Although Colgate held the only all-rookie goaltending group in the nation, the Raiders held its opponent scoreless on the power play 16 times and earned 1995-96 17-13-4 13-5-4 ECAC Quarterfinals three weekend sweeps. In a 3-2 overtime win on Jan. 26, Colgate earned its first victory 1996-97 16-14-3 10-9-3 ECAC Final Five over Cornell since Feb. 8, 2014 while it also marked the first win in Ithaca since Jan. 27, 2012. 1997-98 16-15-4 9-10-3 ECAC Quarterfinals Vaughan led the Raiders to their 24th ECAC Hockey Tournament appearance in 2017-18. It was a season where Vaughan tallied his 400th career win by a 2-1 final at Brown. The 1998-99 19-12-4 12-8-2 ECAC Final Five previous 2016-17 season was highlighted by Vaughan guiding the Raiders to the 1,000th win in program history, becoming the 23rd team in college hockey history to do so. His 961 1999-00 24-9-2 14-4-2 ECAC Final Four games at the helm of the program is the third-longest tenure in college hockey behind Rick NCAA Regional Gotkin (Mercyhurst, 31), and Bob Daniels (Ferris State, 27). 2000-01 10-20-4 8-13-1 -- During his tenure, Vaughan has graduated 99 percent of his players and since 2002, his athletes have been named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team 200 times. 2001-02 13-19-2 10-10-2 ECAC First Round The Raiders began the 2015-16 season being ranked in the top-20 of the USCHO.com 2002-03 17-19-4 9-10-3 ECAC Quarterfinals Preseason Poll for the second straight year after a standout 2014-15 campaign. That year, the Raiders advanced to the ECAC Championship for the second straight season. Colgate 2004-05 25-11-3 14-5-3 ECAC Final Four was nationally ranked for majority of the year as it reached as high as No. 4 in both polls. NCAA Regional Vaughan had previously led Colgate to a highly successful 2013-14 season that featured the Raiders first NCAA Tournament berth in nine seasons by an at-large record of 20-14- 2005-06 20-13-6 14-6-2 ECAC Final Four 5. Piloting a youthful lineup of 17 underclassmen, Colgate recorded eight victories against 2006-07 15-21-4 7-12-3 ECAC Quarterfinals ranked teams, before ending the season at No. 13. The same year, Colgate claimed the Mariucci Classic title in Jan. 2014 when it recorded a shootout win against No. 1 Minnesota 2007-08 18-18-6 8-9-5 ECAC Final Four and a shutout of No. 2 Ferris State. 2008-09 12-18-7 6-11-5 ECAC First Round Under Vaughan’s tutelage, Austin Smith led the nation in goals in the 2011-12 season with 36, named an All-American, and became Colgate’s first Hobey Hat Trick Finalist. He was the 2009-10 15-15-6 12-8-2 ECAC Quarterfinals second ECAC Hockey Player of the Year under Vaughan, joining Andy McDonald (2000). 2010-11 11-28-3 4-15-3 ECAC Final Four Vaughan’s 15th season was a special one, as on Feb. 16, 2008, he became the school’s 2011-12 19-17-3 11-10-1 ECAC Final Four all-time winningest coach as Colgate blanked Union 8-0. During the 2005-06 campaign, Vaughan continued to lead Colgate to new heights, as the Raiders captured their second 2012-13 14-18-4 6-13-3 ECAC First Round ECAC Hockey Regular Season title in three years, and won 20-plus games for the third consecutive season, a first in program history. BEFORE COLGATE Vaughan began his coaching career as a player/coach with the Enschede Lions of the Dutch Professional Hockey League from 1984-85, before returning to serve as a graduate assistant coach at St. Lawrence during 1985-86, where he specialized in coaching special teams, served as the recruiting coordinator, and as head coach of the junior varsity team. SLU earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since Vaughan was a player. Vaughan next went to Cornell, where they reached the ECAC Final Four both seasons he was with the program. His personal string of Final Four appearances extended to six as he completed his second stint as an assistant coach at St. Lawrence, where he earned his second ECAC Tournament Title and made his third trip to the NCAA Tournament. OF HOCKEY OPS A 1984 graduate of St. Lawrence, Vaughan played three seasons of varsity hockey for the Saints after earning All-America status in his only season at Canton College. While with the DANA BORGES BRETT RILEY JAKE PALUCH Saints, Vaughan tallied 41 goals and 49 assists for 90 points in 96 games as a center. In 1983, Vaughan and St. Lawrence earned an NCAA Tournament appearance and first-place finish in the ECAC’s West Region. He graduated from St. Lawrence in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in FIRST SEASON FIRST SEASON FIRST SEASON economics, later earning a master’s degree in general studies in 1987.
