14 . Major contributions:

 Support Guidelines for Depillaring Panels for Indian coal mines. During application of Continuous Miner Technology in Indian Coal Mines, developed support guide lines are being used for more than 4.8m roadway width.  Short Wall Method of Mining for the extraction of developed pillars is very much popular in to make faster extraction of developed pillars from U/G coal mines.

 Pillar Strength Equation for Under-ground Coal Mines in the Presence of Non- coal Bands: This pillar equation is being used for the design of the coal mine pillar in the presence of non-coal band which is the need of several mines of SCCL and WCL where non-coal banded seams are existing.

 Pillar Design and Its Extraction Pattern Using Continuous Miner Technology: Till now design has been made for: Jhanjhra & Shyamsunderpur Collieries of ECL, NCPH and Rani Atari collieries SECL, VK7 Incline and Shantikhani Mine of SCCL.

 Design of Blasting-Gallery Method of Mining for thick seam extraction is the only best possible underground mining method to maximize the recovery from thick seams quickly.

 Development of Mining Guide-lines for the extraction of Mica Ore from the Nellore Mica Belt of A.P.: In this study project, author has develop a guide lines for design of various dimension of geometrical parameters associated with development as well as extraction of mica from underground mines located in the Nellore district.

 Partial Method of Mining for Coal Extraction lying below Important Surface Properties protected the surface properties for the benefit of society and forest environment.

 Design of stoping parameters and support system for the extraction of Underground Metalliferous mines of HZL, HCL, MOIL, UCIL and different Cromite Mines.

 Development of New Rock Mechanics Instruments for the strata monitoring purposes which will save lot of foreign exchange and easy to acceptable to Indian Mining Industry.

Dr. A. Kushwaha has more than 30 years experience in the field of Rock Mechanics & Ground Control and Mine Design. He made notable contributions to the science of Rock Mechanics, Method of Mining and Ground Control in Coal and Metalliferous Mines. He is particularly involved in design of different mining methods for mass production technology like Continuous Miner technology, Shortwall mining, Goaf Pillar Method of Mining, Pillar Thinning and BG Method for coal mines. In Metalliferous mines, number of projects related to underground stability and design of crown and stope pillars were completed for Hindustan Limited, Limited, Moil and UCIL. He designed different stoping methods with Pest fill for Mine of HZL below open pit and with Cement Rock Fill/ Rock Fill in Kayad Mine of HZL below important surface features. Dr. Kushwaha has completed 5 Grant-in-Aid Projects sponsored by Ministry of Coal as Project Leader, Coordinator and Member and more than 200 Industry sponsored consultancy projects as Project Leader & Coordinator. He has developed a formula for designing of support system at depillaring faces in singe lift, guidelines for stability of parting between coal pillar workings in contiguous seam during depillaring and a formula for pillar design if non-coal bands are present in the coal seam. He has more than 86 research papers to his credit published in various national & international journals, seminars, symposia and workshops volumes besides a number of patents. He reviewed number of papers for International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences (IJRM) and Journal of Rock Mechanics & Tunnelling Technology (JRMTT).
