ISSUE 2, WINTER 1995, ARTIFACTS ON THE MOON

• ANGELIC ALTERNATIVES by N. Thomas Miller From Frankenstein to Dracula, the media's treatment of occult material seems to remain the almost exclusive purview of horror movies and the like. A promotional mailing for a set of books, Mysteries of Mind, Space & Time, received just the other day, seems typical. Offered is an opportunity to probe the strange, incredible and terrifying mysteries of the unknown. Well, I am relieved to report at least one example to the contrary. In October, NBC's Angels II, Beyond the Light, presented evidence that humanity is subjected to other forces than UFOs, aliens, and departed spirits, that, in fact, guardian angels and ascended masters are looking after us, and are rather compassionately concerned for mankind and the future of this planet.

• ARTIFACTS IN SPACE , by J. Douglas Kenyon Since discovery in 1981, a gigantic and enigmatic face gazing upward from the Cydonia region of Mars has held out the tantalizing promise of scientific proof that intelligent life in the universe is not unique to Earth. The Mars Mission, as a group terms itself, has produced more than enough evidence to argue plausibly that the objects of Cydonia are not only the remains of an ancient civilization, but one possessed of a science and technology well beyond our own.

• HEAVY WATERGATE by David Lewis The cold fusion story began in 1989 at the University of Utah, when two electro-chemists, Professors Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann, told the world they had fused atoms at room temperature, reproducing the power of the sun. Ever since, they have been the subject of criticism and ridicule from hot fusionists and theoretical physicists who say cold fusion is impossible.

• NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE: THE UNTOLD STORY by Cynthia Gage Imagine being able to smell colors, see music and hear numbers....to look at the air and know the coming weather, or to know the health of people, animals and plants in an area just by sifting a handful of dirt through your fingers. These gifts were natural to author PMH Atwater, who thought all children could feel and sense things as she did. And, after dying three times in 1977, she became a near-death survivor. Since being hit with what she calls a heavenly sledgehammer nearly twenty years ago, she has worked seven days a week researching and writing about the near-death phenomenon.

• SECRETS OF VIBRANT HEALTH by Ann Louise Gittleman It's really not an easy task to be a healthy, balanced individual in the Nervous 1990s. Taking good care of ourselves can become a full time job. As more and more of us juggle a career, bring up children and try to participate in community activities, sometimes our own health suffers. As we approach the turn of the millennium, let's take a look at some simple and maybe startling health secrets everybody needs to know to defy aging and ward off degenerative disease.

• THE CROP CYPHER ENIGMA by Len Kasten Why there has been no official Anglo-American governmental interest in a truly astounding story unfolding for fifteen years in the south of England.

• TOP 10 PROPHECIES FOR THE YEAR 2000 by Joseph Robert Jochmans Will the year 2000 be a threshold of fear or a doorway of hope? As we approach the end of the current century and millennium, we feel the steady rising of a certain world-wide anxiety. The year 2000, which for older generations once symbolized some far-off future, is suddenly only five years away.

• Astrology: STARS OF U.S. DESTINY by Kathie Garcia We mark July 4, 1776, the signing date of the Declaration of Independence, as America's Conceptional Birthchart. Dane Rudhyar chose 5:12 pm local time as the time of the signing, a subject of much debate among astrologers. Elizabeth Clare Prophet matches Rudhyar's estimate, moving the time up one minute to 5:13 pm. I agree with Rudhyar and Prophet and am basing my analysis on the 5:13 pm time.

• Book Review: JOURNEYS TO OTHER WORLDS by Dr. Joseph Ray Our focus is a diverse selection of books spanning five millennia, and including the realm across the river. The oldest of the books, The Epic of Gilgamesh, is still available although no longer in clay tablets! The others are relatively recent, and our first one, The Monuments of Mars: a City on the Edge of Forever, has just been reprinted in a second edition.

• Music: SWEET SOUNDS by Robert J. Resetar Alas, the holiday season is once again behind us, and as musical performers everywhere are gearing up for their next big recordings, for Christmas of '95, the rest of us are still trying desperately to forget the lilting strains of the Beastie Boys: Holiday Classics and other such fare that graced our ears in music stores throughout December. If you're still suffering from any post-holiday-syndrome, here are a few selections that might be just what the doctor ordered.

------ISSUE 3, SPRING 1995, MAGICAL JOURNEYS

• A WALK ON "THE OTHER SIDE" by Cynthia Gage Last October, NBC took a daring plunge into the New Age. In addition to airing Angels II, Beyond the Light, they launched a one-hour daytime show called The Other Side. The program is a response to what producers perceive to be the powerful American fascination with extraordinary events that science cannot always explain. It explores everything from alternative medicine, dreams, self-hypnosis, and near-death experiences to angelic visitations and alien abductions. It's fast-paced, fascinating and sometimes phenomenal. Invited guests, subject experts and the studio audience participate in a lively discussion on the featured topic, assisted by the mediation of host Dr. Will Miller, a professed skeptic who deliberately plays the devil's advocate, then leaves conclusions to the individual viewer.

• ATLANTIS OF YOUR DREAMS by N. Thomas Miller Imagine: The vast city of Poseidon, the capital of Ancient Atlantis, stretched out before us. The time is approximately 30,000 years ago, and Atlantis is at the apex of its achievement as a civilization. We see commerce, large anti-gravity vessels called valixes ascending and descending, many sailing ships of all kinds, small anti-gravity personal craft and land vehicles, as well as crowds of pedestrians. Today, such scenes in a feature film or for television are not only possible technically and artistically, but in the hands of the right directing, producing, and effects team, can be much less expensive than they once were, just a few years ago.

• HOLLYWOOD AND THE STAR GODS OF ANCIENT EGYPT by Len Kasten Coming events are said to cast their shadows. Some sci-fi moviemakers seem to have a talent for tapping into that level of the mass subconscious in which new concepts are in the formative stages, and bringing them into public consciousness. Typically, their films are instantly very popular, often unexpectedly, because the audiences, to the extent to which they also are in touch with the subconscious, respond with interest and enthusiasm without consciously understanding why. Nothing is as inexorable as an idea whose time has come, and because film is such a powerful medium, nothing can precipitate it as quickly as a well-made movie that opens wide. It is the Hundreth Monkey principle accelerated to warp speed! Consequently these films usually become watershed events with permanent social effects.

