Happy New Year! I hope you all had joyous holidays with family, friends and .

We are getting closer to our 40th National Specialty. The flyer will be in the mail very soon. Since we are with three all-breed shows it is very important that you pay close attention to the hotel reservation deadline. There is a schedule of events elsewhere in the bulletin. I hope that even if you can’t attend you will support your club with an ad in our catalog or trophy do- nation. The club can only be successful if we all lend our support.

The second round ballot for 2017 judges is in the bulletin. You can vote by paper ballot or you can vote with Constant Contact. The first round about 60 of you used the CC and it is an easy and fast way to get it done before you forget about it. Don’t forget to type your name on the ballot as it will not be counted with out it.

I am sad to report that George Sikes is retiring as our delegate. I would like to thank George for all of his efforts on behalf of BFCA. George and Avanell have both been dedicated and hardworking members for many years.

The board will have a new delegate in place very soon.

Until I see you in May, happy showing. I am wishing you all many winning ribbons.

Judy

Announcing BFCA’s 2015 Agility Trial

Thanks to all of the members who helped, in numerous ways, to make last years 1st annual BFCA Sponsored All-Breed Agility Trial a smashing success. We raised approximately $3,000 for our national club. As far as agility trials go, it was a “Best in Show!”

It is almost that time of year again. The BFCA sponsored, 2nd annual All-Breed Agility Trial will be held April 24-26, 2015 in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

If you compete in agility with your Bichon, please make it your highest priority to find your way this year’s trial. While this trial is a “random draw,” all Bichons will be guaranteed entry.

We are asking for your help and involvement to make this year’s agility trial even more suc- cessful than last year’s trial. There are several ways to be involved, even if you are not an agility exhibitor. It takes 40 to 50 volunteer workers to make a smooth working trial. We can use your help at the trial itself in volunteering to help with any of the volunteer positions, i.e. ring steward, leash runner, gate steward, timer, scribe, assistant scribe, or help with vol- unteer food and snacks, set up, or tear down.

If you are not able to attend and would still like to help make this trial successful, we can definitely use donations to our “worker raffle” gifts in the $10.00 to $30.00 range. Agility trials rely on a large number of competitor volunteer workers who tend to rate a club on the quality and quantity of the raffle gifts. This is an area where we really want to shine, as it almost guarantees that workers will volunteer for our agility trial in years to come.

We will be awarding a trophy for the highest scoring bichon in trial. If you are interested in sponsoring this National BFCA trophy, please contact Shirley Hamilton.

If you are able to attend to help, want to donate a “worker raffle” gift, or are wondering how you can help even if you are unable to attend, please call or email Shirley Hamilton at 715- 259-7513 or [email protected].

Thanks in advance for your support.

To the local clubs—If your club is preparing an article for the BFCA bulletin, please remember that it should be only one page in length. Also, please send the article to me in a written form, not just random information. This would be very helpful for me.

Delegate Report

Because of health issues, I was unable to attend the December 2014 Delegates meetings and the Eukanuba National Championship. Therefore, I do not have a report. The minutes can be found and read on the AKC website.

With my resignation, I would like to thank the BFCA Board of Officers and Directors for al- lowing me to serve as the BFCA Delegate for the past 14 years.

Raffle

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is staying warm, especially the folks in the East. Lately, it’s been very cold and we finally had our first snowfall this winter.

Our National is only 4 months away and it’s that time to ask you all to do some housecleaning and think about making a generous donation to our raffle/silent auction. This year I’m sad to say that I won’t be able to attend due to work obligation. However, Paula Hendricks and Lynn Ramich, two of my very hard working friends, have agreed to oversee the event and I’m sure they will do an excellent job. So, please donate some items you may have to make this year’s fundraising effort a huge success. And please remember: proceeds from your generous do- nations are what keeps the Club thriving.

Donations can be sent to me directly at the address below or bring it along with you. Matt will be driving our RV to Topeka so he will have the space to bring the items if you choose to mail them.

My address is: 3129 Barberry Court Murrysville, PA 15668

Thank you all in advance and safe travels. I will definitely miss seeing you all this year and, of course, the white fluffs!

BICHON FRISE CLUB OF AMERICA CHARITABLE TRUST Est. 2003

Winter 2015

2014 was a busy year for rescuing Bichons. We rescued 76 Bichons and placed 75. The one Bichon we have not placed is Cuddles. She is one of the five bichons we took into rescue from a breeder who was a long time BFCA member. This breeder had a stroke and is permanently impaired. The other four bichons were placed in adopted homes. Cuddles is 14 years old and suffers from arthritis. Cuddles is in a lovely foster home and her best friend is Anaya, the 8 year old daughter of the foster.

We have and continue to do many things to raise money for rescue. We received money from the Bichon Frise Club of Southern New England, the Bichon Bash, fundraisers, Amazon smile, individual donations and money as a result of postings on our Facebook page. Our Facebook page has been a wonderful tool. We have over 4,000 people currently following it. Lynn Ramich is constantly monitoring our page, answering questions and providing helpful information. Thanks to Lynn for all the work she has done and continues to do on our Facebook page. We will continue with these fundraisers in 2015 and have ideas for a few new ones.

A new BFCACT website, www.bichonrescue.org, was created in 2014. This website has helped us immensely as a new venue to show our Bichons and an easier way for individuals to donate.

Any suggestions to help us increase our contributions for 2015 would be greatly appreciated. And, we are always looking for volunteers!

PAGE 17 BICHON FRISE CLUB OF AMERICA Committee Reports Obedience Report

I need to hear from you about your Obedience titles and scores. The way that AKC has set it up, I am unable to find out unless I already know of the dog showing. In that case, I can look up scores, etc. I am not getting any info anymore that I can easily find on the AKC web site.

I need the title of any shows you have entered and qualified in Obedience, Rally and or track- ing that occurred from January of 2014 through the end of this year and I need it to continue for the 2015 year and on since I am not getting any communication from the person that does get the AKC stats. You can also give me the dogs name and/or AKC number and then I can look up the information on another site but I am at a loss for collecting stuff so I have to rely on members,

Also, I have had a request to let people know of Bichon clubs offering Obedience at their Spe- cialties and the locations/dates. Please let me know when and where you are having your shows that offer Specialty obedience and Rally classes.
