Superstitions, Cont’d. T Daniel Loper, Tennessee Puts his equipment on left to right in game order for every practice and game. QB Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Reads the game program cover to cover before every game. RB Moran Norris, San Francisco Does not walk under the cross bars before games. FB Mike Sellers, Washington Does not eat before a game, even if it’s a night game. WR Maurice Stovall, Tampa Bay Gets his hair cut every Friday and watches a Bruce Lee movie before every game. CB Charles Tillman, Chicago Has the same person stretch him and tape him. DE Jason Taylor, Miami Does everything from right to left. K Lawrence Tynes, Giants Washes his car before every home game. LB Brian Urlacher, Chicago Eats a couple of chocolate chip cookies before every game. NFL NICKNAMES “Peanut” may not be the first nickname that usually comes to mind for an NFL player, but that’s exactly the name Chicago Bears corner back CHARLES TILLMAN has gone by since childhood. But the nicknames get even more creative — Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback BYRON LEFTWICH gave his teammate MAURICE JONES-DREW the nickname “Pinball” after the way defenders bounced off the running back during training camp last year. Ranging in origin from athletic ability to size or demeanor, these nicknames give a creative insight into the players they have been given to. Here are some other interesting NFL player nicknames: PLAYER NICKNAME DERIVATION Anthony Adams, Chi. “Double A” Teammates say he moves constantly, just like the Energizer Bunny. Keith Adams, Miami “The Bullet” Runs down the field as fast as he can and zeroes in on his target.

  • All-Nfc North Team
ALL-NFC NORTH TEAM By Bob McGinn Posted: Dec. 31, 2005 Scouts from each of the NFC North teams were asked last week to rank the top three players in the division at each position. They were not permitted to vote for their own players, and none of the comments that follow in the position-by-position rundown was made by a scout about a player on his own team. A first-place vote was worth three points, a second-place vote was worth two and a third-place vote was worth one. Asterisks denote unanimous selections. OFFENSE NO. 1 WIDE RECEIVER: *Muhsin Muhammad (Chi.), 9 points. Others: Donald Driver (GB), 7; Roy Williams (Det.), 5; Travis Taylor (Minn.), 3. Comments: Muhammad dropped 11 passes and cost the Bears $12 million in signing bonus, but he was light years better than the No. 1 from '94, David Terrell. "It's a bad group," one scout said. "If (Rex) Grossman had been the quarterback it'd have been easier to determine where Muhammad is at in his career." Driver had one of his finest seasons. "He's still a better 2 than he is a 1," one scout said. Williams ranks as a two-year disappointment. "He has to understand the difference between being hurt and being injured," one scout said. LEFT TACKLE: Chad Clifton (GB), 8. Others: Jeff Backus (Det.) and John Tait (Chi.), 6; Bryant McKinnie (Minn.), 4. Comments: Clifton had too many penalties but made first team for the third year in a row. "He's close to elite," one scout said.

Nolan O'Hara and Brendan O'Brien INTRO MUSIC PLAYS NOLAN O'HARA: Hello, and welcome back to another TH episode of the "Weekly Rundown" presented by the Minnesota Daily. I'm your host, Nolan O'Hara. We're back and finally we have some sports to talk about as Big Ten • football returned here, the Gophers had their first game on Saturday, a game they lost 49-24 to Michigan. So, I'm here again with Brendan, our football beat reporter and we're going to break down both the Gophers loss to Michigan and its upcoming game against Maryland. So Brendan, how's it going? BRENDAN O'BRIEN: Doing pretty well, Nolan. Well rested, 0 ready to talk some football today and watch some tomorrow. O'HARA: Love to hear it. Love to hear it. Yeah, so obviously, as we can see by the score, or by watching it, the game didn't go exactly how P.J. Fleck and the rest of the team had planned. The first quarter was wild to say the least, it could have gone either way, it looked like it was going to go either way that neither team could stop each other.
