Road Race Route Map & Profile
Race leaves Maghera towards Tobermore where it starts the anti-clockwise circuit around Tobermore > Desertmartin > Magherafelt > Tobermore. Each race will complete 5 laps of the circuit. On the last lap the race will leave Tobermore via Lisnamuck and finish atop Coolnasillagh mountain.

Rules & Regulations
ARTICLE 1. ORGANISATION The National Championships listed below are organised by Carn Wheelers Cycling Club and promoted under the Cycling Ireland technical rules and regulations. The events will be held on 9th & 10th September 2017. All participants in this event are responsible for their own safety & wellbeing, riders and drivers should understand the roads are not closed and racing should take place on the correct side of the road, marshals will be there to indicate the direction of the race. The following races are included in the event: National Road Race Championships Senior A3 Men Junior Men National Time Trial Championships Masters M40 Masters M50 Masters M60 Junior Men
ARTICLE 2. TYPE OF EVENT The above events are entered on the Cycling Ireland Calendar. All races are subject to a minimum entry to be classified as a Championship event.
ARTICLE 3. PARTICIPATION The events are open to licence holders with an “IRL” UCI code issued by Cycling Ireland or another UCI affiliated National Federation.
Time Trials - Saturday 9th September 2017 Junior Men (born in years 1999 or 2000) M40s (open to A1, A2, A3, A4 & LC licence holders born in years 1977 to 1968 inclusive with “Masters” on their licence) M50s (open to A1, A2, A3, A4 & LC licence holders born in years 1967 to 1958 inclusive with “Masters” on their licence) M60s (open to A1, A2, A3, A4 & LC licence holders born before 1957 with “Masters” on their licence)

sign on at the Race HQ and at the finish line for the first 6 riders over the line as well as 3 random finishers, these will be selected at the finish line. A minimum of three riders are required for a team to be eligible to compete for a set of team medals. A minimum of three teams entered are required for a set of team medals to be awarded. Teams must be registered with Cycling Ireland to qualify for team medals. A team prize shall be awarded to the team with the lowest sum of the riders’ placings of its 3 best placed riders who are members of that club/team. In the event of a tie the winners will be the team with the first three riders home and if this cannot be established the decider will be the team with the highest placed finisher. To be classified as a finisher in each Road Race, riders must complete the course within 8% of the winner’s time Should any Road Race event be oversubscribed, preference will be given to the top 20 riders on the published Cycling Ireland rider rankings on 4th September 2017. If riders are tied on points or an event is still oversubscribed then preference will be given in order of registration.
As per Cycling Ireland technical rules and regulations (T3.1g), grading points will be awarded for the top 10 finishers in each road race as follows: 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3.
ARTICLE 4. RACE HQ & START LOCATIONS The race headquarters for the weekend will be Walsh’s Hotel, Main Street, Maghera, BT46 5BN. The local hospitals are Causeway Hospital: 4 Newbridge Road, Coleraine, BT52 1HS and Antrim Area Hospital: 45 Bush Road, Antrim, Bt41 2RL The local PSNI Station is in Magherafelt: 47 Meeting Street, Magherafelt, BT45 6BW
The start location of the Time Trial will be on the Kilrea Road at Grillagh Bridge (approximately 2 miles from Maghera on the Coleraine Road). Sign on will be in the car park of St. Patrick’s College, Coleraine Road, Maghera.
All Road Races on Sunday will assemble and start at the old Maghera High School on the Tobermore Road, Maghera, riders should make their own way to the start area (there is no neutralised procession from the Race HQ), the start location is approximately 600 metres from the Race HQ. The managers meeting with the Commissaires Panel will take place at the Race HQ.
ARTICLE 5. STARTING ORDER FOR NATIONAL MASTERS & JUNIOR TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS The starting order for National Championship Time Trials will be based on the results of the previous year’s event with the fastest 10 finishers being allocated the last 10 starting positions, at 2 minutes starting intervals, all other competitors will start at 1

ARTICLE 6. RACE RADIO Race information for the weekend will be broadcast on 453.5625mhz.
ARTICLE 7. NEUTRAL SERVICE
The Race Organisation will supply Neutral Service as follows:
Time Trial 1x Neutral Service team available at the start area
Road Race – Senior A3 Race 2x Neutral Service vehicles
Road Race – Junior Men 2x Neutral Service vehicles
All teams / riders should supply the Neutral Service vehicles with set of wheels. Wheels supplied should be in good working order. Wheels supplied for Juniors are subject to a 7.93m maximum rollout.
If for any reason all the Neutral Service vehicles are being utilised, the next support vehicle in the cavalcade may be asked to provide neutral support until the neutral vehicle is back in position.
ARTICLE 8 SUPPORT VEHICLES Support vehicles are permitted based on one vehicle per team and restricted to a maximum height of 1.66metres. In addition to the driver who must hold a valid licence issued by Cycling Ireland or other National Federation. Vehicles must carry at least 1 competent person for which to provide service.
Senior A3 Road Race
Note: As the Senior A3 defending Champion from 2016 is not eligible to complete in the 2017 Senior A3 Road Race the draw order of service vehicles will be as follows:

The draw for order of service vehicles (based on one vehicle per team) will take place at the Manager's Meeting at 10:30am in Walsh’s Hotel, Maghera.
The support cars deviation location is approximately 3 kilometres from the finish line. Support cars should continue straight at the cross roads to the Glenshane Pass and take left, at the top of the Glenshane Pass (before the Ponderosa Restaurant) the road on the left will take you to the finish line. Note: there is very limited parking around the finish, managers should park their vehicles on the road side in a manner that does not obstruct the vehicles passing by.