• IS A LOW-FAT DIET ALWAYS GOOD FOR YOU? by Ann Louise Gittleman I know it's almost sacrilegious to criticize carbohydrates, but in light of so many negative effects from their imbalance and overuse, the time has come to take the carbohydrate craze to task

• SECRETS OF FORGOTTEN WORLDS: A CONVERSATION WITH PETER TOMPKINS by J. Douglas Kenyon For the many who date their personal discovery of the wisdom of the ancients and the power of unseen forces with the late 1960s and early '70s, two books enjoyed nearly unequaled influence. The Secret Life of Plants and Secrets of the Great Pyramid were both runaway best sellers, which, if nothing else, put the orthodox establishment to considerable trouble defending itself. While today, notions such as the preference of plants for good music and the miraculous measurements of the Great Pyramid may have become somewhat passe, 25 years ago they caused quite a stir, and in the process earned not a little notoriety for author Peter Tompkins. For one who had dared to challenge so flagrantly the titans of the scientific establishment, Tompkins achieved not only celebrity, but also, for a time, an unprecedented measure of credibility. • TOP 10 MAGICAL JOURNEYS YOU CAN TAKE by David Hatcher Childress If anyone manages to live real life like Indiana Jones it is David Hatcher Childress. A veteran of many expeditions to some of the most interesting destinations on Earth, Childress has made adventure a career. The author of many lengthy books on lost cities and civilizations, he has learned the hidden byways of world travel up close and personal. Who better to provide Atlantis Rising's guide to magical summer travel trips you can actually take without mounting a full scale safari

• THE SEARCH FOR MEANING IN THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS by Len Kasten In 1947, near the banks of the Dead Sea, Bedouin tribesmen found seven crumbling scrolls hidden in caves since the time of Christ. By the end of 1956, archaeologists had discovered 800 scrolls in the desolate Judaean wilderness near the ruins of Khirbet Qumran. Yet the question of who wrote the scrolls is now a matter of fierce international debate. A mysterious veil has settled over the Dead Sea, over the scrolls and their meaning, keeping them hidden still. In the meantime, tantalizing clues link them with sources found as far away as Tibet. Some of the most important texts, one-fourth of the entire corpus, have only recently seen the light of day. Dominican priests, said to be fearful of their implications, kept the scrolls secret for decades while publicly denying their relevance. And today, the scrolls remain one of the most controversial and puzzling finds of our time.

• Astrology: THE CYCLES OF PLUTO by Kathie Garcia The impact of Pluto, the slowest moving of the known planets in our solar system, is intense and far- reaching. Pluto's energies bring about changes on a worldwide scale, reshaping history and ushering in major social, political and geological changes and transformations. Plutonian changes may be regenerative or degenerative, but whether positive or negative are generally extreme and long-lasting. Astrologers Sakoian and Acker note, Pluto in the signs always produces a permanent change. The change is in relation to the sign that Pluto occupies. It goes without saying that when Pluto changes signs, it's time to take note. On Jan. 18, Pluto began a 15-year transit in Sagittarius. On April 22, Pluto dipped back once more into Scorpio for a final phase lasting until November 11, 1995. From then on, Pluto will continue its transits through this fiery sign until the year 2010. What does it mean for us all?

ISSUE 4, SUMMER 1995, IMPOSSIBLE INVENTIONS

• DEBUNKING THE DEBUNKERS by David Lewis If you believe in the paranormal, or life after death, you better watch out. The cops might show up at your door, the PSI COPS, members of the Committee for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal, or CSICOP. These skeptics spend a lot of time and energy debunking anything scientifically off-beat or extra-sensory in nature. They work tirelessly, trying to enforce the unenforceable law that says no phenomena can exist beyond the notion of a purely physically based reality. Phonetically, their acronym suits them, PSI being the nickname scientists use for extra-sensory phenomena; hence, PSI COPS. And they have their hands full these days, what with all those best-sellers about near-death experiences, angels and lost civilizations. Crime has really gotten out of control. • FINGERPRINTING THE GODS by J. Douglas Kenyon When respected British author Graham Hancock announced to the world in 1992 that he had actually tracked the legendary Ark of the Covenant of Old Testament fame to a modern-day resting place in Ethiopia, serious eyebrows everywhere twitched upward. Nevertheless, objective readers of his monumental volume The Sign and the Seal, on both sides of the Atlantic, soon realized that Hancock's case, incredible though it seemed, was not to be easily dismissed. Apparently though, the success of The Sign and the Seal has only whetted the writer's appetite for establishment chagrin. In his latest book Hancock is out for even bigger game. In fact, Fingerprints of the Gods seeks nothing less than to overthrow the cherished doctrine taught in classrooms worldwide, that civilization was born roughly 5,000 years ago. Hancock presents breakthrough evidence of a forgotten epoch in human history which preceded by thousands of years the presently acknowledged cradles of civilization in Egypt, Mesopotamia and the Far East. Moreover, he argues, this same lost culture was not only highly advanced but technologically proficient and was destroyed more than 12,000 years ago by the global cataclysm which brought the ice age to its sudden and dramatic conclusion. • MINING FOR HEALTH by Richard Conant Few people have even heard of, much less seen, Boulder, Mont., a bucolic little town halfway between Helena and Butte. But some have, mostly folks suffering from autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Each year thousands of them journey to Boulder from all points of the compass. They come, not as tourists, but as prospectors. Not for gold, like the pioneers of bygone days, however. These seekers are prospecting for another kind of treasure, long-sought freedom from illness and pain. But like fortune hunters of the gold rush years, these pilgrims are tapping into the earth itself to fulfill their quest. Boulder is the sole location in North America of radon health mines, old mines, uranium and other precious ores, where, for a nominal fee, you can descend underground and immerse yourself in radon gas. Yes, that's right, radon, one of the prominent figures on the EPA's public health threat list. • PLUGGED IN WITH DANNION BRINKLEY by Cynthia Gage Dannion Brinkley may be the most electric person on the planet. It's not just that he's been struck by lightning twice. Or that he's been clinically dead twice and had one of the most dynamic near-death experiences ever recorded. It's his livewire personality, spellbinding story and shocking statements. What happens is brilliantly captured in Brinkley's best-selling book, Saved by the Light. He writes of travelling to a Crystal City, entering shimmering, gothic-like cathedrals, watching a panoramic life review, meeting thirteen Beings of Light and being given graphic visions of the future, as well as detailed instructions on relaxation centers which he was to build when he returned to his body, now crisscrossed with blue lines marking the path the lightning had taken as it surged from his head to the floor. • THE HALL OF RECORDS : WILL THE LEGENDARY EGYPTIAN TREASURE TROVE BE REDISCOVERED IN 1999? by Dr. Joseph Robert Jochmans For untold centuries both historical and esoteric sources have passed down stories of a forgotten time-capsule of Ancient Wisdom, far greater in importance than the golden treasures of Tutankhamen. The various accounts speak of chambers located beneath the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx at Giza, filled with a technological legacy left by lost advanced civilizations older than Egypt itself. Along with the stories are also preserved a number of prophecies foretelling who, when and how the vanished time-capsule will be opened. • TOP 10 IMPOSSIBLE INVENTIONS THAT WORK by Jeane Manning When Leonardo da Vinci sketched out an impossible invention, fifteenth-century scholars probably put him down. Forget it, Leon. If machines could fly, we'd know about it. Throughout history, experts tell innovators that their inventions are impossible. Thank god innnovators never listen… Early Rays: News Bulletins Features

• Atlantis Dimension • Astrology: TUNING TO THE GREAT CYCLE by Kathie Garcia Astrology could well be called the science of cycles. Against the backdrop of greater and lesser cycles of time, a man lives out his life. Similarly, civilizations and races evolve in accordance with the ebb and flow of time. Any age marking the ending of cycles, and simultaneously the commencement of new cycles, is of interest, especially when these cycles have stretched out for thousands of years. Such are the times we live in. In particular, we are coming to the close of a precessional month, the so-called Age of Pisces, and entering the portals of the much-heralded Age of Aquarius. Moreover, we are experiencing the ending of a Platonic or Precessional Year, a complete cycle of precession through the twelve signs of the zodiac entailing approximately 25,800 years (exact figures differ slightly among astrologers). • Book Reviews: EARS TO HEAR by Dr. Joseph Ray From autism to morphogenic fields… • Music: SOUNDS TO SAVOR by Robert J. Resetar Here's an eclectic assortment of goodies to keep your ears, and those of most of your friends, properly exercised.

