended to the Local Authorities by Leighton Buzzcycles - the Leighton Linslade Cycling Forum First Version Published February 2007 Revised and updated February 2010 and November 2013 This revision: January 2018 1 Cycling is good … for people - and not just the ones on bikes, for the environment, local and global, for the local economy for local communities We want to encourage everyone in Leighton Linslade to choose to cycle more – a modal shift away from private car use – a truly realistic alternative for everyone. Current barriers to cycling … … in Leighton Buzzard and Linslade Geographic – River Ouzel, Clipstone Brook, Grand Union Canal, railway, busy ‘spoke’ roads and surrounding roads (A5, A505, A4146) Physical – traffic volume and speed, barriers, lack of cycle parking and storage, lack of complete traffic-free routes for children and beginners (gaps in cycle path network) Mental – lack of confidence/skills, lack of working bike, lack of knowledge of routes (particularly among new people moving into new estates), bad and dangerous driving, false perceptions of journey times Good things about cycling … … in Leighton Buzzard and Linslade Size of town – all journeys are achievable distance-wise, even to and from neighbouring villages/towns Basis of a good cycle path network (NCN6, Riverside Walk, Black Bridge etc) that creates traffic-free short cuts A lot of previous investment (Cycle Town etc) into cycle

  • Luton Motor Town
Contents Luton: Motor Town Luton: Motor Town 1910 - 2000 The resources in this pack focus on the major changes in the town during the 20th century. For the majority of the period Luton was a prosperous, optimistic town that encouraged forward-looking local planning and policy. The Straw Hat Boom Town, seeing problems ahead in its dependence on a single industry, worked hard to attract and develop new industries. In doing so it fuelled a growth that changed the town forever. However Luton became almost as dependant on the motor industry as it had been on the hat industry. The aim of this pack is to provide a core of resources that will help pupils studying local history at KS2 and 3 form a picture of Luton at this time. The primary evidence included in this pack may photocopied for educational use. If you wish to reproduce any part of this park for any other purpose then you should first contact Luton Museum Service for permission. Please remember these sheets are for educational use only. Normal copyright protection applies. Contents 1: Teachers’ Notes Suggestions for using these resources Bibliography 2: The Town and its buildings 20th Century Descriptions A collection of references to the town from a variety of sources. They illustrate how the town has been viewed by others during this period. Luton Council on Luton The following are quotes from the Year Book and Official Guides produced by Luton Council over the years. They offer an idea of how the Luton Council saw the town it was running.

  • Reflections & Prayers for Sunday 11 October 2020
Reflections & Prayers for Sunday 11th October 2020 This week we look at Stewardship. During lockdown, many have used their gifts, abilities, and talents God has given by sewing masks, scrubs, or doing shopping for those isolating – all ways of loving our neighbours. Today Tom Venner helps us look at loving God with our money. 1 Contents Reading for this Sunday p. 2 Reflection p. 3-5 Prayers p. 6-7 Parish Prayers p. 8-9 Gospel Reading Luke 18:18-30 A certain ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother.’” He replied, “I have kept all these since my youth.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “There is still one thing lacking. Sell all that you own and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” But when he heard this, he became sad; for he was very rich. Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” He replied, “What is impossible for mortals is possible for God.” Then Peter said, “Look, we have left our homes and followed you.” And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not get back very much more in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.” 2 Reflection from Tom Venner It is commonly said that one should not speak of religion, politics or money in polite society, but in today’s Gospel Jesus is challenging us to think of all three.
