INCEPTION

The IISU grew out of the International College for Girls (ICG) which was established in 1995, as a college affiliated to the University of . Since then, ICG has crossed many significant milestones in its journey towards excellence in higher education. Besides receiving numerous other accolades, it was accredited A+ by the NAAC of UGC in 2005. It was also identified as a Model College by the state government in 2006and thereafter it was conferred the status of Autonomous College in 2007 by the U.G.C. It was further recognized as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by the UGC in 2010. In a national survey conducted by AC-Nielsen- ORG MARG, also in 2010 for the Today magazine, ICG was rated as the topmost college in the state in Arts, Science and Commerce streams. Ranked among the top 30 institutions of the country in this survey, the College became a symbol of quality education and women‟s empowerment. The institution while working as an Autonomous College was declared as Deemed-to-be-a-University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, vide its notification dated 2nd Febraury, 2009, issued under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. This, more than an achievement, was a reaffirmation of our faith in the quality and innovation, in research and academics taken up at the institution right from its inception in 1995. Soon after becoming Deemed University in the name and style of „The IIS University‟, in a review conducted by the „Tandon Committee‟ constituted by the MHRD, it was recognized for its competence and strength and was placed in category 1, along with the 37 other Deemed-to-be-Universities of Category 1 across the country. This has accorded IISU greater reliability and credibility and provided with a unique opportunity to explore and put in place what is needed to empower its students through the three Es -Efficiency,Excellence and Effectiveness and prepare them as worthy citizens, ready to takeup social and economic reforms with a scientific aptitude.

Thus, from a visionary beginning in 1995, IISU is now moving on to new heights as a digitally smart campus with contemporary and relevant programmes and e-learning systems. Alongside its rapid growth and development, the University retains a friendliness and warmth, which has characterized the institution from its early days. With about 5000 students on its rolls and more than 300 faculty and staff members, it offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral degree programmes in streams like, Arts, Humanities, Visual Arts, Science, Home Science, Social Sciences, Computer Science and IT, Commerce and Management , Fashion Designing, Jwellery Designing etc. A multidisciplinary University, its curriculum requires both breadth of learning and in-depth knowledge and prepares its graduates to be problem- solvers, communicators and ethical citizens of a global community.

Dr. Gupta welcomes graduands

While empowering the female graduands, Dr. Gupta said “It is said that girls with dreams become women with vision! But for that vision to become a reality, it is important that women have a seat at the table. And if it is not available to you, as it may happen very often, reset the table! Because it is not enough to talk about equality, you will have to work at it. Empower yourself, empower each other! I firmly believe that equality, especially women‟s equality is not just a moral issue, it‟s not just a humanitarian issue, it is not just a fairness issue, it is a security issue, it is a prosperity issue, and it is a peace issue.”

He has also shown high hopes on the students who leave this campus with a deep reservoir of the IISU spirit of inclusion, diversity and equality, a reservoir that will grow over the years and invited to join BANDHAN- the association of the alumnae of this University so that you can stay connected with your alma mater.

Male members must come forward to empower women: Gen V.K.Singh

The female grandaunts of The IIS University were motivated by General V.K.Singh‟s impressive speech on women empowerment. “The 21st century is a phenomenal era for women empowerment, as we see women holding key positions in the higher echelons of our society. Their participation in the decision-making process has led to socio-economic development. Empowering women acts as a potential which

95 accelerates the economic growth and continue development of the nation. Having said that, we can see the dichotomy that on the one hand they are masters in their domain, yet there are social, cultural constraints on them which act as the main deterrent to gender equality, he said”

To achieve gender equality Gen V.K.Singh encouraged male members to discuss this issue in their and community to explore all the restrictions faced by women in their advancements and encourage their women-folk to come forward and shoulder responsibilities in the public domain.

“You have to understand in that only mother can make the difference, not the father,” Gen V.K.Singh.

Youth has a very proactive role in the making of new India: Gen V.K.Singh

Talking to the youth, future of the nation, Gen V.K.Singh said that when he look at the youth, he could see great hope. He said that the achievements of the Indian youth have given India a place of pride in the scientific and technological world. It is on this unique strength that we are today on the IT super highway.

“The challenges today are many, but in building a new India, the youth has a very proactive role and is a major player - a big stakeholder - in the making of new India. Therefore, if the targets of eradication of poverty, health, education, and a higher level of life standards are to be achieved, it is only through the power of youth, which must rise to the challenge, he asserted”

He also motivated young students by saying that excellence has got no substitute in life. Let the talent come out. Let it bloom as there are many people to encourage the talent.

“After various initiatives taken by the Indian government, India is changing. Jaipur city is now a much cleaner city as compared to how it was few years back,” asserted Gen V.K.Singh while talking about Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.

Guest Lecture On Persian Theatre

As a part of the most celebrated event of The IISU Theatrical Society, “35 Day- Annual Workshop” we had amongst us a very eminent theatre personality, Mr. RANBEER SIGH for a guest lecture on Persian Theatre on 24 August 2017. Mr. Sigh is presently the president of Indian People‟s Theatre Association, India. He‟s also the founder of Jaipur Theatre Group.

135

He started the orientation by taking the students for a long historical journey of theatre. He portrayed the hierarchy from Sanskrit Theatre as the to Persian Theatre and that to the present day theatre in the most exquisite manner. In context with the play, “Rustam- O- Sohrab” he told that it was the first Persian play written by Amateur theatre company in 1929. The company never knew that the Persian Theatre could turn into a professional theatre. The writer, Agha Hashar Kashmiri was initially a shawl seller and after watching a play, he had an instinct of writing a play himself. Hence, he wrote Rustam- O – Sohrab in Hindustani language. Agha Hashar is called the The Shakespeare of India. Throwing some more light upon Persian theatre, “There‟s no sense of Persian theatre if you can't sing” said Mr. Sigh. Also that the art of adaptation is a gift of Persian theatre only. He concluded the session by wishing students all the very best for their upcoming production as it's not an impossible task but a tough one indeed. It‟ll require a lot of stamina, hard work and dedication. It was great having Mr. Ranbeer Sigh amidst the The IISU Theatrical Society.
