    Chapter 9 - Kristen Rasmussen Tarr Kristen Rasmussen Personal Kristen Rasmussen was born November 1, 1978, the daughter of Gaylan and Carolyn Rasmussen. She played Division I basketball (Michigan State University), professional basketball on several WNBA teams, and professionally in Europe. She also has coached at the college level and currently is the head coach of the Okemos girls’ varsity basketball team. Okemos High School 1992-93 Rasmussen began contributing to Chieftain basketball as early as during her freshman year. Freshman Photo Regular Season On September 1, the Chieftains opened their season with a 77-40 win over Eastern. Okemos freshman Kristen Rasmussen has yet to reach her 16th birthday. But she learned Tuesday how sweet that number can be. Rasmussen came off the bench to spark a 16-0 second quarter rally to break the game open as Okemos rolled to a 77-40 season opening victory. … “I thought my team needed some help out there, so I went out and did my job,” the 12-year-old said after Eastern rallied from a 11-3 deficit to tie the game at the end of the first quarter (Source). By game’s end, Rasmussen had scored 20 points on nine field goals and 2-2 from the free throw line. On September 22, the Chieftains defeated Adrian, 42-31. “Rasmussen led Okemos (5- 2) with 10 points and 10 rebounds” (Source). On October 8, at Mason, “6-foot-1 freshman center Rasmussen came off the bench in the second quarter and scored 22 points, 16 in the second half, to rally the Chieftains to a 62-60 win (Source).

    Crossroads League Timeline April 10, 1959 – An organizational meeting was held in Huntington, IN, attended by representatives from Huntington College, Concordia College, Tri-State University, and Indiana Tech. Richard Klopfenstein was elected to serve as Chairman, while Murray Mendenhall Jr. was chosen as Secretary. Motions were carried to include Basketball, Baseball, Golf, and Tennis as sanctioned sports. Further motions established All-Sports Points systems and regulations for competition. At this time several possible conference names were presented including: North Central Indiana Conference and Mid-Indiana Conference, but no final decision was made at this time. o Richard Klopfenstein spearheads move to create a broad based athletic conference for colleges throughout Indiana sharing faith based heritage and athletic competition. Klopfenstein would serve as the MCC’s first President beginning in 1959 and remain active both in the MCC and at Huntington University where he would serve as Athletic Director and coach. Klopfenstein is widely regarded as the “founding father” of the MCC. May 14, 1959 The name Mid-Central College Conference is chosen by a 5-4 vote over Northern Indiana College Conference. June 1, 1959 The Mid-Central College Conference Constitution is officially ratified. 1959-60 Huntington College wins the first MCC All-Sports Trophy. Tennis, Basketball, Golf and Baseball complete the first year of championship play. September 17, 1963 Membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics NAIA is granted. 1964-65 Badminton, Bowling, Volleyball, Table Tennis, are all hosted as single day tournaments for MCC institutions. 1965-66 Track & Field officially added as MCC sport. 1966 Saint Francis College joins the MCC as the 5th member institution 1967 Soccer officially added as MCC sport.

Here's a look at the potential Missouri Pittsburgh Syracuse Nebraska Ohio State Northwestern Minnesota Michigan St. Wisconsin Purdue State Penn Michigan Iowa Indiana Illinois future of the non-revenue sports at Rutgers if it joins the Big Ten: BASEBALL Now: Under longtime head coach Fred Hill Sr., the Scarlet Knights made the Rutgers NCAA Tournament four times last decade. The Big East Conference’s national clout was hurt by the defection of Miami in 2004. The last conference team to make the College World Series was Louisville in 2007. After: Rutgers could emerge as the class of the conference. You find the best baseball either down South or out West. The power conferences are the ACC, Pac-10 and SEC. A Big Ten team has not made the CWS since Michigan in 1984. MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Now: At the Big East championships in October, Rutgers finished 12th out of 14 teams. Syracuse won the Big East title and finished 14th at nationals. Four other Big East schools made the Top 25. After: The conferences are similar. Wisconsin won the conference title and took seventh at nationals. Two other schools made the Top 25. MEN’S GOLF Now: The Scarlet Knights have made the NCAA Tournament twice since 1983.