------ISSUE 5, FALL 1995, SECRET HISTORY

• MIRACLES HAPPEN by Cynthia Gage Fillan, an Irishman who lived during the eighth century, had an incurable love for writing which often drew him well into the depths of the night. When he entered the monastery of Wexford, he was informed by superiors that the use of candles was not permitted after certain evening hours. Determined to continue his writing, he unbridled himself of this restriction by way of a miracle. When the curfew hour approached he simply held up his left hand, which shone like a candle, and illuminated sufficient area to continue his writing. Hence, writes Rodney Charles, author of Every Day A Miracle Happens, Fillan wrote with his right hand, by the light given from his left. • SECRET HISTORY by David Lewis Commenting on his latest book, The Return of Merlin, Deepak Chopra observed recently that history exists in the eye of the beholder. Chopra spoke of the History Of the Soul versus the textbook variety. And while the author did not bother to cite examples, it's safe to say that historical accuracy has often taken a back seat to political correctness, the old Soviet Union comes to mind. In the days of Galileo, it was the Church that defined reality. She even rearranged the heavens, declaring that the sun revolves around the earth not the other way around. When heresy ran afoul of her, she obliterated not only the infidels but their written testimony, as was the case with the Cathars in southern France. Seven centuries later, accounts of the Cathars found in encyclopedias reflect the Church's geocentricism, as if all revolves around Rome. Yet the last time we checked, the earth revolves around the sun, which in turn spins in the arm of a spiral galaxy reeling into infinity. And the truth behind medieval heresies may have a similar trajectory, The Never- Ending Quest of mystics, Templars, and Cathars for Absolute Knowledge. That quest, relegated by skeptics to quixotic fancy, has little to do with textbook history, yet everything to with secret history, the history of the soul. • THE FIELDS OF HEALING by Valerie Free In the last two centuries Western medicine has become the application of one science, namely biochemistry. Its basic tenet has been that life is chemical. Thus, it has seemed logical to assume that, whatever the ills of our chemical bodies, they could be cured best by the right chemical antidote. The philosophical outcome of chemical medicine's success has been belief in The Technological Fix. Drugs have become the treatment for all ailments. Although we are learning that the more chemicals we put into our body the more we disturb the chemistry of our bodies, the medical community stays on the same merry-go-round. In addition, techniques that do not fit such chemical concepts, even if they seem to work, have been abandoned or condemned. • THE MYSTERIOUS ORIGINS OF MAN (aired as scheduled, video tape is available) The producers of NBC's Emmy Award-winning The Mystery of the Sphinx are completing another prime time NBC special called The Mysterious Origins of Man. The one-hour special will be hosted by Mr. Charlton Heston and is scheduled for airing sometime this fall. The program will blend science and entertainment to question if what we are being taught about man's origins and development is supported by the evidence. Viewers will meet authors Richard Thompson and Michael Cremo, whose book Forbidden Archaeology documents many cases of anomalous evidence like bones of modern man found in rock strata dated to over 50 million years old. • THE ORION CONNECTION by Len Kasten According to author-astronomer Robert Bauval, the answer to the ancient secret of Giza is in the Stars. When Robert Bauval came to the realization, one starry night in the Arabian desert, that the three pyramids of Giza were arranged on the ground to replicate the arrangement of the three stars in Orion's belt, ancient astronaut theorization was the farthest thing from his mind. Je tiens l'affaire, he shouted excitedly when he understood the connection, deliberately mimicking Champollion's exclamation when he had deciphered the Rosetta Stone. At the time of his discovery, Bauval was a construction engineer working in the Middle East. In his subsequent book, The Orion Mystery, co-authored with Adrian Gilbert, Bauval demonstrated convincingly that the ancient Egyptians were sophisticated astronomers, and that their religious beliefs and practices were far more profound and esoteric than previously believed. • TOP 10 OUT-OF-PLACE ARTIFACTS (O.O.P.s) by Joseph Robert Jochmans, Lit. D. Walk into any modern museum, or open any history textbook, and the picture of the past presented is one in which humanity started from primitive beginnings, and steadily progressed upward in the development of culture and science. Most of the artifacts preserved in archaeological and geological records have been neatly arranged to fit this accepted linear view of our past. Yet many other tantalizing bits and pieces unearthed offer a very different story of what really happened. Called out-of-place artifacts, they don't fit the established pattern of prehistory, pointing back instead to the existence of advanced civilizations before any of the known ancient cultures came into being. Though such discoveries with their inherent sophistication are well- documented, most historians would like to sweep these disturbing anomalies under the proverbial rug. But the rug of true history is getting very lumpy, and hard to step across without tripping over such obvious contradictions to the conservative picture of antiquity. • VISITORS FROM BEYOND by J. Douglas Kenyon From a Human Potentials conference in Washington, D.C. to a Whole Life Exposition in Seattle, from campus bull sessions in Berkeley to cocktail party discussions in Boston, no talk of the hot alternative explorations into the mysterious wellsprings of civilization gets very far these days without at least a passing reference to the work of Zecharia Sitchin. And there are no signs that interest in the author of the five volumes of The Earth Chronicles, and the forthcoming Divine Encounters from Avon Books, is cooling. Early Rays: News Bulletins Features

• Atlantis Dimension • Astrology: CHARTING THE ECLIPSE FACTOR by Kathie Garcia Eclipse. The word engenders awe. Somehow, the darkening of the Sun seems unnatural. Since ancient times, astronomer-astrologers have sought to predict and understand eclipse phenomena. • Book Review: PATHS TO KNOWLEDGE by Dr. Joseph Ray, Ph.D. Despite apparent differences and varied origins, this issue's books are surprisingly similar. If one has an open mind, I say if, they will provide meaningful pondering and food for thought. They corroborate each other, in terms of knowledge conveyed or attitude taken. • Music: SOARING WITH SOUND by Robert J. Resetar It's a quiet September night as I gather my stack of C.D. to review. No one else around, just me and the C.D. player. Where will the music take me tonight? I never know until I'm there. By morning I will have been around the world, went back in time and soared through the heavens. And perhaps I will have discovered that I am a Celtic dreamer or a closet gypsy ...and that despite my sober disguises I'm still a hopeful romantic at heart.

