For twenty years the Netherlands’ greatest artist lived and worked in this impressive building in the heart of Amsterdam, now a museum. The Rembrandt House Museum gives visitors a complete Rembrandt experience. With a seventeenth-century inventory as a guide, the house has been meticulously refurbished with furniture, art and objects from that time. The museum has an almost complete collection of Rembrandt etchings and stages inspiring exhibitions about Rembrandt, his predecessors, contemporaries and pupils. The Rembrandt House Museum is also a venue for exhibitions of work by contemporary artists—artists who have been inspired by the work of Rembrandt, their seventeenth-century predecessor. The surcharge does not apply to children under 18 or ICOM members. Audiotour The use of the audio tour (Dutch, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chineses (Mandarin), Russian) is included in the admission charge. There is a special children’s audio tour in Dutch and English. Guided Tours A guided tour through the museum is available on request and needs to be confirmed at least two weeks in advance. The maximum group size is 15 persons per tour. Groups larger than 15 people will be divided into smaller groups and tours can take place simultaneously. A guided tour takes about an hour and is offered in different languages. Tours during opening hours 10:00 – 18:00h During opening hours we offer the opportunity to visit the museum and get a guided tour of one of our guides. Tours outside opening hours It is possible to book tours before opening hours, between 09:00 and 10:00h and after opening hours, between 18:00 and 20:00h. More persons: 50 euro extra per person. Group bookings The Rembrandt House Museum offers voucher contracting party's the possibility to make group reservations for specific timeslots and dates. A group reservation can only be paid by invoice following the visit. Larger groups are split up in groups of 15. Activities: daily etching and paint-making demonstrations Throughout the day demonstrations are held in Rembrandt’s former house. The paint-making demonstration in Rembrandt’s studio shows you how paint was made in Rembrandt’s day. The etching demonstrations on an antique press in Rembrandt’s etching room show you how an etching is printed. There is a webshop as well, at www.rembrandthuis.nl. Duration of visit A visit to the Rembrandt House Museum takes approximately 1 to 1,5 hours. Cloakroom The cloakroom is unguarded. Small safes are available. Suitcases cannot be accommodated. Facilities for the Disabled The accessibility to Rembrandt’s old house is difficult for the disabled, due to the many floors and narrow staircases. The exhibition rooms in the new wing can be reached by elevator. There is a reduced admission charge for the disabled (€ 7,50 p.p.). It is not possible to park in front of the museum: A parking place for the disabled is located nearby (ca. 200 m) at Waterlooplein. The museum has a special toilet for the disabled.
