Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Unsicher Wann Superstar Earl Thomas Zum Team Zurückkehrt

PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn SEATTLE SEAHAWKS Team History When the Seattle Seahawks took the field for the first time in the 1976 season, it marked the culmination of a quest for a National Football League franchise that had its roots in the Pacific Northwest metropolis as early as 1957. That is when discussion first began about the possibilities of constructing a domed stadium that would assure a major league sports franchise for the city. On June 4, 1974, the NFL awarded its 28th franchise to Seattle to play in the 64,984-seat Kingdome. A civic suggestion campaign netted 20,365 entries and 1,741 different names, but “Seahawks” was selected and announced on June 17, 1975. Just a little more than two months later, after a 27-day sale, the season ticket campaign was shut off with 59,000 tickets sold. On January 3, 1976, Jack Patera, who had been a Minnesota assistant coach, was named the team’s first head coach. The Seahawks finished 2-12 in 1976, when they played in the NFC, and 5-9 in 1977, when they moved into the AFC. The Seahawks had winning 9-7 records in both 1978 and 1979 and Patera was named NFL Coach of the Year the second year. The strike-shortened 1982 season proved to be a transitional year for all of pro football, but no club fit the transitional description better than the Seahawks. Patera was removed after six-plus years as head coach. Mike McCormack finished the season as interim head coach and then was replaced in 1983 by Chuck Knox, who guided the Seahawks to an 83-67-0 record in nine seasons up through the 1991 campaign. -

4 Elements of Leadership 1
Michael Lombardi New England Patriots “The Difference Between Good Coaches & Bad Coaches” -Because the season is so busy, you need to find avenues of time spent to study the league because you need to continually grow. The league will pass you by if you don’t. Time is the challenge, you must spend time studying the league. 4 Elements of Leadership 1. Management of attention (having a plan) 2. Management of meaning (ability to communicate that plan) 3. Management of trust (players trust you to be consistent) 4. Management of self (hardest; self-critical) -Coaching is leadership. It isn’t a separate issue or a vocation. Being a coach is about being a good leader -The system is a by-product of the management of attention. The system gets their attention, it’s their ability to explain the system to them. You must have a belief or a system of what you want to do. -If the head coach doesn’t come in with a philosophy or a system (of what you want to become as a team, a leader, as a head coach), you end up with a bunch of independent contractors. If the head coach doesn’t come in within a philosophy or an understanding and he has to sub-contract all that out, it will be very hard for him to sustain leadership over a long period of time. -We are in an industry of specialization. The best NFL head coaches have had an involvement in all areas of a football team. -There’s a difference between change and modify. -

Seay III - 2 - INTRODUCTION The Wild Bunch celebrates its sixth birthday in 2006. This revised playbook reflects the lessons learned during that period by Wild Bunch coaches on three continents operating at every level from coaching 8-year-olds to semi-professionals. The biggest change so far in the offense has been the addition in 2004 of the Rocket Sweep series (pp. 62-72). A public high school in Chicago and a semi-pro team in New Jersey both reached their championship game using the new Rocket-fueled Wild Bunch. A youth team in Utah won its state championship running the offense practically verbatim from the playbook. A number of coaches have requested video resources on the Wild Bunch, and I am happy to say a DVD project is taking shape which will feature not only game footage but extensive whiteboard analysis of the offense, as well as information on its installation.