ISSUE 6, WINTER 1996, COSMIC COLLISIONS

• 'COLD FUSION' BREAKTHROUGH , by Jeane Manning Did a clean-energy era just slip into our lives, unnoticed by mainstream news cameras? Its arrival may coincide with the recent success of an unpretentious cold fusion device, reported to put out a thousand times more energy than it takes to run it, at the world's largest trade show for electric power producers…and more. • COSMIC COLLISIONS , by Joseph Jochmans Over a century ago Ignatius Donnelly summed up our precarious existence: We are but vitalized specks filled with a fraction of God's delegated intelligence, crawling over an egg-shell filled with fire, whirling madly through infinite space, a target for the bombs of the universe. By bombs Donnelly meant the untold number of asteroids and comets that fill the heavens around us which on perhaps not a few occasions have smashed into Earth itself, and may do so again. • EXPOSING A SCIENTIFIC COVERUP , by J. Douglas Kenyon While the public may believe that all the real evidence supports the mainstream theory of evolution with its familiar timetable for human development (i.e., Homo Sapiens of the modern type going back to only about 100,000 years) Cremo and Thompson demonstrate that, to the contrary, a virtual mountain of evidence produced by reputable scientists applying standards just as exacting, if not more so, than the establishment has been not only ignored but, in many cases, actually suppressed. • EVOLUTION VS. CREATION , by David Lewis Both side of this traditional debate may be 'out to lunch' • HEALING WITH LIGHT , by Valerie Free We are on the brink of major breakthroughs in the understanding of the science of human energy fields. The significance of this work is comparable to the discovery of penicillin and the deciphering of the DNA code. It will forever change the way we look at life and health. Back in the mid-eighties, Dr. Robert Becker, a leading researcher in the field and author of The Body Electric, suggested that a knowledge of life s electrical dimension would yield fundamental insights into pain healing growth, consciousness and the nature of life itself. Now at the close of this century, leading-edge scientists and physicians around the world are exploring the effects of numerous types of energy fields on the healing of illness with incredible success. • THE RISKS OF PROPHECY : A Review of Michael Scallion's Earth Changes Predictions; by Len Kasten Prophecy is a risky business. Psychics and astrologers know that they are dealing only with the most likely of several possibilities and have therefore learned to couch their prognostications in suitably ambiguous terms. But for the average psychic reader, there isn't really much at stake. A miscalculation might mean the loss of a client, but there are always others, and the reputation factor is nil because nobody expects perfection. But for a public prophet such as Gordon-Michael Scallion, the stakes are much higher indeed. • TOP 10 ASTROLOGICAL EVENTS FOR THE DAWNING MILLENNIUM , by Kathie Garcia A launch pad year, 1996 is the beginning of a major planetary shift of long duration destined to precipitate a chain of remarkable changes that will characterize the rest of the century, bring in the next and alter our lives dramatically. What follows is a description of ten planetary phenomenon, some of shorter and others of longer duration, but which together mark the signs of an age of extraordinary changes. Many of these cycles are rare and so we have looked to history to guide us as to their potential significance for our times. Early Rays: News Bulletins Features

• Atlantis Dimension • Book Review: Queen of the Sun, by Cynthia Gage Human history, E.J. Michael tells me, has an inner, hidden stream that can only be explained by the existence of a higher level of being, class of consciousness, that I call Adept, Master or Initiate. And I think these beings are part of a grand scheme which they follow according to the ages and different astrological influences. We're talking about ancient mystery school sites, discussing whether there might not be a common thread in the building of the Pyramids, Machu Picchu, Tiahuanaco, Stonehenge, and other astounding edificial feats. • Music

AN ENGINEER IN EGYPT by Christopher Dunn

Within the past three years, artifacts established as icons of ancient Egyptian study have developed a new aura. There are suggestions of controversy, cover-ups and conspiracy to squelch or ignore data that promises to shatter conventional academic thinking regarding prehistoric society. As of this writing, a powerful movement is intent on restoring to the world a heritage that has been partly destroyed and undeniably misunderstood. This movement consists of specialists in various fields who, in the face of fierce opposition from Egyptologists, are cooperating with each other to affect changes in our beliefs of prehistory.

FROM APOLLO TO ZERO POINT by J. DOUGLAS KENYON

Growing up on the family ranch near Roswell, N.M. in the 1940s provided Apollo 14 astronaut and paranormal researcher-in-the-making Edgar Mitchell with more than a few clues to his destiny. On the way to school, for example, he would walk past the house of reclusive rocket scientist Robert Goddard whose obscure experiments in the 1920s had inspired the German ballistic missiles of World War II and paved the way for Mitchell’s own lunar mission, yet a quarter century away. There were also aircraft of the wood and cloth variety available for flying —an opportunity not lost on the young test pilot-to-be (his first solo flight came at 14). As a youth, Mitchell watched and wondered at the mysterious glows which filled the night skies over nearby White Sands as an atomic age was being hatched in secrecy. And later another—perhaps stranger—episode, the purported crash of a flying saucer just a few miles away, would also leave intriguing clues to be pondered in a future, still—a half century later—in the process of unfolding.

HOW OLD ARE THE PYRAMIDS? by JOSEPH JOCHMANS

The controversy raised by John Anthony West and Robert Schoch concerning the true age of the Great Sphinx is now beginning to overcast the other famous monuments which share space on the Giza plateau—namely, the three pyramids that were supposedly built by Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkhare in the Fourth Dynasty. Were these Pyramids constructed only 4,300 years ago, or—like the Sphinx—is there evidence they could be far older, dating instead to perhaps 12,000 years ago?

THE PHYSICIST AS MYSTIC by DAVID LEWIS

A child staring at the clear night sky beholds the wonder of the universe and its mystery. How, after all, to such a simple mind, to any mind, can the starry expanse go on and on, never ending. For if it were to end, we imagine, there would always be something beyond. And then what about the beginning, and before that, and so on? The two apparent extremes describe what the French philosopher and mathematician, Blaise Pascal, called les deux infinis, the two infinities.

WEST, HANCOCK & BAUVAL CUT OUT OF NEW SPHINX RESEARCH by WILLIAM P. EIGLES

In April, Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities granted a one-year renewable license to a team of U.S. researchers to carry out surveys at Giza and around the Sphinx using seismographs and ground-penetrating radar. Their ultimate purpose is to locate the "Hall of Records," the chamber described by American mystic Edgar Cayce beginning in 1935 as containing the historical records and wisdom of the fabled lost civilization of Atlantis. Cayce suggested that this records chamber would be found under the Sphinx sometime before the end of the 20th century, most likely between 1996 and 1998. Early Rays: News Bulletins Features

• Astrology: THE MAYAN CALENDAR MYSTERY by Kathie Garcia How is it that we have lived in a kind of veiled ignorance for millennia, our books speaking of a history which is hardly ancient, but rather a drop in the bucket of time, accepting simplistic stories of creation and evolution and isolated from other life within the galaxy, barely learning with crude ships how to cross our own seas some few hundreds of years ago? And yet, here and there we have been able to pick up the pieces of lost civilizations whose people somehow seemed to be more in touch than ourselves with origins and endings and with the cyclical nature of time. Such a people were the Maya, whose astoundingly precise calendrical achievements brought them to calculate actual dates going as far back as 90 and 300 million years and into the future soon to be our present! • Book Review: GENIUS: RECOGNIZED & OTHERWISE by Dr. Joseph Ray • Music Review: SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW by Robert J. Resetar Everyone seems to be jumping on the Celtic bandwagon these days and well they should. Business is booming. Teenagers haven’t heard anything so cutting-edge since the rockers unplugged and Tony Bennett started re- crooning on MTV. The only thing that could top that would be a new music video by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo De Silos with Sting. In this issue we’ll focus on traditional folk music that has once again become in vogue. Whether from Ireland, Japan or the Wild West, the folksongs and musical creations based on the styles of yesteryear are back.

