TO A PHILIPPINES CHICKEN COOP! On many occasions players have asked me about my “life and game” journey and some of the unique experiences encountered along the way. Looking back I see how specific venues became catalysts and/or “equip- ping points” for yet one more opportunity to enjoy a new adventure. Three of these moments in billiard history embrace my memory banks and I would like to share them with you. My first experience was Elsie’s Pool Room in Minonk, Illinois in 1959. Elsie was a great lady and ran a 3-table room with motherly discipline and a high respect for the game of pool. At the age of 10 my father took me into Elsie’s to introduce me to the “sights and sounds” of what has become for me a magnetic attraction and heartfelt passion for over 5 decades. I swept the floors, delivered food orders to the players, filled the pop cooler, and “racked” the pool balls when someone yelled “RACK” - earning 10% of what was taken in on a Saturday night. In addition, Elsie gave me a special “perk” - a gigantic bag of golden brown French fries, which I graciously shared with my father on the way home! The foundation of the game (and life) learned at Elsie’s has become a stewardship anchor for me to present day. Moving forward to ESPN days reveals a memorable series of events (Trick Shot Magic and World Cup of Trick Shots). After years of mechanical, mental, mathematical, and spirit-filled equipping I entered the ESPN arena for the first time in 2002 to garner a championship victory that can only be explained as miraculous in nature. To read the entire story entitled: “The Angel, The Mountain, and The Victory” please visit: www.drcuepromo- tions.com (click on the “Schedule/Travelogue” menu tab; then, the “story behind the story” - 2002 ESPN). The individual format for Trick Shot Magic and the team format for the World Cup of Trick Shots provided a competi- tive awareness and special fellowship interactions that would equip me for future faith - inspired steps in my journey. The third “life and game” experience leaving an indelible mark in my mind and heart happened in 2012 in the Philippines. I was doing a 4-week ministry outreach with Gospel Trick Shot Ministries sharing the “good news”, faith-driven testimonials, and RACK Vision principles (also found on www.drcuepromo- tions.com). A few days before we flew home, a local pastor asked our “outreach” team to do one final presentation at a small village room with one pool table in it. What a surprise when we arrived! A makeshift playfield sat upon wobbly legs, which sat upon a mud floor. It would take a miracle to garner “pool results” on the table from the shots that would be shown, but then again, we were not there for “pool results” - we were there to share a special message of hope and joy to a packed house, so to speak! People gathered inside the “miniature” building like sardines in a can (a literal chicken coop), while others peered through 2 open-air windows, a narrow doorway, and small cracks in the walls. During the presentation, a chicken casually strolled across the floor, taking everything in stride, as if to enjoy the roll (and stories) going on above. The facial expressions and vocal responses of each person there confirmed they “got the message” amid the “unusual, and yet special space” we were allowed to share in. May each of you experience special and often “unique” circumstances in your cue sport journey, and may you always “enjoy the roll” until next time when... Contact: Mike Panozzo United States Billiard Media Association 312-341-1110 [email protected] Rob Johnson Billiard Congress of America 303-243-5070 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Karen Corr Earns Enshrinement in Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame Broomfield, Colo., July 19, 2012 — The United States Billiard Media Association today announced that Karen Corr will be inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in 2012. In 1998, when Corr moved to United States and traded snooker for American 9-ball she attacked the Women’s Professional Billiard Association Classic Tour with precision shooting and unbreakable concentration. Corr’s quick rise to the top and her consistent dominance on American soil has earned her the only spot in this year’s BCA Hall of Fame class. The Northern Ireland born Corr, 42, will be formally inducted into Greatest Player wing of the BCA Hall of Fame on October 26, 2012 during ceremonies at the Holiday Inn in Virginia Beach, VA. Shortly after winning her fourth world snooker title in 1997, Corr moved to the U.S., switched her game to 9-ball and raced through one WPBA qualifier after another in pursuit of a Classic Tour touring card. After just six months, Corr was ranked 24th in the WPBA, rising to No. 4 in 1999. She captured her first Classic Tour title in 2000, the Cuetec Cues Players Championship. She added two more tour titles in 2000, and then rose to the No. 1 ranking in 2001 with an amazing six titles. In the same year, she also was named Player of the Year (POY) by Pool & Billiard Magazine and Billiards Digest, breaking Allison Fisher’s string of five consecutive POY honors.

It’s World Pool time again page 1 of 3 Column for Philippine Daily Inquirer PDI 07-17, 11-01-07 [for publication on 11-03-2007] It’s World Pool time again Mahar Mangahas It’s time to go for pool glory again, as 128 of the finest players on the planet clash in the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship (WPC) at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, from today, November 3, up to Sunday, November 11th. There will be several hours of live telecasts every day, simultaneously on ABS-CBN (Studio 23 at first, and possibly also Channel 2 later) for matches of more interest to locals, and on ESPN for matches aimed at global viewers. The WPC is the flagship event of the World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA), the international governing body for pool. First staged in 1990, it is now the most prestigious pool tournament in the world, with a prize of US$100,000 to the champion. Under a long-term agreement with WPA, since 1999 the WPC tournament has been managed by the British company Matchroom Sport. In 2006, the WPC came for the first time to the Philippines, which Matchroom calls “the spiritual home of pool.” The host-country stager is again Raya Sports, in partnership with the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP). The three great pool powers in the world today are the Philippines, Taiwan, and the United States – in that order, in my opinion as a relatively ancient aficionado, salted no doubt by a pinch of national pride.

2010-2011 Official Rules of the BCA Pool League Our Goal To create and improve opportunities for pool players of all abilities through fair governance and equitable policies. Effective June 1, 2010 BCA Pool League 2041 Pabco Road Henderson, NV 89011 (702) 719-7665 OFFICIAL RULES OF THE BCA POOL LEAGUE www.playbca.com Copyright 2010 BCA Pool League A Message from Mark Griffin Welcome to the 2010-2011 edition of the Official Rules of the BCA Pool League (BCAPL). Our organization has received widespread praise for having the most detailed and clear set of rules in the industry. Comments from players, officials and league operators are overwhelmingly in favor of our approach to presenting rules that guarantee consistency in enforcement throughout all league competition and tournaments. Mike Shamos, resident rules guru for Billiards Digest and one of pool’s most respected individuals, wrote: “The Official Rules of the BCA Pool League are the most extensive set of rules in history, and for the first time they are accompanied by interpretive decisions. The “Applied Rulings” section deserves serious study. It is of course impossible to write a rule set that deals with every conceivable happenstance. Even the USGA rules don’t try to do that. Therefore, referees and tournament directors must be guided by interpretations so they can make intelligent rulings when new situations arise. I’m not declaring their rules to be perfect, but they try to be. The rules themselves and their interpretations have been given a great deal of thought, and the reasoning behind them is not hidden but is right there on the page.
