Open Day at as Excitement Builds for Start of Extension Service on 23 October

To share excitement with the community about the commencement of passenger service for the extension of MTR Kwun Tong Line tomorrow (23 October 2016), an Open Day was held today (22 October 2016) at Whampoa Station. Near 10,000 visitors took the opportunity to see the facilities and try the new multi-function Self-Service Points inside the new terminus of the Kwun Tong Line.

“We are delighted to see how excited local residents are about the opening of the tomorrow. Upon the opening of Whampoa Station, the journey time between Whampoa and will be about 5 minutes compared to 20 to 25 minutes’ travelling time on other means of public transport,” said Mr Adi Lau, Operations Director of MTR Corporation.

“We are all geared up to welcome the first train departing from Whampoa Station at 6:10 am tomorrow, which is a significant moment to us after years of efforts,” Mr Lau added.

Whampoa Station The Kwun Tong Line Extension is a 2.6-km underground extension of the existing Kwun Tong Line from Yau Ma Tei Station to the new Ho Man Tin and Whampoa stations.

Whampoa Station has four major entrances which are located in the most populated parts of the neighbourhood. In view of the limited underground space in the area, Whampoa Station adopts a single platform with two separate concourses.

Every other train on Kwun Tong Line will terminate at during peak hours on weekdays and specified hours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The train frequency at Ho Man Tin Station will be approximately 2 minutes while that for Whampoa Station will be approximately 4 minutes. Passengers are advised to pay attention to the information displayed on platforms, as well as station and in-train announcements.

Souvenir Tickets To commemorate the commencement of service of the Kwun Tong Line Extension, the MTR Corporation is launching a special Souvenir Ticket Set featuring brand new art pieces in the two new stations for two consecutive weeks starting from 29 October 2016 (Saturday). The first ticket set, “Ho Man Tin”, will be available for sale from 29 October 2016 while “Whampoa” will go on sale from 5 November 2016.