ARCHEOCRYPTOGRAPHY According to Carl Munck By Laura Lee

There are tens of thousands of pyramids and earthen mounds scattered all over the world. They remain a mystery. Archaeocryptographer Carl Munck (a retired USAF colonel who has earned a considerable reputation in the ancient mysteries underground) says we lack suitable answers to these enigmatic monuments because we have been asking the wrong questions.

CAVE MYSTERIES OF THE STONE AGE By Joseph Jochmans

The distant period from 23,000 to 12,000 years ago, during what is today called the Paleolithic Era, saw the development of modern humanity's immediate ancestors, the Cro-Magnons, into a sophisticated prehistoric culture. This was also the Age of the Cavern Temple, epitomized in the magnificent wall paintings represented by the cave art found at such famous sites as Altimira and Lascaux in western Europe. It is believed by many modern prehistorians that these Stone Age cave paintings were more than for art's sake, that they had a very deep meaning and a purpose behind their production. One researcher who has perhaps done more than anyone else to prove this point is French art expert Andre Leroi-Gourhan.

Energy Set Free By Jeane Manning

From ATLANTIS to the SPHINX By J. Douglas Kenyon For the first time since his massive volume The Occult (1971) Colin Wilson has another bestseller, at least in England. And, with any luck, come spring, that achievement will be repeated here when the fledgling New York publishing house Fromm International unveils the U.S. edition of Wilson's From Atlantis to the Sphinx (though not necessarily with that title).

MICROBES or MORE? By David Lewis

While Hollywood released films this summer about alien invasions, NASA held a real-life press conference dealing with life on Mars. Featuring such high priests of science as Professor Richard Zare, Chairman of the National Science Foundation, and Wes Huntress, NASA's chief scientist, a panel armed with a Martian rock the size of a small potato promoted the idea that microbial life may have existed on Mars 3.6 billion years ago. And while public reaction barely rose above a murmur, the ebullient NASA administrator, Daniel Goldin, characterized the theory as amazing. The upcoming press conference, we were told, would be exciting and controversial. It was, of course, neither to the man on the street inundated with space operas and cable TV documentaries about flying saucers, complete with evidence that would hold up in a court of law. Considering the ongoing media swamp, the ceaseless stories about alien abductions, the Roswell cover up, and so on, in the eyes of the general public NASA's announcement amounted to small potatoes indeed.

Moving Beyond Prophecies & Predictions By Cynthia Gage

In surfing circles, says author Moira Timms, there's a term that relates to the towering megawaves unique to certain beaches in Hawaii and Australia. The Impact Zone represents the instant in time and space when the wave crests at its climax. It's the space between synapses, the freeze-frame between neurons firing when body wisdom, impeccable reflexes, and raw instinct take over. Timms says we're all surfers, fully engaged in an accelerated flood of change, riding the big wave together, heading for the zone'. We are challenged by a rite of passage into the twenty-first century as our world approaches an inevitable cyclical event within the natural evolutionary scheme.

Of GODDESSES and RUNES By P.M.H. Atwater

Once upon a time, actually about twenty thousand to twenty-three thousand years ago, our forebears, the Cro-Magnon people, were an intelligent lot, sleek of body and immensely creative. Having invented the needle, they wore tailored clothes complete with decorated tunics and leggings, parkas, collared shirts with cuffed sleeves, and boots and moccasins. They built most of their dwellings facing south to take advantage of solar heat, fashioned ingenious cobblestone floors that were sturdy and dry, preserved food year-round in cold caves, ate diets so healthy we moderns would be wise to emulate them, crafted clever tools (such as a sewing needle complete with hole for thread), separated living spaces for greater efficiency, and eventually took to the water in boats for better fishing.

The Scars of Scientific Misconception By Dr. Joseph Ray

"Misconceptions about science are rampant. This is so, says Dr. Henry H. Bauer, according to tests of scientific literacy, even among science writers and scientists. Indeed, in 1988, when the United States scientific literacy rate was 5.6%, only 12.1% had any understanding of the scientific thinking process. For critics of the scientific establishment, many of whom read and write in Atlantis Rising, scientific illiteracy can be a significant impediment to being taken seriously: it behooves us all, then, to assure our scientific literacy. Bauer's book, Scientific Literacy and the Myth of the Scientific Method, published by the University of Illinois Press, will help educate us and is worthwhile reading for all thinking people who find science in some way deficient. ANCIENT STAR PICTURES By Laura Lee

B2: the American UFO? By Len Kasten

Everything Tony Gonsalves does, he does meticulously. His attention to painstaking detail was evident when he restored a classic 1965 Mustang, somehow tracking down every small original part. This effort resulted in a cover story in Mustang Monthly Magazine. Then there was the 30- foot sailboat that he built in his backyard. The variety of skills necessary to accomplish this feat included fiberglass molding, carpentry, marine architecture, metalworking, and sailmaking, to name just a few. It should be understood that Tony doesn't require a lot of time to acquire his new skills. Nor does he work unusually hard. He works smart, and he works fast. He brought these same capabilities, and the same intensity of purpose, to focus on the Stealth-B2 project.

Could the Ancients Fly? By David Childress

Following the Path of the Wise Men By Cynthia Gage

You might call Paul William Roberts a true Renaissance man, but he would be quick to correct you, pointing out that the Renaissance, known for spiritual rejuvenation, was actually a very acquisitive period. And acquiring the things of this world is decidedly not what he's after. Nevertheless, Roberts is a man of multiple talents, many of which are evidenced in his recently published book, In Search of the Birth of Jesus, The Real Journey of the Magi. A scholar and historian (though he prefers to be called a storyteller), Roberts shares his detailed knowledge on everything from ancient Egypt to architecture, astrology, archaeology and the Dead Sea Scrolls, while taking us with him on a fascinating journey that retraces the steps of the Magi, or Wise Men, on their famous journey to the birthplace of Christ. It's provocative from page one, reading this book may change forever the way you look at the world and its religions. Roberts claims that a profound secret about the origins of Christianity has been kept for nearly two thousand years; a secret which, when unveiled by the publication of the Qumran Dead Sea Scrolls, he says, will send the church of Rome crumbling into conflicted, autonomous factions much like the independent states of the former Soviet Union.

HI-TECH AGENDA FOR THE MOUND BUILDERS? By Christopher Dunn

Under the discerning gaze of intelligent architects, hordes of primitive people scraped at the fertile soil of what is now known as Ohio. Around 200 B.C., millions of tons of soil and rock were transported from river bottoms and distant fields to be formed into remarkably precise geometric arrangements. Why they were built and by whose invention has been the subject of considerable discussion for almost two centuries.

Keys to the Conspiracy Consparacy By David Lewis

First they raise the cost of living, you hear people say, then they raise your electric rates. Ever wonder who this they is people talk about when they are looking for someone to blame for life's problems. More poignantly, and tragically, someone might say, First they killed JFK, and then his brother, and then Martin Luther King, taking for granted that a hidden hand, always spoken of in the plural, lurks behind everything that goes wrong in life, from the mundane to the historical. Some point to a shadowy group of conspirators dedicated to subverting life as we know it. PARANORMAL PARATROOPER By J. Douglas Kenyon

According to the public information operatives of the CIA and the Pentagon, any official attempt to develop and deploy so-called psychic forces for military purposes was, at best, experimental, short-lived, and of no demonstrable value. Nevertheless, when the story broke in December of 1995 that, whatever the limitations, the Pentagon had resorted AT ALL to clairvoyant methods', produced a spasm of disbelief in the world of paranormal debunkers. After all, hadn't it been shown to the satisfaction of any rational person that such stuff belongs entirely in the dark realm of witch doctors, mumbo jumbo and superstition, or what the late Carl Sagan might have called The Demon Haunted World? It certainly does not belong, they would argue, in the arena of objective discourse. How could the hard-headed U.S. Defense establishment, with access to the best that academic science can produce, take such notions seriously, even for an instant?

