First circular for International Conference on Large Igneous Provinces

As exceptional intraplate igneous events throughout the Earth’s history, the Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) are characterized by huge volumes of magma intruded and erupted within a short period. They have significant effects on the differentiation and dynamic evolution of the Earth, crustal growth, global environmental changes, mass extinction, as well as transportation and accumulation of metal elements. Therefore LIPs have attracted attention of geologists, geophysicists and paleontologists for many years. The International Conference on Large Igneous Provinces, Mantle Plumes and Metallogeny in the Earth’s History was first organized by Russian scientists in 2007 in Novosibirsk. It has been held in Novosibirsk (2009), Irkutsk (2011), Hanoi (2013), Irkutsk (2015) in Russia, and became an important biennial conference for the community of LIPs. To keep the tradition and make it a special event for international scientists, the International Conference on Large Igneous Provinces is to be held for the first time in , , between August 26-31 in 2017. This conference aims to bring international researchers together, shear their knowledge from different disciplines, stimulate discussion and find potential collaboration fields about the LIPs. The conference will focus on the following topics: 1. Evolution of LIPs through time 2. Deep mantle geodynamics and geophysical observations 3. Ore-magmatic systems of LIPs 4. Effects of LIPs on the environment, climate and mass extinction

Schedule:  Aug. 25 (Friday): Registration in Yidong International Hotel next to Chengdu University of Technology;  Aug. 26 (Saturday) – Aug. 27 (Sunday): In-door meeting at Chengdu University of Technology (Oral presentations and posters);  Aug. 28 (Monday) – Aug. 31 (Thursday): field excursion to the Panzhihua V-Ti-Fe deposits, which was related with the Emeishan LIP in the Permian. The bus will return to Chengdu in the afternoon of Aug. 31.

Important notes: For oversea scientists, please fill your passport information in the registration form because we need to apply for permission for foreigners to visit the Panzhihua mining areas, and provide your ID information in the invitation letters for visa application. The invitation letters will be sent by email before May 16 to give you enough time to apply visa to China. If you need a hard copy of an invitation letter, please indicate it in the registration form. Because Chengdu is a popular tourist destination in summer, please book your flight tickets as soon as possible.
