Special Events Eggs ‘N Beggin’ PET-ACULAR Event The City of Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, Pet Food Gone Wild, and various other rescue groups have come together for a PET-ACULAR event! Have your pet’s picture taken with the Easter Bunny and don’t forget to bring their Easter basket for the Easter Egg Hunt. Dress up your pet in their Easter best and participate in the pet parade and costume contest.

Also, come by and check out the adopt-a-thon! There will be many animals from all over the state looking for a best friend to go home with. Pet Food Gone Wild will be accepting donations of dry food, wet food, and cat litter.

Mopar Fest Car Show The Mopar Muscle Club of NM and Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department present the 25th Annual Mopar Fest Car Show. There will be lots of custom, classic, muscle, and restored vehicles to see, as well as great food vendors. Trophies will be awarded in 20 classes including classic, best restored muscle, LX platform, trucks, special interest, and more. Many special awards will be given including long distance, sponsors choice, and best of show. Event T-shirts will also be available. Enter $5 for a chance to win a PJ 18’ dovetail car trailer. Pooch Plunge, Adopt-a-thon, & Food Drive The City of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation and Pet Food Gone Wild have come together again this year to mark the final days of summer.

Bring your dog(s) out to Haynes Pool for one last swim before the outdoor pools close for the season. 16 Parks, Recreation and Community Services Special Events Movies in the Park The Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation team invites you to join us for our Movies in the Park Series. Throughout the summer, Cabezon Park will be hosting a Friday night movie for the whole family to enjoy. The best part: it’s free!

Movie Dates: May 29: Recess School’s Out The school year is finally over, and T.J. Detweiler is looking forward to a fun-filled summer. Boredom quickly sets in until T.J. uncovers a scheme to do away with summer vacation! Former principal Dr. Benedict, who tried to eliminate recess from the school day, now plans to use a laser beam to alter the weather and create permanent winter. It sure would be tough to go to school year-round, so T.J. calls in all his friends for help.

June 12: The Lion King (1994) This Disney animated feature follows the adventures of the young lion Simba, the heir of his father, Mufasa. Simba’s uncle, Scar, plots to usurp Mufasa’s throne by luring father and son into a stampede of wildebeests. But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon and Pumbaa.

June 26: Lady and the Tramp (1955) This Disney animated classic follows a pampered cocker spaniel named Lady whose comfortable life slips away once her owners have a baby. When, after some tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose and out on the street, she is befriended and protected by the tough stray mutt Tramp. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady’s household, threaten to keep them apart.

July 10: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang While truant from school, young siblings Jeremy and Jemima meet the beautiful Truly Scrumptious, who falls for their widowed father, Caractacus Potts, and his various oddball inventions, including the family’s noisy rebuilt car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. One day at the beach, Caractacus tells Truly and the children a fanciful fable about the villainous Baron Bomburst and his evil designs on the Potts family car.

July 24: Christopher Robin -- now a family man living in London -- receives a surprise visit from his old childhood pal, Winnie-the-Pooh. With Christopher’s help, Pooh embarks on a journey to find his friends -- , , Owl, , , Kanga and Roo. Once reunited, the lovable bear and the gang travel to the big city to help Christopher rediscover the joy of life.

August 14: Oliver & In this animated update of the classic “Oliver Twist” tale, Oliver is an orphaned kitten taken in by a gang of thieving dogs, led by cavalier canine Dodger and owned by down-and-out pickpocket Fagin. While pulling a job in the streets of New York City, Oliver winds up being adopted by a rich girl, Jenny, and landing on easy street. But through a series of events, a loan shark threatens the peaceful new arrangement.

Fourth of July Extravaganza The fireworks show at Loma Colorado Park will be a showstopper again this year! Bring the whole family for some summer fun. Listen to some music, and check out the dazzling display from the best spot in the city. Blankets and coolers are permitted. Food vendors will be on-site. No glass or alcoholic beverages allowed.