The Crystal Skull Enigma By Charles C. Pelton

In the realm of ancient artifacts there are few antiquities that are as thought provoking as the carved quartz crystal skulls. Very little is known about these ancient wonders of the world, largely due to the fact that so few of them exist which are accessible to the researcher. In the last few years, interest has risen intensely in these works of antiquity. For many years, when the subject of the crystal skulls was discussed, few people were aware of the fact that the Mitchell- Hedges skull was not the only crystal skull known to man. It may have been the most perfectly carved, even viewed by more people throughout the world than any other skull, but, certainly not the only skull. In fact, there are many skulls in various locations around the world which range in size from a few pounds, or softball sized, to over forty pounds.

The Search for Kinnaman's Entrance By Stephen Mehler

I first heard his name in early 1979. Soon thereafter, I acquired a tape of a lecture he gave on the Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt in the 1950s. In this lecture he claimed to have discovered one of the greatest finds, not only of this century, but perhaps in the history of archaeology. Yet, he is virtually unknown today in the fields of Egyptology and Archaeology and after 16 years of researching his life and attempting to verify his claims, he remains almost as much a mystery and fascination to me today as he was in 1979.

His name was John Ora Kinnaman and his life was so full of exploration and dedication to scientific discovery that his name deserves to rank with the other great individuals in the annals of archaeology such as Ivan T. Sanderson and Colonel Percy Fawcett. My research team and myself have been able to uncover many documents and much material on the life and work of J.O. Kinnaman, in order to present an intriguing account of a very interesting man.

• Charting The Coming Changes By J. Douglas Kenyon All change, some have argued, occurs through dramatic episode. The laws of change are the laws of drama. It's the way plants reach the flowering stage and caterpillars become butterflies, the way of metamorphosis, of redemption, and it was the heart of ancient temple practice which has come down to us as theater. From Sophocles to Shakespeare, from Goethe to Arthur Miller, the great playwrights demonstrated the laws which liberate the soul from darkness. Some understood and were transformed. • China's Secret Pyramids By Laura Lee Pyramids and pyramidal structures are a worldwide phenomena, found in Egypt, Peru, Central America, America's Mississippi Valley, France, Polynesia. The Middle Ages with old men in some forgotten attic, laboring over bubbling flasks filled with some unknown fluid; or in front of an oven, trying to turn molten lead into gold. These are the images of the alchemist that time, mythology, and prejudicial history have handed down to us. It is true, that many of the early alchemists were the forerunners of the modern sciences. Physics and chemistry are indebted to these early puffers as they are disparagingly called, for from their hours of sweat and travail, a host of modern advances came: porcelain, alcohol distillation, acids, salts, and a variety of metallic compounds, are the results of early alchemical experiments. But if alchemy wasn't just a foolish waste of time in the search for a means to turn base metals into gold, what was it? • The Carbon 14 Mystery By Christopher Dunn In issue 9 of Atlantis Rising, some doubts were raised regarding the accuracy of the C14 dating method used on the shroud of Turin. • Cataclysm! 9500 BC By David Lewis In recent prehistory, possibly as late as 9,500 B.C. (the date ascribed by Plato to the sinking of Atlantis), a profoundly traumatic phenomenon plagued the earth. This event, the result of a distant cosmic explosion, caused severe volcanic eruptions, massive earthquakes, catastrophic flooding, and the upheaval of the world's mountain ranges. The earth's axis may have tilted, or its crust been violently displaced. Continents rose and sank. Mass extinctions of plants and animals followed, and a period of eerie global darkness. • Edgar Cayce On Atlantis By Len Kasten Skeptics, archaeologists, geologists, and anthropologists may rant and rave, but the myth of Atlantis endures. In every generation, someone emerges to champion the cause and to embroider the story. None of this disputation, though, might be happening if it hadn't been for one very critical and unfortunate event. The burning of the Great Library of Alexandria was a stunning blow to the advancement of knowledge. If any single event could be said to have ushered in the Dark Ages, it was the destruction of the Great Library, and the decimation of Alexandria as a world repository of learning and enlightenment. At its height, around 200 A.D., the library is said to have contained about 700,000 scrolls and codices. • From The Mummy's Curse To Threatening Plagues By Cynthia Gage Dr. Harry Rudolph Alsleben has had a magnificent obsession for at least 38 of his 64 years. Trained in medical science, theology and Egyptology, he has conducted extensive investigations into healing and revitalization techniques used by ancient Sumerian, Egyptian and Hebrew cultures. A physician, osteopath and Surgeon, he has contributed more than 30 diagnostic and therapeutic programs to the field of medicine, and has spent the last 25 years creating the specialty of preventive medicine. He has had six clinics in five states and three hospitals in foreign countries, and has treated more than 65,000 patients for chronic degenerative diseases such as cancer, hardening of the arteries, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, candida and advanced aging. His book, How to Survive The New Health Catastrophes, is now a classic in the field and has not needed revisions or corrections since he wrote it in 1973. With his Molecular Energy Research Team, he is preparing a preventive and corrective therapy for the treatment of cancer and AIDS. The initial objective, says Alsleben, was to establish methods of destroying microbes and viruses in the human body through the mechanism of molecular resonance. Such a therapy is based on enhancement of the immune system and is a radical departure from the conventional viewpoint. What we're essentially doing, says Alsleben, is treating AIDS by not treating AIDS. • Megalithic England By J. Douglas kenyon Among those who have argued in their writings that there once was a great and shining, albeit forgotten to history, fountainhead of civilization whose even now continue to haunt us, few have been more eloquent than John Michell. The author of over a score of works on ancient mysteries, sacred geometry, UFOs, unexplained phenomena and the like, Michell is familiar to American readers primarily through his visionary classic The View Over Atlantis (originally published by Thames and Hudson in Great Britain in 1969 and a few years later in the U.S. by Ballantine). The Earth Spirit, Michell's profusely illustrated essays on the ways, shrines and mysteries of the subtle animating forces of the planet and their near universal celebration since the dawn of time was published in the U.S. in '89. A revised and rewritten version of his first book, re-titled The New View Over Atlantis, was published here in 1995. • Mufon Launches Study Of The UFO Abduction Experience By Marcia Jedd The woman describes floating through her bedroom wall, as if levitating into a beam of blue light. She recollects only portions of her experience later while under hypnosis: being brought onto a small ship by short gray beings. One of the intruders appears to direct the team of abductors. Once led onto the craft, a taller being leads an examination where intricate procedures are performed. Nearby, she senses a female being who uses gestures to comfort her. She sees no other humans present. • The Code Of The Ancients By Carl Munck An essay on archaeocryptography - the science of finding the obvious correlations made by the ancients • The Coral Castle Mystery By Christopher Dunn While the cutting techniques of the ancient pyramid builders have been a continuing topic for debate, they have not received the same attention and controversy as the proposed methods that were used to lift and transport huge cyclopean blocks of stone. While Egyptologists and orthodox believers in primitive methods argue that the huge blocks were moved and put into place using only man power, experts in moving heavy weights using modern cranes throw doubt on the subject. • The Illusions Of Perception By P.M.H. Atwater, Lh.D. What determines real or unreal? Lawrence LeShan, in his classic Alternate Realities: The Search for the Full Human Being, writes: A reality is real to you when you act in terms of it. Anything else is just talk. It is a valid reality when, using it, you can accomplish the goals acceptable to it. Common sense rules every reality and ultimately decides on its validity. LeShan's statement reflects a discovery made by a team of scientists who were experimenting with babies. They found that the only time babies were startled was when something happened to them that defied common sense. This discovery established that a certain level of perceptual prejudice is part of our genetic predisposition, a predisposition reinforced by our various faculties and our brain. We depend on life being what we think it is, and we accept the bias of that perception. Throughout day-to-day existence, we recognize only what we are prepared in advance to see. • The Threshold Of Change By Laura Lee The dance between old and new, rigid and fluid, expansion and contraction is a fascinating one to watch, especially as it relates to the marketplace of ideas. And I have a ringside seat in the host's chair of a radio talk show devoted to the exploration of new and cutting edge research. • Tom Bearden Fights For Revolutionary Science By William P. Eigles Every revolution has its leading theorists, individuals who attempt to construct a logical, coherent formulation of new principles and concepts to rationalize and explain the occurrence of radical, paradigm-upsetting events or developments. Even if not there at the beginning of such seminal milestones, such individuals are quickly spawned in the aftermath, acting as compelling champions for the activists who are making the history. In the case of the revolution beginning to emerge more publicly in the field of alternative energy sources and technology, retired Army lieutenant colonel Thomas Bearden may soon be recognized as one of a small cadre of scientists and engineers who were just such credible boosters, convinced of and actively supportive of alternate energy realities early on. The second, held at the Pasadena Double Tree Hotel, was an eight-hour conference with evidence alleging that NASA has systematically censored and suppressed Pathfinder imagery to hide unambiguous evidence of a purported advanced, long-extinct Martian civilization. Additional charges were also made and evidence presented that NASA has been pursuing a hidden agenda on Mars, one allegedly involving weapons and the occult!

