Regardless of the season, there is a reason to visit Cook Forest & Clear Creek State Parks. Whether it’s to enjoy the splendor of the mountain laurel and rhododendron, see the spectacular fall foliage, or to play in a virtual winter wonderland, Cook Forest and Clear Creek are waiting for you! Numerous family attractions, restaurants, shops, historic sites and accommodations are located within close proximity to the parks. Recreational opportunities are plentiful for all ages and interests. • Explore an ancient forest. • Bike on a scenic bicycle trail. • Bird watching -- over 90 species have been identified throughout the parks. • Hike on miles of trails fit for novice to the experienced hiker. • Canoe, kayak or tube down the Clarion River, a nationally designated wild and scenic waterway. • Spend the afternoon at a fun park and enjoy the water slides, go-karts, bumper boats, miniature golf and more! • Geocaching, try your luck at finding one of our area caches. • Go horseback riding along forested trails. • Swim in the Clarion River. • Plan your vacation during one of the many fairs and festivals. Visit a local flea market. • Winter activities include cross country skiing, ice skating, sled riding, hiking and/or building a snowman for the Snowman Building Contest. Page 2 Interesting information ... Cook Forest The 8500-acre Cook Forest State Park and the 3,136 acre Clarion River Lands are a vacation wonderland. Park Naturalists conduct free environmental interpretive programs year round at Cook Forest. The splendor of the Forest Cathedral, a National Natural Landmark is unsurpassed. The 200 to 350 year old trees in this area measure as much as five feet in diameter and tower almost 200 feet in the air. The Forest Cathedral is easily reached via Longfellow Trail behind the Log Cabin Environmental Learning Classroom. Visitors can enjoy this ancient forest on over 47 miles of hiking trails and 4.3 miles of multi-use trails within Cook Forest State Park. An additional 24 miles of multi-use trails and 8 miles of hiking trails are located within the Clarion River Lands. Each of the marked trails offers a unique outdoor encounter. The Clarion River, a nationally designated Wild and Scenic Waterway, winds through Cook Forest State Park. Popular river activities include canoeing, tubing, kayaking, swimming and fish- ing. Northern pike, smallmouth bass, walleye, catfish, trout and all species of panfish are abundant in the river. A fishing area designated especially for children and handicapped visitors is located near the Cook Forest State Park office. Seneca Point Overlook near the #9 Firetower offers a breathtak- ing view of the Clarion River Valley. The adventuresome can climb 70 feet to the top of the old #9 Firetower for an impressive view of the area. Clear Creek Clear Creek State Park covers 1,901 acres in the scenic Clear Creek Valley. Located just 11 miles from Cook Forest State Park, Clear Creek offers a unique outdoor experience. Hikers can explore the park on more than 25 miles of hiking trails. When in bloom, the beauty of the rhododendron and mountain laurel are unsurpassed. Many forms of wildlife inhabit the park including deer, black bear, turkey and grouse. The Ox-shoe Historical Trail is a popular self-guided attraction affording a leisurely walk through the park. Scenic views of the area are available at Bear Town Rocks Trail. This trailhead is located near the entrance to Clear Creek State Park. Opportunities abound for anglers in Clear Creek, where stocked and native brook trout can be found. Clear Creek, Callen Run and Clear Run are stocked with brook, rainbow and brown trout. SawMILL CENTER HERB & FIBER festivaL June 5-6, 2021 • 10AM-5PM Daily This marks the 37th year for this signature Sawmill Center Herb and Fiber Festival welcomes summer with beautiful ideas to start gardens and get closer to nature. This outdoor festival features hanging baskets, bedding flats, perennials, annuals, herbs, and creations from amazing garden artists the weekend of June 5 – 6, 2021. CHAINsaw Carvers' ROUND-UP September 17-19, 2021 • 10AM-5PM Daily The Cook Forest Chainsaw Carvers’ Round-up begins on Friday, September 17, 2021 featuring chainsaw carvers transforming the logs into beautifully crafted pieces of art all weekend long at this outdoor event. Shop individual carvers daily starting at 10 a.m. or participate in the auctions on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Registration for the auction begins at 3:00 p.m. each day. ANNUAL GINGERBREAD TOUR November 5-7, 2021 • 10AM-5PM Daily Shop the twenty-mile corridor of unique vendors from Cook Forest State Park to Historic Brookville, Pennsylvania. The pre-Christmas shopping extravaganza has a diverse array of items that are sure to please every taste whether you are looking for yourself or someone on your list. Brochures with the tour map will be published in the spring with a list of vendors and restaurants and will be available at all participating stores as well as the PA Great Outdoors Visitor Center, our Brookville and Clarion Chambers of Commerce, website, and our Facebook page.
