Brown Rows Away With Title: Perennial powers Brown and went head to head for the sixth time in the championship’s history in Indianapolis May 31-June 2, and Brown’s win evened the score at three titles apiece. Washington earned its fourth title in the I Eights with a time of 6:36.41. Brown held off a determined California crew to finish second at 6:39.87, clinching the team championship. The Bears’ team champi- onship was the first for a school that didn’t win the I Eights. Along with Washington’s win in the I Eights, the Huskies won their first II Eights, a 6:46.39. Brown was second in that race as well.

Davis Dominates: UC Davis let the Division II women’s rowing com- munity know who was boss during the inaugural championship. The Aggies won both varsity events and earned the maximum total of 50 points to claim the team crown. In the I Eights, the Aggies defeated Western Washington by almost 10 seconds. The Aggies posted a similar margin of victory over the same team in the II Eights, winning the race with a time of 7:17.98, com- pared to Western Washington’s 7:27.14. This was the first year that three separate division championships were held. Rowing had been a National Collegiate championship since 1997. Williams Wins: Inaugural team champion Williams overcame an early lead by William Smith to capture the deciding Eights final by three-tenths of a second. In the Eights petite final, Colby’s second boat was victorious with a time of 7:30.58. Williams’ second boat took second in the petite final with a time of 7:31.59, followed by Ithaca. In the overall team standings, Williams finished with the lowest point total (nine) to earn the title. Colby finished second with 11, while William Smith and Ithaca College tied for third with 12. William Smith earned the third-place award after earning the tiebreaker of placing higher than Ithaca in the grand final.