SOUND & PICTURES FROM THE OTHER SIDE by William P. Eigles

The issue of whether human consciousness survives beyond physical death and if so, in what way, has intrigued our species since time immemorial. Nor has the matter been one of mere academic or theological interest. Rather, human beings have long and diligently sought to communicate with those who have made the transition from earthly life to whatever realm follows death in order to gain, among other things, meaningful solace and psychological closure, worldly advice, or spiritual wisdom. THE DOGU ENIGMA: PRIMITIVE ARTIFACT OR SIX-THOUSAND-YEAR-OLD SPACE SUIT? by Vaughn Greene

When I read of Kenneth Arnold's sighting the world's first modern UFOs on June 24, 1947, I was immediately interested. A few weeks after I wrote Arnold, two friendly F.B.I. agents came for a visit. This only whetted my appetite, and over the years I contacted some of the early flying saucer buffs, including Prof. Adamski, George Hunt Williamson, Kurt Von Zeissig, Yukio Matsumura, Zecharia Sitchin, Meade Layne and others.

THE GREAT PYRAMID TUNNEL MYSTERY by Randy Koppang

Reconciling the perceptions of orthodox tradition with those of an increasingly solidified revisionist history may one day be seen as a challenge of our times. Reconciling the perceptions of orthodox tradition with those of an increasingly solidified revisionist history may one day be seen as a challenge of our times. Today, however as a fair witness to pursuits of unbiased research I find no consistent climate of constructive engagement for integrating out-of-place data with prevailing concepts. Specifically, new revelations concerning the mysteries at Giza have recently evoked sufficient controversy to suggest that Galileo's telescope-analogy is no longer adequate. Simple resistance to change is merely one factor. And in this context, the following is to update reports of developments at Giza that appeared in Atlantis Rising Nos. 11 and 12.

 Astrology By Kathie Garcia: The Star of Dreams Watch the news and observe your dreams and the general condition of your psyche as Neptune, ruler of dreams, leaves Capricorn and enters Aquarius on January 30, 1998. Often you can get an accurate reading of the significance of even long astrological cycles by registering their impact around the time they first appear.

 Book Reviews By Dr. Joseph Ray: GIFT BOOKS THAT ENLIGHTEN The holiday season has yet to arrive and there's no rush. However, this Atlantis Rising precedes it and the next one doesn't. Many of the books reviewed here go out of print and may be periodically or indefinitely unavailable. Other eminently reviewable titles never get reviewed, despite my appreciation of them. And some books, by their nature, make wonderful gifts. Herewith, then, a selection of still available fine books, all especially readable and definitely worth giving, accompanied by brief comments.

 Early Rays: News Bulletins

 Recording Reviews By Robert Resetar: To Your Dreams In this issue we feature a selection of videos to help you achieve and maintain optimal health. When there seems to be an almost endless flow of new health products and techniques vying for our attention, where do we begin? Dr. Andrew Weil, Deepak Chopra and Bill Sardi offer some of the best common sense approaches to healthy living that I've heard. One thing they all agree on is that healing needs to happen on all levels for an individual. Without attention to our emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being, treating the physical symptoms alone will give temporary relief at best.

AMERICA'S ANCIENT WRITERS by Donald Cyr

Explorers, traders, even settlers, left their words inscribed on canyon walls, on artifacts, and on trade goods found in the Americas many centuries before Columbus sailed the ocean blue. For many strange reasons, the very idea of alphabets carved on such objects and in America is generally considered to be without scientific value. Most examples are considered to be forgeries or fakes and are conveniently discounted by those who guide our thinking. BACK TO BIMINI by William Donato

An ambitious new research project, a multi-pronged investigation into the many archeological mysteries of Bimini, is currently in the planning stages. Funded by Law of One Research Corporation, a Massachusetts-based foundation dedicated to following up on the work of Edgar Cayce, the project is a continuation of Project: Alta, begun in 1993 by The Atlantis Organization. The new investigations will focus on high-priority sites as well as seeking out new ones. The emphasis in 1993 was to seek out new sites by means of aerial reconnaissance and side-scan sonar, as well as to investigate the zoomorphic (animal-shaped) effigy mound designated as the Cobra Mound, which was discovered on an earlier trip.

BLUEPRINT FROM ATLANTIS by Rand Flem-Ath

In November of 1993 I received a fax from John Anthony West that started me on a four-year quest. The article that slipped through the fax machine that day had been written by an Egyptian-born construction engineer by the name of Robert Bauval. Little did I suspect that Bauval would soon become known for his revolutionary theory that the pyramids of Egypt were a mirror image of the constellation of Orion (see The Orion Mystery). However, in the article I read that day Robert had taken his idea even further. He revealed that not only the pyramids but also that most famous of all sculptures, the Sphinx, was oriented to the constellation of Orion as it appeared in 10,500 B.C. (see The Message of the Sphinx).

