KINGDOM LEGACY LIVE Honors Dr. Tony Evans’ 50 Years of Pastoral Ministry Live Event Celebrates Historic Achievements of Beloved Pastor

Dallas, Tex.– Dr. Tony Evans has served in pastoral ministry for 50 years, and his legacy will be celebrated during a live event on Friday, November 8. The “Kingdom Legacy Live” event is hosted by Oak Cliff Fellowship in Dallas. Tickets are at www.KingdomLegacyLive.com, and press passes are available upon request.

Presented by The Urban Alternative, the evening will feature special guests including Donnie McClurkin, Priscilla Shirer, Sherri Shepherd, Jeremy Camp, Lecrae, Natalie Grant, Anthony Evans, and surprise performances by Grammy award-winning gospel artists. The live event will not be broadcast.

“Kingdom Legacy Live” will honor Dr. Tony Evans’ historic and impactful achievements, including:  Dr. Evans founded Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in 1976, which first met in the Evans’ home. He still serves as Senior Pastor, and today the church is attended by 9,500 members.  Dr. Evans began preaching over radio airwaves in 1973. Today his broadcast, “The Alternative with Tony Evans” airs on over 1,400 radio outlets in over 130 countries, reaching millions each week.  Dr. Evans was the first African-American student to complete the doctoral program at Dallas Theological Seminary (1982).  Dr. Evans has served as chaplain of the NBA’s for the last three decades, the longest-standing NBA chaplaincy on record.  This fall, Dr. Evans became the first African-American scholar to author a Study Bible (The Tony Evans Study Bible) or Bible Commentary (The Tony Evans Bible Commentary).

Dr. Tony Evans is one of the country’s most respected leaders in evangelical circles. As a pastor, teacher, author and speaker, he serves the body of Christ through his unique ability to communicate complex theological truths through simple, yet profound, illustrations. New and veteran pastors alike regard him as a pastor of pastors and a father in the faith. About Dr. Tony Evans

Dr. Tony Evans, celebrating 50 years of pastoral ministry, is one of America’s most respected Evangelical leaders. Evans’ ministry enjoys deep Texas roots, yet his Bible teaching served a larger purpose, a Kingdom Agenda. Today, Tony Evans’ name is synonymous with strong Biblical teaching and a high view of Scripture.

TIMELINE OF SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

1949 - Anthony Tyrone "Tony" Evans born.

1972 – Evans earns a BA and is chosen “Student of the Year,” Carver College, Atlanta, GA.

1973 – Tony Evans’ public broadcasting career begins. A radio station in Houston (KHCB) contacted Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS), requesting great preaching for their programming. Tony was recommended by a professor and he began recording in a tiny studio on campus. Tony spent the next few years faithfully preaching into a microphone for a crowd unseen in Houston.

1976 – Achieved master’s degree in Theology, Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS), received “Outstanding Achievement Award.” Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (Dallas, TX) founded with ten members meeting in the Evans’ home. Today the church is attended by over 9,500 members.

1981 – The Urban Alternative formed as requests for Dr. Evans’ sermons came in so frequently from his Texas radio broadcasts that Mrs. Lois Evans, Tony’s wife and co-founder of the ministry, began fulfilling orders. Today the broadcast is heard on over 1,400 radio outlets across 130 countries, reaching millions each week.

1982 – Earned Ph.D., Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). The first African American to graduate with a doctoral degree from DTS. Dissertation titled “A Biblical critique of selected issues in Black Theology.” Served as associate professor in Pastoral Ministries Dept. for evangelism, homiletics and Black church studies.

1986 - Tony was invited to preach at the National Religious Broadcasters annual conference. This drew enormous attention and was instrumental in the expansion of his ministry.

Late 1980’s – Began chaplaincy for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks; his is the longest standing NBA chaplaincy on record (and continues). Served as Chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys, a role now held by his son, Jonathan.

2006 - Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship listed in top 50 of America’s Most Influential Churches.

2017 – Launch of the Tony Evans Training Center, an online learning platform for biblical study and leadership.

2018 - Recognized as one of the 12 most 'effective' preachers in the English language by Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary.

2019 – Celebrates 50 years of ministry. Becomes first African-American scholar to author a complete Bible commentary and first African-American to publish a study Bible and Bible commentary (Tony Evans Bible Commentary and Tony Evans Study Bible).

 Publishing: Dr. Evans is a prolific author of more than 100 different books, Bible studies and devotionals, including his legacy work, Oneness Embraced, and his vision work, The Kingdom Agenda.  Honors: Dr. Evans received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Eastern College (St. Davids, PA) as well as an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Dallas Baptist University (Dallas, TX).

 Family: Dr. Evans is married to Lois, his wife and ministry partner of more than 50 years. They are the proud parents of four, grandparents of thirteen and great-grandparents of two.
