Chapman, a 6-2, 215-pound junior, batted .312 with six home runs and a team-leading 48 RBI this season for the Titans. He walked 27 times against just 26 strikeouts and finished the season with a .412 on-base percentage. The right-handed hitter also hit 16 doubles and stole six bases in eight attempts. The Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native was named to the First Team All-Big West Conference team following the 2014 season. This marks the sixth time in the last seven years the A’s have drafted a position player with their first-round pick, along with Billy McKinney (2013), Addison Russell (2012), Michael Choice (2010), Grant Green (2009) and Jemile Weeks (2008). The A’s drafted right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray in the first round in 2011. It also marks the first time the A’s have drafted a college player in the first round since Gray was selected out of Vanderbilt University three years ago. The Athletics have one more pick tonight, their second round pick (65th selection overall), which is expected to be announced shortly after 8 p.m. PDT. Green was batting .318 with 11 home runs and 49 RBI in 81 games with Sacramento and will be making his Major League debut. He is tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in runs (61) and hits (112), tied for fourth in doubles (25), ranks fifth in total bases (176) and tied for sixth in extra base hits (39). The 25-year old right-handed hitter was batting .366 against left-handed pitching compared to .306 against right-handers. Green was batting .269 over his first six games in July after hitting .372 with seven home runs and 21 RI in 26 games in June. He has appeared in 67 games at second base, 13 at designated hitter and one at first base. Green was the A’s first round selection and the 13th pick overall in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. He has a .305 average with 55 home runs and 276 RBI in 469 games over five seasons in the minors. Rosales was batting .200 with four home runs and eight RBI in 48 games with the A’s. He began the season on the disabled list with a strained left intercostal but was reinstated April 25 and hit .318 over his first 13 games.

The Boston Red Sox Monday, November 5, 2018 * The Boston Globe Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Ian Kinsler win Gold Glove awards Peter Abraham Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t need a Gold Glove to be recognized as one of the best center fielders in the major leagues. Red Sox fans have known that for several years. But Bradley certainly did deserve one and it finally came his away on Sunday night. Bradley, right fielder Mookie Betts, and second baseman Ian Kinsler were Gold Glove winners. The Red Sox and Atlanta Braves each had three. A finalist in 2014 and ’16, Bradley was selected ahead of Mike Trout (Angels) and Adam Engel (White Sox) in voting done by managers and coaches. Bradley was second among MLB center fielders with an 8.7 ultimate zone rating and tied for the American League lead with eight assists. There’s no statistic for improbable acrobatic catches but Bradley had a series of those. Betts won for the third consecutive year, the first Red Sox player to do that since Dwight Evans won five in a row from 1981-85. Betts is now one of seven Red Sox players to win three or more Gold Gloves. Betts led all right fielders with 20 defensive runs saved. He has 83 DRS the last three seasons. Kinsler, 36, is now a two-time winner. He also won with the Tigers in 2016. In 128 games for the Angels and Red Sox, Kinsler had 10 DRS, the most in the AL at second base. LINE DRIVES THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL WRITERS NEWSLETTER (Volume 48, No. 3, Apr. 17, 2009) The President’s Message By NCBWA President Joe Dier NCBWA Membership: With the 2008-09 hoops season now in the record books, the collegiate spotlight is focusing more closely on the nation’s baseball diamonds. Though we’re heading into the final month of the season, there are still plenty of twists and turns ahead on the road to Omaha and the 2009 NCAA College World Series. The NCAA will soon be announcing details of next month’s tournament selection announcements naming the regional host sites (May 24) and the 64-team tournament field (May 25). To date, four different teams have claimed the top spot in the NCBWA’s national Division I polls --- Arizona State, Georgia, LSU, and North Carolina. Several other teams have graced the No. 1 position in other national polls. The NCAA’s mid-April RPI listing has Cal State Fullerton leading the 301-team pack, with 19 teams sporting 25-win records through games of April 12. For the record, New Mexico State tops the wins list with a 30-6 mark. As the conference races heat up from coast to coast, the NCBWA will begin the process for naming its All- America teams and the Divk Howser Trophy (see below). We will have a form going out to conference offices and Division I independents in coming days. Last year’s NCBWA-selected team included 56 outstanding baseball athletes, and we want to have the names of all deserving players on the table for consideration for this year’s awards.

Oakland Athletics Call Up Top Prospect Michael Choice Author : @TheInscriberMag With the Sacramento River Cats being eliminated from playoff contention yesterday it didn't take much time for the Oakland Athletics to call up top outfield prospect Michael Choice. The now 23-year old got taken in the first round with the 10th pick in the 2010 MLB Draft and has progressively made his way up through the minor league system for the A's. For his 013 season in Sacramento he hit .302 with 154 hits, 90 runs scored, 29 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs, 89 rbi and a OBP of .390. He can play all three outfield positions though he most likely will see time in left field or right field when given the chance to start by manager Bob Melvin. Chris Young has struggled throughout the season and if the A's face a left-handed starter Choice might get the opportunity to start and according to the A's lineup card second basemen Jemile Weeks, shortstop Andy Parrino and reliever Pedro Figueroa have also been added to the roster. The River Cats do have two more games remaining for the season, so within the next couple of days more additions will get made. Currently the A's are two games back of the Texas Rangers for the AL West division and are looking to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays with right-hander A.J. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

The Athletics also drafted shortstop Daniel Robertson from Upland High School in Upland, Calif., and first baseman Matt Olson from Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., as compensation picks following the first round. Russell batted .358 with eight home runs and 33 RBI in 32 games for Pace HS this year. He added 30 walks for a .532 on-base percentage and scored 40 runs. Russell hit .460 in his four-year high school career with 37 home runs. The 11th overall selection, Russell is the first high school pick by the A’s in the first round since 2001 when they drafted Jeremy Bonderman with the 26th selection. Since 1991, the only other high school players the A’s selected in the first round were Eric Chavez (1996) and Ben Grieve (1994). Russell is the third position player the A’s have chosen in the first round in the last four years along with Michael Choice (2010) and Grant Green (2009). In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the A’s have also designated Triple-A outfielder Nick Buss for assignment. Samardzija (pronounced suh-MAHR-jah), 29, currently ranks 10th in ERA among National League starting pitchers with a 2.83 figure and 2-7 record in 17 games, all starts, for the Cubs. The 6-5, 225-pound right-hander has struck out 103 batters, walked only 31 and allowed 99 hits in 108.0 innings. He has posted a 1.20 WHIP and yielded a .245 opponents’ batting average this season. The Merrillville, Ind. native has averaged 8.84 strikeouts per nine innings since the start of the 2011 season, the seventh- best mark in the National League during that period. Samardzija was also one of four NL pitchers last year to reach 213.2 innings and 214 strikeouts, joining the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw, the Phillies’ Cliff Lee and the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright. He was chosen by the Cubs in the fifth round of the 2006 Draft out of Notre Dame, where he was first team All-Big East in baseball and a first team All-America tight end in football.
