1 Welcome!

COVID POLICY UPDATE 5/23 On May 13, the CDC announced that those who are vaccinated no longer need to wear Masks in most indoor situations. Following this update, the State of Colorado updated its policy as follows: Fully vaccinated people can go without masks in public indoor spaces unless the setting requires otherwise. Unvaccinated people over age 11 are encouraged to continue wearing masks in all public indoor spaces. People who do not have to wear a mask, even if unvaccinated, include: • People who are 10 years old and younger. • People who cannot medically tolerate a face covering. • Children younger than 2 years old should NOT wear masks. As Emmaus moves into this next phase of less-restricted life, we do ask that we continue to show charity to one another. Some are not vaccinated because of availability, some by conviction, others for a variety of reasons. We are not requiring anyone to wear a mask but are trusting people’s own good sense based on their situation. If someone is wearing a mask, we can presume that person would like others to respect their desire to maintain social distancing guidelines while around them. Hugging them may have to wait a little longer. Beginning this Sunday, Pentecost, we will be serving wine, the Blood of Christ, in individual servings. We will also offer coffee hour outdoors. We serve Sacred Food and Drink here…please don’t bring beverages or snacks into church during worship (kids excepted).

Please turn off your cell phones. A deacon calls the people to prepare themselves for worship. The people kneel, and observe a time of silent . Preparatory for Individuals Be present, be present, o Jesus, our High Priest, as you were present with your disciples, and be known to us in the breaking of bread; who live and reign, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. They may be said or sung. Celebrant Lord have mercy upon us. People Christ have mercy upon us. Celebrant Lord have mercy upon us.

5 THE COLLECT OF THE DAY The Celebrant says to the People

The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Officiant Let us pray. Grant us, O Lord, we pray, the spirit to think and do always those things that are right, that we, who can do no good thing apart from you, may by you be enabled to live according to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. INDEPENDENCE DAY United States of America on July 4

Old Testament Ezekiel 2:1-7 And he said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak with you.” 2 And as he spoke to me, the Spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and I heard him speaking to me. 3 And he said to me, “Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. 4 The descendants also are impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ 5 And whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house) they will know that a prophet has been among them. 6 And you, son of man, be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions. Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. 7 And you shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house. Reader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

Psalm 123 1 Unto you I lift up my eyes, * you who are enthroned in the heavens. 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, * and as the eyes of a maiden to the hand of her mistress, 3 Even so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, * until he show us his favor. 4 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us, * for we have suffered more than enough contempt.

7 5 Long has our soul suffered the scorn of the wealthy * and the spitefulness of the proud. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Epistle Reading 2 Corinthians 12:2-10 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. 3 And I know that this man was caught up into paradise—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— 4 and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. 5 On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses— 6 though if I should wish to boast, I would not be a fool, for I would be speaking the truth; but I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. Reader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be God.

10 The Holy Gospel Deacon The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, according to St. Mark. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. Mark 6:1-6 He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. 2 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own house- hold.” 5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

THE SERMON Fr. Zac Nash

11 THE NICENE CREED Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed: Celebrant and People We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the † resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

12 THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Deacon Let us pray for the Church and for the world, saying, “hear our prayer.” Lector For the peace of the whole world, and for the well-being and unity of the people of God. Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. For Foley, our Archbishop, and Bill, our Bishop, and for all the clergy and people of our Congregation, especially Fathers Theron & Charles, and Zac, Deacons Erin, Jim, and Adam, in our parish: ______, those celebrating birthdays:______, those celebrating anniversaries:______, in our diocese:_____, and in our town:______. Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. For all those who proclaim the Gospel at home and abroad; and for all who teach and disciple others. Especially: ______. Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. For our brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted for their faith, especially in ______. Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer.

13 For our nation, for those in authority, and for all in public service especially: ______. Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. For soldiers of this nation deployed to fight for the sake of righteousness and freedom, and for those who bear the wounds of combat: ______. Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. For all those who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity, especially: ______(the people are encouraged to pray aloud for others). Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. For all those who have departed this life in the certain hope of the resurrection, [especially ______,] in thanksgiving let us pray. Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. The Deacon concludes with this or some other appropriate Collect. Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for the sake of Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

14 THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SIN The Deacon says the following Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God. Silence The Deacon and People kneel as able and pray Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Bishop or Priest stands and says Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy † upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. THE COMFORTABLE WORDS The Deacon then says, Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him. THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be always with you. And with your spirit. Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the Name of the Lord.

15 THE OFFERTORY Please sing as the clergy wash hands to prepare the holy table.

16

The People stand while the offerings are presented. Celebrant All things come from you, O Lord, People And of your own have we given you. 1 CHRONICLES 29

17 THE SURSUM CORDA

The People remain standing. The Celebrant faces them and sings or says

The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them up to the Lord. Celebrant. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give him thanks and praise.

The Celebrant continues

It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who on the first day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

18 THE SANCTUS

Holy holy holy Lord God of power and might Heaven and earth are filled With Your glory Hosanna in the highest Blessed † is He who comes In the name of the Lord. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Holy holy holy Lord.

Holy, Holy, Holy, #1 John Michael Talbot 1982 Birdwing Music

THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION The People stand or kneel. The Celebrant continues Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son Jesus Christ into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the Cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.

19 On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body, which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.” †

Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.” † Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and People Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify † us also, that we may worthily receive this holy Sacrament, and be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us and we in him. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us with [______] and all your saints into the joy of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. †

20 THE LORD’S PRAYER And now as our savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray: Officiant and People

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And † lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE FRACTION

If the consecrated Bread was not broken earlier, the Celebrant breaks it now. A period of silence is kept. Celebrant Alleluia! The disciples knew the Lord Jesus! People In the breaking of the bread. Alleluia!

21 THE PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS Celebrant and People together may say We do not presume to come to this your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. Apart from your grace, we are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table; but you are the same Lord whose character is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

Taste and See Psalm 34 Taste and see the goodness of the Lord Let us taste the goodness of the Lord.

22 THE MINISTRATION OF COMMUNION Facing the People, the Celebrant may say the following invitation Behold the Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Please come forward by row up the center to receive the Sacrament. All baptized Christians are welcome. Take and eat the bread, then take and drink the wine. The cups will be cleaned reverently as they held the blood of Christ.

If you are not baptized, it would be our pleasure to bless in the Lord’s Name. Please come forward, cross your arms over your chest, and the priest will offer up a special prayer for you. If you need gluten free bread, let the priest know.

.THE ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION For those who cannot receive the Sacrament this day. The family prays together, or, if possible, each individual prays silently in their heart. Dear Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to possess you within my soul, and since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself to you, together with all your faithful people, gathered around every altar of your Church, and I embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

24 THE POST COMMUNION PRAYER Let us pray. Celebrant and People together say the following, Heavenly Father, We thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal Kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. People accompany their first three responses with a sweep of the arm towards the cross above the holy table, and their final response with a sweep towards heaven. From the of Common Prayer of Kenya. Minister All our problems, People We send to the cross of Christ. Minister All our difficulties. People We send to the cross of Christ. Minister All the devil’s works.
