Salman Khan hit produces impressive numbers despite non-holiday weekend
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Eros International plc (Eros), a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment industry, has announced a strong opening weekend at the box office for Jai Ho with an impressive US$ 16.3 million gross worldwide, despite its release on a non-holiday weekend.
Produced by Eros and Sohail Khan Productionz, the Salman Khan hit has appeared on approximately 5,000 screens worldwide starting on January 24, 2014.
Salman Khan, one of Bollywood’s leading directors and stars, demonstrated his global appeal driving audiences to the ticket counters during the opening weekend and amassed a significant US$ 12.7 million gross (US$ 9.7 million net) in India and US$ 3.6 million.
At the domestic box office, despite being a non-holiday, the film opened US$ 2.8 million on Friday followed by US$ 2.7 million on Saturday. With fantastic word of mouth, the film’s collections showed a massive jump of 64% on Sunday by delivering an impressive US$ 4.2 million at the domestic box office.
