5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS WONDERS OF SRI LANKA NEGOMBO / SIGIRIYA / KANDY / COLOMBO DAY 1 KUALA LUMPUR / COLOMBO (D) Depart at Kuala Lumpur for Colombo. Upon arrival Colombo, meet on arrival airport and leave for Negombo. Overnight stay in Negombo. DAY 2 COLOMBO-SIGIRIYA B/L/D After breakfast proceed to Sigiriya via Oinnawala. Visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala. This orphanage is the home for about 60 elephants, out of which some are baby elephants found abandoned or orphanage in the wild. They are being cared, fed and trained by the wild life authorities. The best time to visit is during the feeding times, when one will have the opportunity of seeing the baby elephants being bottle-fed. Also could accompany the elephants to a river close-by and see them having their daily bath. Optional – Climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress (Entrance fees – US$20.00 per person) which is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The “Lion Rock” is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the “Heavenly Maidens” of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster. Overnight stay in Sigiriya. DAY 3 SIGIRIYA-KANDY B/L/D After breakfast proceed to Kandy via Dambulla. Visit the Dambulla Rock Temple. Climp up to the temple, which was donated by king Walagambahu in the 1st century BC to Buddhist monks. Dambulla is a World Heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. metres of painted walls and the ceiling is the largest area of paintings found in the world, These caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock spanning 14 metres. Visit a spice garden in Matale to see the different spices, which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. Do a city tour of Kandy. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan Kinds, and is a World Heritage Site. The name Kandy conjures visions of splendour and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798. Visit the Kandy town and Bazaar, the arts & crafts centre and a gem museum and a lapidary. In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth relic and thereafter witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing. Overnight stay in Kandy. DAY 4 KANDY-COLOMBO B/L/D After breakfast proceed to Colombo via Peradeniya. Visit the Peradeniya Botanical gardens. This botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was expanded by the British, It is 147 acres in extent and provides an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers. Do a city tour of Colombo. Colombo like many capital cities in developing countries is fast changing its face. Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stool. Yet in some parts, the Old World charm is retained. As an example there is a 100 year old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Other places of interest are the old Parliament in Fort, Hindu and a Buddish temple, residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent and the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference hall – BMICH, an outright gift to Sri Lnka from the People’s Republic of China. Do a shopping tour. Visit the Ceramics Corporation showrooms, majestic City shopping complex and ODEL Unlimited Dress Boutique. Overnight stay in Colombo.     Urban Transport System Development Project for Colombo Metropolitan Region and Suburbs CoMTrans UrbanTransport Master Plan Final Report CHAPTER 4 Perspective of the Colombo Metropolitan Area 4.1 Identification of the Colombo Metropolitan Area 4.1.1 Definition The Western Province is the most developed province in Sri Lanka and is where the administrative functions and economic activities are concentrated. At the same time, forestry and agricultural lands still remain, mainly in the eastern and south-eastern parts of the province. And also, there are some local urban centres which are less dependent on Colombo. These areas have less relation with the centre of Colombo. The Colombo Metropolitan Area is defined in order to analyse and assess future transport demands and formulate a master plan. For this purpose, Colombo Metropolitan Area is defined by: A) areas that are already urbanised and those to be urbanised by 2035, and B) areas that are dependent on Colombo. In an urbanised area, urban activities, which are mainly commercial and business activities, are active and it is assumed that demand for transport is high. People living in areas dependent on Colombo area assumed to travel to Colombo by some transport measures. 4.1.2 Factors to Consider for Future Urban Structures In order to identify the CMA, the following factors are considered. These factors will also define the urban structure, which is described in Section 4.3. An effective transport network will be proposed based on the urban structure as well as the traffic demand. At the same time, the new transport network proposed will affect the urban structure and lead to urban development.

This world heritage site, consists of the remains of a palace on the top of the rock, a mid-level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes of the 'Heavenly Maidens', the lower palace on the slopes below the rock, and the moats, walls and water gardens that extend for some hundreds of metres out from the base. Thereafter travel to Minneriya for the National Park safari. Located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa, the 8,890 hectares of Minneriya National Park consists of mixed evergreen forest and scrub areas and is home to favorites such as sambar deer, leopards and elephants. However the central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank (built in 3rd century AD by King Mahasena).
