Also seen throughout the show are the various performance venues, homes, recording studios, etc. used to tell the story of The Righteous Brothers throughout their 40-year partnership. The stage setting throughout the show is actually a “unit” set, divided into three sections. Stage left is a dressing room area. To one side of the dressing room area stands a small table with a landline telephone. At stage right is another simple room environment into which (at times) is crowded the onstage band for the show. Hung on the wall are a timeless-looking speaker and an unlit sign reading “Recording.” This space will become a variety of environments, including the Gold Star recording studio (used by Phil Spector and others). Within the stage right room, among the other instruments, stands a piano. The piano is also accessible from the center stage area. At center stage we see a nearly bare stage. Up center is a simple wall or screen stretching the full length across what will be the performance area of the Miller Auditorium and other stages on which The Righteous Brothers will perform. The up center wall (or screen) is in actuality a surface on which various scenic images and videos will be projected to create scenic environments performed in that area, as well as nostalgic video; that is, icons supporting moments in and throughout the play.
