  • What We Do at Chaps Parents Meetings
    What we do at ChAPS For children we run a range of regular activities on a monthly basis. We also run an Intensive Social Skills programme and a Mindfulness programme both in small groups for 8 weeks. The Club is our specialised socialisation group running weekly in Northwich. We also have Lego and Play Therapy intensive sessions. We always put on extra holiday activities like raft building, science workshops, working farm visits, climbing, tubing etc. For adults we run an Independence and Living Skills programme in small groups. Spectrum Connect our adults social group in Runcorn and Winsford, Crafty Club weekly in Runcorn or Northwich, Anti Gravity Yoga in Widnes, Counselling, monthly walk in Delamere Forest, extra social activities like bingo or quiz nights, art trips, salt mines etc. For parents we have lots of daytime and evening parent support meetings where you can learn how other parents access services, gain advice about an issue you are struggling to deal with. We have a training programme which includes topics such as the 7 senses, comic strip and social stories, transitions, girls on the spectrum, puberty, anxieties and stress management. ‘The Best Gift is YOU’ an empowering programme for 10 weeks targeting wellbeing and coping strategies. We also offer Counselling, an Advocacy service and run social events. We run the Attention Card with Cheshire Police and now Merseyside Police for anyone with a medical diagnosis which is a superb initiative giving support in emergency situations. An optional part of the application form is to list their difficulties and this information is then put onto the PNC and the police’s intelligence data system.

    MASCY of RIXTON St George’s Visitation of Lancashire in 1613 records that Edmond Lathom (father of George Lathom of Huyton and son of Thomas Latham) married Petronill Massey, daughter and heiress of George Massey (otherwise Mascy) of Rixton, Warrington, by his wife Katherine, daughter and heiress of Oliver Barton. 1 Edmund Latham was probably born to Thomas Latham by c. 1441 and his marriage to Petronill (confirmed by a reference in the Widnes court roll of 1510–11) probably took place by 1462.2 The clearest accounts of the complex descents of the Mascy/Massy families of Dunham and Tatton and the line of Mascy of Rixton are those of the Cheshire historian Ormerod and of Mrs Tempest. 3 Baines also provides a useful pedigree.4 The family name was anciently ‘De Mascy’ or ‘Le Mascy’ although Massy, Massey or Massie became more usual in the sixteenth century. ORIGINS According to Mrs Tempest, George Mascy was one of the five sons (and four daughters) of Hamon Mascy (who succeeded to the Rixton estates in 1407, as son and heir of Richard le Mascy de Rixton) and his wife Ellen Horton.5 The first de Mascy lord of Rixton was Hamon, son of Robert de Mascy of Tatton (Rosthern, Cheshire), who in turn was descended from Hamon Massy, first baron of Dunham Massy (Bowdon, Cheshire). Hamon Massy, 1st Baron of Dunham-Massy Hamon Massy seems to have been granted Dunham, Bowdon, Hale, Ashley and half of Owlarton (Bucklow hundred, Cheshire) by Hugh Lupus, earl of Chester in temp.     CHESHIRE EAST: DEVELOPING EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE The Cheshire East emotionally healthy children and young people partnership is led by Cheshire East council’s children’s services, and is primarily funded from the council’s public health budget. Many organisations have been actively involved in developing the partnership including the NHS’s local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and children’s and adolescents mental health services (CAMHS), headteachers, and several vol- untary organisations. As a council senior manager explained: “It’s all partnership working. We work with schools, with the CCG, with health providers, with school nurses, health visitors, early years services, third sector organisations.” As a health lead commented: “It is pretty unique in its nature and scope.” The partnership’s aim is to support children and young people in becoming more mentally resilient: to be better able to manage their own mental health, to pro- cess what is going on in their environment, and to access specialist services should they need them. They want to reduce the number of children and young people attending accident and emergency services, or being inappropriately re- ferred to the CAMHS. The partnership’s original focus was creating ‘emotionally healthy schools’, but they are now extending their reach into early years settings. “We have been really blessed in support from above. We have had investment in to this project year after year. The moral and ethical support is there but also Pinancial.” INITIAL PHASE In 2015 CCGs were required to produce a local ‘children and mental health trans- formation plan’ to implement the NHS’s national ‘Five Year Forward View’ and ‘Future in Mind’ recommendations.
