Wasabi for Consumers & Small Businesses Low-cost cloud file storage and data protection Tech Note: Wasabi for Consumer & Small Businesses Executive Overview Wasabi is fundamentally transforming cloud storage with hot storage—the corporate world’s most affordable cloud storage solution. While primarily used by businesses, many tech-savvy consumers use Wasabi hot storage in conjunction with third-party file management and data protection applications to backup PCs and Macs, and to share photos, videos and documents. This tech brief provides a short overview of Wasabi and explains some of the differences between Wasabi hot storage and popular personal cloud storage products like Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and Amazon Drive, as well as personal backup products like Carbonite, Mozy, CrashPlan and Backblaze. It will help you determine if Wasabi hot storage is right for you. Introducing Wasabi Hot Storage Wasabi’s mission is to make cloud storage a simple, open-standard commodity and utility, just like electricity. Wasabi hot storage is cost-effective, fast and reliable cloud storage—for any purpose. Wasabi is significantly less expensive and significantly faster than other corporate cloud storage services like Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure. In fact, Wasabi hot storage is so inexpensive many individuals and small businesses use it as well. You can use Wasabi to protect your data and to store files in the cloud—conveniently and reliably. Back up your PC or Mac, or share photos, videos or documents—quickly and securely. With Wasabi, you can take full advantage of the same fast and dependable cloud storage service that large corporations rely on, and depending on your use, Wasabi could cost less than a personal cloud storage service like Dropbox or other consumer-focused storage services. Choose from a Wide Range of Storage Management and Backup Tools Wasabi is a little bit different than most consumer cloud storage services. Wasabi is not intended to be an all-in-one personal storage and backup solution with a dedicated, drag-and-drop desktop or mobile client like Dropbox or Google Drive. At Wasabi, we believe in choice. Rather than providing a proprietary client, we designed Wasabi to work with a wide variety of third-party file management solutions and backup tools. Our partnership approach is consistent with other corporate cloud storage solutions like Amazon S3. With Wasabi you can use the application you like best to protect the data on your computer or to move files in and out of the cloud. Wasabi’s Performance and Certification Team (PACT) has certified dozens of free and commercial tools. And we’re constantly expanding our partner ecosystem. ©2017 Wasabi Technologies Inc. 2 Tech Note: Wasabi for Consumer & Small Businesses Understanding Wasabi Hot Storage Pricing Since Wasabi is used primarily by larger businesses, it is also priced a little bit differently than most consumer services. Most personal cloud storage products are priced by capacity. You pay a fixed fee for a full terabyte (or more) of storage every month whether you use it or not. For example, Dropbox and Google Drive charge $9.99 per month to store up to 1 TB of data, while Microsoft charges $6.99 per month to store up to 1 TB of data on OneDrive. With Wasabi you only pay for the storage you actually use. Wasabi hot storage costs just $.0039/GB/month (or $3.99 per TB per month). In addition, as with other corporate cloud storage services, we charge a separate fee ($.04/GB) every time you retrieve data from the cloud.1 Depending on how much data you store in the cloud, and how frequently you download it, Wasabi could end up costing less than a personal cloud storage service like Dropbox. For example, say you store 128 GB 2 of data in the cloud, and you retrieve all that data once every month. Your cost with Dropbox is $9.99/month or about $120/year if billed monthly. Your cost with Wasabi is $5.62/month 3 or about $67/ year. Use the pricing calculator at wasabi.com/pricing to compare Wasabi with other options. Using Wasabi Hot Storage for Data Protection You can use Wasabi with third-party applications to back up your home or small-business computer—quickly, securely and reliably. In some cases Wasabi is less expensive than personal cloud backup services like Carbonite, Mozy, CrashPlan or Backblaze, which cost $60 a year or more. Wasabi works with a variety of client back-up tools including CloudBerry and Arq. For a complete list of Wasabi-compatible backup apps see www.wasabi.com/help/interop-results. Summary Many consumers and small businesses use Wasabi to store files and protect their data in the cloud. You should carefully consider the differences between Wasabi hot storage and personal cloud storage and backup services to determine if Wasabi makes sense for you. Wasabi is priced differently than consumer products. And unlike most consumer storage services that come with dedicated desktop and mobile clients, Wasabi is designed to be used with third-party file management and backup applications.
