  • 2018-19 Sky Bet Championship Season Preview: the Road to the Promised Land
2018-19 Sky Bet Championship Season Preview: The Road to the Promised Land Author : Ryan Osborne At the end of the EFL season, it was Fulham who took that gigantic step back into the Promised Land and with that all the riches that comes with it. A few weeks later and it is back, the football season is back. After the World Cup and all the hype surrounding it, regular football is back and this season is set to be one of the greatest. Managers all around the EFL began plotting life in the Football League. In the Championship, the landscape has pretty much changed with the arrival of Marco Bielsa as the new Leeds Manager. His reputation goes before him as one of the games most heralded managers and with that comes his extravagant formations and tactics. It will be very interesting to see how Leeds fare this season and they have shown their mettle by signing Barry Douglas from Wolves followed by the signing of Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough. Aston Villa are another team who are favourites for promotion but with FFP rules somewhat scuppering the plans and also interest in Jack Grealish, it could have a huge bearing on where Villa finish this season. It looked like this season would start of badly as it was widely reported that the clubs new owners would look to get rid of Steve Bruce but those rumours were quashed, so now Steve Bruce can look forward to the new season. 1 / 3 Of all the relegated teams coming down you can look no further than Stoke City.

Editor Notes Alex Everson And so the season rolls on, as we move past the last International break of 2019, Reading now face a gruelling stretch of 10 games in the next 40 days up to and including Fulham away. The last month has provided some respite for us Royals fans as we have seen an uptick in fortunes under the start of the Bowen tenure, as Jordan looks at in his review. ReadingDeep returns to examine how Bowen is differing his tactical approach to that of his predecessor. Alongside those, we also have a throwback to the glory days of both the Simod Cup as Dave Stevens touches on the glory at Wembley, with a reminder that sometimes managers with no experience, no wins and sitting in a relegation zone sometimes turn out ok from Matthew Williamson who ventures back to the McDermott hiring. We also have a piece on the importance football plays in many fans lives, and how it can provide both comfort, and escapism for many. This is one of the more poignant pieces we've received to date and is a must read. If you want to get involved with writing in the next issue of The Digestive, please don't hesitate to contact me on Twitter @Readingfanman, or fill in the form on our website www.elmparkroyals.com We will speak again at Christmas time, but until then, get behind the team, and fingers crossed that the current unbeaten run perhaps is the start of the upswing we've all been waiting for.
