Hillsborough Street is located along the border of North Campus. It links the city of Raleigh and the NC State community seamlessly while providing entertainment and services vital to our students. Memorial Bell Tower Since its completion in 1937, the Memorial Bell Tower has stood as a symbol of identity for North Carolina State University, a timekeeper for tradition and a perpetual memorial to NC State students who gave their lives in defense of their country. Started in 2004 as a dare between a few students, the Krispy Kreme Challenge not only tests participants physical stamina but also their intestinal fortitude. Competitors run two and a half miles to the nearest Krispy Kreme on Peace Street where they down a dozen doughnuts, and then run back, all in an hour to complete the challenge. Proceeds from the race go to the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Participants sign up as a challenger, casual runner, doughnut supporter or volunteer. Community service is an integral part of life at NC State. That commitment to community and reciprocity continues with the Center for Excellence in Curricular Engagement. Working together, faculty, students and community members will address community- identified issues and through critical reflection, engender personal growth, academic and civic learning as well as enhance capacity for individual and collective learning, critical thinking and leadership. The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service (CSLEPS) sponsors workshops, seminars, conferences, speakers and special events throughout the year while linking students with local and global volunteer opportunities in areas like animal protection, environmental concerns, elder issues, education, healthcare, hunger, mentoring, tutoring and other fields. The center also sponsors NC State’s most popular student service option, the Alternative Service Break Program. This initiative encourage students to devote their semester breaks to service projects locally and abroad, often working with outside organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Stop Hunger Now. Service Raleigh, another university wide initiative, links the NC State community with local volunteer opportunities, giving students, faculty and staff a chance to give back to the city we call home. NC State volunteers contribute thousands of hours to projects that include working in homeless shelters, painting nursing homes, distributing fliers for multiple sclerosis societies and helping with campus beautification. Held every October. Open House gives students and their families, opportunity to visit our campus and learn about academic programs and student life at the state’s largest public university. University visitors may park in any hourly pay lot or pay-by-space area. Visitors parked in these areas pay the posted parking rates. www.ncsu.edu/transportation/parking/visitors. html. Visitors may also purchase a daily permit for $10 at the Transportation Office located at 2721 Sullivan Drive from 7am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. These permits are specific to certain areas of campus and are not valid in visitor pay lots. If you park in a pay lot, you will be charged the pay lot rate. Visitors with a state-issued handicap/accessible placard may purchase a daily permit and park in any accessible parking space throughout campus. Wolfline is the university’s transit system (open to the public) and the best way to acquaint yourself with campus. Just hop aboard at any marked bus stop – no fare or ID is required to ride. Visitors may also park free in any off-campus Wolfline park-and-ride lot and ride Wolfline to their campus destination. Download the TransLoc App for free and track the Wolfline buses in real time. Interested in taking a dip in the 40° waters of Lake Raleigh on Centennial Campus? Then the Polar Plunge is for you! The plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support Special Olympics North Carolina athletes. First organized in 2006, the event attracts more than one hundred people willing to take the plunge in late February along with over 800 runners/walkers participating in a 5K. This event kicks off the NC State Police Department’s fundraising efforts to benefit the North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Now part of the Wolfpack Gives Back campaign, the event continues to expand in popularity.

Since the first football game in 1892, North Carolina State University has competed at the highest level of college athletics, winning two NCAA national championships, two AIAW titles and four other national championships. We’ve also produced Olympic medalists in swimming as well as 26 individual NCAA and AIAW national champions in a variety of sports. NC State competes in 23 intercollegiate varsity sports and is a founding member and competitor in one of the nation’s premier leagues the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center, built on the southern shore of Centennial Campus’ Lake Raleigh, is an elegant destination for a business lunch and a prime location for reunions, post-game receptions, parties and seminars. The building features Italian marble flooring, double curving staircases and a grand reception room with a full wall of windows onto the lake. The State Club restaurant is open to the public Monday - Friday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. with a delicious menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts.
