The enclosed Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) contains the Agency's evaluation of the data base of this chemical, its conclusions of the potential human health and environmental risks of the current product uses, and its decisions and conditions under which these uses and products will be eligible for reregistration. The RED includes the data and labeling requirements for products for reregistration. It may also include requirements for additional data (generic) on the active ingredient to confirm the risk assessments. To assist you with a proper response, read the enclosed document entitled "Summary of Instructions for Responding to the RED." This summary also refers to other enclosed documents which include further instructions. You must follow all instructions and submit complete and timely responses. The first set of required responses is due 90 days from the receipt of this letter. The second set of required responses is due 8 months from the date of receipt of this letter. Complete and timely responses will avoid the Agency taking the enforcement action of suspension against your products. Incentives for cutting S.J. emissions proposed By Audrey Cooper, Record Staff Writer Published Thursday, April 24, 2003 FRESNO -- Business and community leaders at a first-ever clean-air summit Wednesday unveiled a proposed plan to cut smog by offering tax incentives and government funds to industries or groups that cut emissions. The Operation Clean Air summit drew more than 400 people from around the San Joaquin Valley, which is by some standards the country's most polluted area. That pollution has been linked to climbing asthma rates, premature deaths and cancer. Operation Clean Air is a public-private organization interested in finding voluntary measures to cut the Valley's pollution. It was the brainchild of Fresno-area politicians and includes representatives of the nine-county Valley air basin. Officials said the proposed plan was only a draft and would go through several changes over the next few months. But the popular centerpiece of the plan is a proposed "Air Quality Improvement Zone," which could work similar to municipal economic-improvement zones that use various financial incentives to encourage urban redevelopment. -

Williams, Professor Entomology and Plant Pathology Cockroaches are the number one pest in homes or other buildings They have successfully adapted to living wherever people live and are common on ships, in warehouses, restaurants, stores, apartments, offices, hotels and one-family dwellings. In fact, cockroaches are often the first occupant in a new building. Cockroaches are frequently carried into buildings in bags or boxes. They can live outside in water meters, garbage dumps or sewage systems and then migrate into buildings. Cockroaches hide in sheltered, dark places during the day. Because they avoid light, they may not be detected in a home for months. Most homes have many cracks or crevices where they hide. At night, cockroaches leave their hiding places to seek out food and water. If a light is turned on, they will run rapidly for shelter, disappearing through openings into their hiding places. Cockroaches can carry bacteria, fungi and filth on their legs and bodies. Their habit of hiding in empty spaces and moving under cover of darkness carrying bacteria is a health menace. They may pollute food or cooking utensils with this filth. Description Cockroaches have a broad, flattened shape and six long legs. They are dark drown, reddish- brown, light brown or black. The adults of most species have wings. The male Oriental cockroach has wings which cover only part of the back. The female's wings are reduced to small pads. The young cockroach is called a nymph. It looks like the adult, except it is smaller and has no wings. -

The Household Toxic Tour: Garden Shed Pesticides Pesticides are not only poisonous to insects but are also poisonous to humans and animals. Overseas studies have shown that young children, have an increased risk of getting leukaemia if they live in a home where pesticides are often used, either in the home or garden. Childhood brain cancer has also been linked to the use of some pesticides. Pesticides can affect us if we breathe them in or if we come into skin contact with them. Pesticides can contain active ingredients including naphthalene (suspected cancer causing); phosphorus (irritates throat and lungs); heavy metals (such as mercury and lead affect brain development and causes lowered IQ deficiencies in children); lindane (can cause dizziness, tremors and convulsions); chlorocyclohexanes (permanent kidney damage, anaemia); and organophosphates (linked to neuromuscular blockage, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, profuse sweating, nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhoea, tightness in the chest, and muscle twitching). Common pesticides used in gardens (for example, weed killers and aphid killers) include many harmful chemicals such chemicals as chlorpyrifos and methoxychlor. These chemicals can affect the brain and nerve development in children and can harm pets. Lawn sprays can cause an increase in cancer in children. Children growing up in gardens which are treated with pesticides have a greater risk of developing tumours called sarconomas. Most pesticides persist in the environment for a long time and can continue to have harmful health effects long after they have been applied. BAYGON products, used to control cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes, and lawn insects, have been linked to child leukaemia in a couple of studies. -

MD 2204 SO Bldg. 22 Rm. 4071 Kennesaw, GA 30144 USA Abstract Using social contract theory as a foundation I examined the ways in which four multinational corporations use disclosures of corporate social responsibility to present themselves as good corporate citizens. Several factors influence a corporation’s use of CSR: size of the corporation, public visibility, personal commitment of high ranking executives, location of manufacturing operations, and types of stakeholders. There is a significant difference in the responsibilities and obligations Proctor & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, and Colgate-Palmolive ascribe to themselves as corporate citizens compared to those of SC Johnson. I attribute this difference to one of stakeholder accountability, specifically public shareholders. -
