P.C. Mark Thornton from police has asked all Neighbourhood Watch groups to be aware that police and insurance companies are experiencing a very high level of thefts of catalytic converters from four wheel drive vehicles. The thefts appear to be occurring overnight and into the early hours, mainly in rural towns and villages. People are requested to be vigilant in spotting any suspicious people/vehicles and alerting neighbours and the police so that preventative measures can be taken.

Another problem is that cannabis farms are being set up in ordinary houses. They are usually in rented properties. When the “new people” move in they usually bring a lot of equipment with them including ventilation and lighting equipment and bags of soil. They may try to adapt the premises and may not be seen during the daytime, but will be coming and going at odd hours. Another indicator is covered up windows, often constantly pulled curtains or black out blinds, also a strong sickly sweet smell and condensation on windows. Please contact the police or use the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111 to report anything suspicious. Thank you Julie Smith

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS - May Meeting

The Police Reports for February and March showed, once again, that crime levels in the village remain low with 4 crimes reported in February (3 non-dwelling burglaries and 1 theft from a motor vehicle) and none at all in March. The Police remain concerned at the levels of Scrap Metal theft in the area - once again if anything suspicious is noted, please either ring anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or Brigg Police Station on 101. Regarding the possible Scrap Metal Thefts, a suspicious vehicle, a black BMW25, reg. G2??ALF has been linked to this activity in this area. If you see this vehicle, please ring the police on 101 with as much detail as possible and directions of travel.

The local Road Safety Partnership has sought Council's help in setting up the “20’s Plenty” campaign again. The Partnership wishes to remind local drivers that in many residential areas, although the speed limit may be 30mph, 20 mph is actually more than fast enough and is more appropriate with lighter evenings and warmer days seeing more children, pedestrians and cyclists out and about. The Council has some "20 is Plenty" cards which residents can place in their windows in areas where excessive speed is a problem. If required, cards can be obtained from the Clerk, Graham Foster (651250) You can send e-mail all Parish Council members via [email protected] CHALLENGE OF A LIFETIME Singer for Ceremonies - 19 year old Wrawby resident, Lucy Hoyle, is taking part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. VILLAGE HALL LUNCHES 80 different people attended one or more Village Hall Lunches this spring. One eventful chaotic Tuesday 59 people came on the same day and all got fed! Usually we average about 40 people per lunch. There is a wide range of ages among those attending which is lovely. We have several people in their 80’s but then at least 4 babies aged under 6 months, and everything in between. We will be back in the Autumn starting on the 25th of Sept. 80 people cannot all be wrong> If you have not yet been, why not join us? Thanks must go to all the people who help at the lunches. They range from the people who get the tables out, the helpers who lay the tables and serve the food. The welcomers, and last but not least the cooks who make the soup, and the plum bread. It is a real community effort. Thank you all! Mary Tustin

As I write these notes I have one eye on the TV news and two reports catch my attention; the Olympic flame is about to land in Cornwall, the Queen is hosting a dinner at Windsor Castle for other royals from around the world to mark her Jubilee.

This month Wrawby will be involved in both these events, at the beginning of the month we along with the rest of the country will mark the Queens Diamond Jubilee with two days bank holidays and no doubt plenty of festivities. Towards the end of the month we will have the opportunity to witness the Olympic flame passing through our village.

My thoughts this month go behind those two events as they both mark three things; dedication, commitment and duty. Most of us on reaching the Queen’s age will have been celebrating quite a number of years retirement. But the Queen has served this country for 60 years and her sense of duty has never diminished. From young woman, newly married, to raising a family through to her senior years her dedication and commitment to this country and indeed the commonwealth has been an inspiration, despite her advancing years it shows no sign of abating, as her Jubilee tour of the country bears testimony.

The Olympics is the pinnacle of most sportsmen and women’s achievements. It is the culmination of many months, years and sometimes decades of dedication and commitment. The many hours of training and sacrifice and perhaps pain and injury that lies behind these Olympic events. For some will come the reward of glory and triumph, some will have to be satisfied with personal records and achievements; some will only suffer heartbreak and injury. Most will have to be satisfied with having taken part and represented their country to the best of their ability.

We do not have to be a reigning monarch or an Olympian to show the characteristics of dedication, commitment and duty. Many of us exhibit these qualities in our daily lives, often without thinking about it. Whether it is in looking after our families, or in our work commitments, through our hobbies or sports, in our volunteering to help and support others, in our faith or in serving our communities. All three of these qualities demand something of ourselves, our all, our time and energy- we have to give without expecting to receive in return. Communities and relationships thrive as a result of them.

Like the Queen it may mean dedicating her life to fulfil her duty. Let us wish Her Majesty a happy Jubilee Year and all Olympians a successful Games. Nigel Good
