Parador De Benavente PARADOR DE BENAVENTE Parador de Benavente Surroundings Situated at one of the most important confluences of communications routes in Spain; its enviable location in the northwestern part of the peninsula has made it an important crossroads throughout history. It lies on various pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela: the Vía de la Plata (Silver Route), Camino de Oriente (Eastern Asturias Route), Valladolid Route, Tera Valley Route and Asturias Route. The venue for the legislative assembly in 1176, the Parador de Turismo de Benavente is located on the site of the former castle/palace of the counts of Benavente. Construction of the building began in the 12th century and it was subsequently expanded by successive occupants in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. The hotel is connected to the Renaissance-style Caracol Tower, the only part of the former structure to be preserved. It is also next to La Mota Gardens, Benavente's most important green space, with excellent views of the Tera and Órbigo river valleys. The tower features a magnificent Mudejar coffered ceiling and a period bar. Urban hotels at the heart of the city Parador de Benavente Rooms How to arrive The most common route is via the A-6 (Madrid-A Coruña).
ABSTRACT Just a day later, the province of Zamora joined the military national rebelion that happened on 18th july 1936, because the military officials knew about the existence of the coup since spring and, as a result, they supported it. Zamora became one of the sym- bols of the Spain of Franco. Quickly he built that new Spain, first from Burgos and then from Salamanca, by controlling and oppressing every aspect of life. The changes in education, the Falangist control, the Army, the Guardia Civil (spa- nish police) and the clerical orientation from their churchies and offices, together with a lack of information as well as the poor means of communication, designed a kind of behaviour, the moral and thoughts of the people of Zamora, specially made up of far- mers and workers.

SUMMARY.— On the basis of the inventories of the area itself, the tree and bush communities of the central western part of the province of Zamora are described. Af ter placing the territory, a general report is made on the measurable factors conditio ning the existence of the biocoenoses. Floristic, ecological, corological and physiogno mic data of the different associations are also described and new syntaxons are intro duced into the science. In the present work we document and analyze traditional knowledge relating to the use of different plants as fuel and lighting, as wood bur- ned for different purposes (hearths, ovens, etc) and for the elaboration of charcoal by the inhabitants of the Arribes del Duero area (Salamanca- Zamora, Spain). We interviewed 80 informants (44 men and 36 women, with a mean age range of 72 (from 45 to 98) who use or who have recently used 39 vascular plants (including 19 botanical families) as fuel. In all cases those plants were exploited in a sustainable way. We performed the calculations necessary to unveil the cultural importance (CI) of each species. The most important taxa were Quercus ilex L. subsp. ballota (Desf.) Samp. (CI = 0.90) and Cytisus multiflorus (L’Hér.) Sweet (CI = 0.84). • Morphogenesis of the Ourense Plains : (NW of Spain) = Morfogénesis De
Cadernos Lab. Xeolóxico de Laxe ISSN: 0213-4497 Coruña. 2003. Vol. 28, pp. 263-283 Morphogenesis of the Ourense Plains (NW of Spain) Morfogénesis de las superficies de Orense (NW de España) YEPES TEMIÑO J.1 &. VIDAL ROMANÍ J. R.1 ABSTRACT We present a geomorphological analysis of Ourense Province (NW Spain) characterized by: a general narrowing of the fluvial network, highlands with smooth reliefs partially eroded and lowlands with residual reliefs, several extensive plains of erosion frequently limited by fractures -among which Tertiary grabens are inserted-, some “Hollow Surface”-type morphology, absence of sedimentary deposits outside the grabens, and a generalized outcrop of the Hercynian Massif substratum. Traditionally, this “piano’s key- board morphology” has been interpreted as expression of block tectonics in tensile regi- men; instead we suggest the existence of: an isostatic upheaval simultaneous to a sequen- ce of tectonic pulses of compressive regimen with activity in favour of transcurrent faults, a General Surface (R600), several plains that present a “Hollow Surface”-type mor- phology (R1600 R1400 R1000), a generalized alteration that correspond to a same process of decomposition associated to fluctuating conditions of redox equilibrium, a erosional terraces related principaly to the palaeo-fluvial nets; moreover, we propose the existen- ce of two morphoestructural lineament: the first one represented by the Fault of Vila Real (NE-SW) -a ramification of the “Basal Pyrenean Overthrust”-, that would have been active at an early moment of the tectonic sequence with a left transcurrent fault, secondly the lineament represented by the Fault of Maceda (NNW-SSE) that would be related to the “Fault System NW-SE” and would have produced a right transcurrent fault during a late tectonic pulse.

  • PDF Camino Sanabrés (The Sanabria Way)
El Camino Camino Sanabrés (The Sanabria Way) The Zamora town of Granja de Moreruela is the beginning of the Sanabria Way. Here, the Cistercian order founded, a few kilometers from a Roman road, the monastery of Santa María de Moreruela. It is the oldest Cistercian monastery in Spain and was originally known as Santiago de Moruela, evidence of the Jacobean past of this Route. At this point, the pilgrim can reach Santiago by the original Vía de la Plata, continuing to Benavente and Astorga, connecting with the French Way. Or take the Zamorano section through Granja de Moreruela, Tábara, Santa Marta de Tera, Mombuey and Puebla de Sanabria, as a natural continuation of the Vía de la Plata. Two variants to enter Galicia The entrance to Galicia has two alternatives: the shortest and most popular is the one through A Gudiña and Laza. The other alternative of this Camino de Santiago enters the province of Ourense through Verín . It is a somewhat longer variant, but highly recommended for cyclists, since it runs largely on asphalt roads. This route connects with the internal variant of the Portuguese Way in the Portuguese town of Chaves. The Camino Sanabrés visits the beautiful city of Ourense, circulates through the province of Pontevedra and enters A Coruña until it reaches the Galician capital. The Way allows you to discover some Romanesque jewels, vineyard landscapes and green paths where tranquility and nature preside over the days. The pilgrims who make the Camino Sanabrés have a good network of hostels and accommodations, especially in the A Gudiña and Laza variant.

Grape growing and winemaking activities exist in the area since ancient times. Traditionally, every family owns a piece of vineyard that was planted by their ancestors and cared with love by their family members through the years. This is what we inherited and the basis we will build on. Wines from Sierra de la Culebra is a quality brand created to distinguish the wines we produce in our region and its unique character. In the following pages you will learn who we are, where we come from and what makes us unique. Wines from Sierra de la Culebra brand is owned by the four wineries currently operating in the area (Bodega Aliste, Bodegas Ramayal, Bodega Castro Mendi and Cepas de la Culebra). We all produce crafted quality wines that reflect the place where the grapes grow while respecting our environment and our inherited winemaking tradition. Furthermore, to guarantee the quality of our wines, every bottle produced in the area that matches the usage of the brand regulations we have set, has a distinctive label in the back of the bottle, with its own unique identification number. Wines from Sierra de la Culebra brand is just the beginning of our journey as we intend to pursue a quality figure accredited by the European Union for the wines produced in our region.