MUSIC IN THE FIELDS by Freddy Silva

For over twenty years the normally quaint and quiet English countryside has slowly been overrun by a phenomenon more akin to It Came From Outer Space than to cream tea. Fields long accustomed to entertaining wheat, barley, or canola are, with increasing frequency, playing host to magnificent pictograms in the form of crop circles: areas of flattened crop as large as 100,000 square feet where plants are bent an inch above soil level and gently laid down in geometrically-precise pictograms, with no visible signs of damage or human entry.

PSYCHIC DISCOVERIES SINCE THE COLD WAR by Len Kasten

In June of 1968 Sheila Ostrander, a Canadian, and Lynn Schroeder, an American, were invited to attend an international conference on ESP in Moscow. The invitation was from one of the most fervent missionaries of Soviet psi research, Edward Naumov, then 36. A few years earlier, when overt interest in such subjects could easily result in a long holiday in Siberia, such a conference would have been impossible. Then suddenly, in the mid-sixties, the doors of prohibition in Russia, under the Troika rulership, clanged open. Ostrander and Schroeder, encouraged but still doubting the turn of events, started writing to Soviet scientists and researchers. For three years, the letters and packages describing Soviet psi research poured in, culminating in Naumov's invitation to come and see for yourself. RICHARD NOONE by J. Douglas Kenyon

When in 1982 Astraea, a small and struggling Atlanta publishing house, introduced a gigantic, profusely illustrated hardback by previously unknown author Richard W. Noone, not too many noticed. At that time the threat posed by enormous polar ice buildups coupled with factors such as global warming and unfortunate astronomical alignments had been considered only by a very few. Fewer still took seriously the work of unsung scientists such as Charles Hapgood, Augustus LePlongeon, Immanuel Vilikovsky, and many others cited. Nevertheless the new volume slowly began to generate respectable sales and in 1986 Crown Publishing of New York took notice and added 5/5/2000 Ice: The Ultimate Disaster, to its list. In the intervening years the book has never once been out of print, with total sales running into six figures. And, in fact, as its following has steadily grown, it has become something of an underground classic.

TAKING FEELINGS TO THE MOLECULAR LEVEL by Cynthia Gage

Science, asserts Dr. Candace B. Pert, is feminine. It's a conclusion she has reached after spending 25 years of rigorous, exacting research at the lab bench, forging her way to the top of a profession long dominated by men and the male perspective. Now, as Research Professor in the Department of Biophysics and Physiology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, she is considered one of the most pre-eminent neuroscientists in the world.

THE SEARCH FOR KINNAMAN'S ENTRANCE CONTINUES... by Stephen Mehler

(In issue #10, Stephen Mehler reported on the search for a secret entrance to the Great Pyramid. The late Dr. R.O. Kinnaman claimed that, in the company of Sir William Flinders Petrie, he found just such an entrance. In an attempt to authenticate the claim Mehler went to Egypt in September and filed this report.

• Astrology By Kathie Garcia: GALACTIC ASTROLOGY Like two lovers who had been uncomfortably matched, endlessly engaging in argument and power plays, Science and Spirit finally became separated. The Industrial Revolution sealed the deal, and for a time it looked like this divorce was final. But their tryst has begun anew, for they are, in essence, inseparable partners. Science explains in facts and findings, in reason and objective thought what Spirit stirs through faith and intuition, through inner gnosis and through divine revelation. Spirit gives esoteric meaning to the discoveries of Science. Together they describe our relationsip to the Deity and to Cosmos and to one another, and give our existence meaning. Science, however, is still quick to mock as fanciful the musings of Spirit, while Spirit is reluctant to reunite with a lover who seems cold, self-absorbed, and decidedly unromantic! Nevertheless, the time has come for Science and Spirit to be reconciled. The wedding takes place when Neptune and Uranus join forces in Aquarius, on January 30. Their union will cause a social revolution in what is prophesied to be an age of enlightenment and unprecedented scientific discovery. • Book Review By William P. Eigles: ANCIENT WISDOM MAKES IT TO CD-ROM The exploration of the sites and locales of ancient civilizations is an adventure that tantalizes many an individual fascinated by the writings of such modern researchers as Zecharia Sitchin, Graham Hancock, John Anthony West, and David Hatcher Childress, among others. Alas, the time and expense involved in mounting an expedition of one's own, or even participating in one conducted by a university, archaeological research institute, or nonprofit foundation, can be daunting. The surviving remnants of humankind's earliest settlements, markers, and technological achievements are widely scattered around the globe, and access can be arduous. And, although specialized travel companies have arisen to respond to the growing New Age niche market of seekers eager to glimpse and touch historic and prehistoric artifacts, the obstacles remain. • Early Rays : News Bulletins

• Recording Reviews By Robert Resetar: SWING & SHUI The ancient Chinese art of feng shui (pronounced fung shway) has become quite popular these days. Feng shui is based on the principles of balance in one's living environment for the purpose of bringing about health, happiness, success, and well-being. Sounds like hocus-pocus? Try it. You may be surprised. On the surface you might conclude that much of its effectiveness is caused simply by knowing your goals and focusing your attention upon them. But it goes much deeper than that. The ancients taught that the principles of yin and yang and the five elements influence the very qi (chi) or life essence in all living things. At its most basic level, this is a commonsense approach to health and wholeness.

• BREAKING THROUGH TO THE FUTURE Veteran Remote Viewer Joe McMoneagle Turns His Gaze on the Futureby William P. EiglesAs the third Millennium of the Common Era fast approaches, the urge to know what the future holds for our world, and know it accurately, seems to be noticeably quickening. From the works of such celebrated prophets of yesteryear as Nostradamus, Mother Shipton, and St. Malachy to the publications of modern-day seers such as Edgar Cayce and Gordon Michael Scallion and astrologers Noel Tyl and Edwin Meece, popular interest in esoteric prophecy is burgeoning as an uncertain and increasingly jittery public faces the looming Great Turning Point. • CHARIOTS OF THE NEW MILLENIUM Are the Dreams of Nicola Tesla and His Followers Approaching Realityby Bruce R. MelandWith an oil glut worldwide, and resulting low gas prices here in the US, major oil companies are merging and laying off thousands of employees to remain financially healthy (in other words, to maintain high executive salaries and stock options). As a result, it is very difficult to get the American public interested in alternate fuel automobiles, specifically, cleaner, quieter and more energy efficient electric, hybrid electric, or fuel cell vehicles. • BERMUDA TRIANGLE STARGATE? Do Newly Mapped Magnetic Anomalies Point to the Starsby Dr. Michael PreisingerA German historian/scuba diver has recorded the exact location and value of deviations in magnetic fields off the Bahamas coast. Scientists to whom he has shown the figures do not dismiss the possibility that they are caused by micro-wormholes. His researches have also led him to wonder whether the American AUTEC naval base on Andros Island is not-perhaps on account of these same wormholes- an "Underwater Area 51 of the Caribbean." And he has reached some new conclusions concerning Atlantis and the Bahamas. HAPGOOD REVISITED New Research Vindicates the Work of Charles Hapgoodby James BowlesThe scholarly study of geology, as opposed to mystical speculation, dates from the 18th century. Early geologists looked at the evidence before them that included highly folded and faulted rock layers, igneous flows, intrusions, and the remains of species that no longer walked the earth. They concluded that the earth's history had been marked by a continuing series of catastrophic events. This view came to be referred to as Catastrophism.
