Born and raised in Manchester, Fury weighed just 1lb at birth after being born three months premature. His father John named him after Mike Tyson. From Irish traveller heritage, the“Gypsy King” is undefeated in 28 professional fights, winning 27 with 19 knockouts, and drawing once. His most famous victory came in 2015, when he stunned longtime champion Wladimir Klitschko to win the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight titles. He was forced to vacate the belts because of issues with drugs, alcohol and mental health, and did not fight again for more than two years. Most thought he was done with boxing forever. Until an amazing comeback fight with Deontay Wilder in December 2018. It was an instant classic, ending in a split decision tie. Outside of the ring, Tyson Fury is a mental health ambassador. He donated his million dollar purse from the Deontay Wilder fight to the homeless. This book is dedicated to the cause of mental health awareness.

  • World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Denies Doping
World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Denies Doping British world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has vehemently denied doping allegations after the Sunday Mirror reported he was being investigated by UK Anti- Doping. The Sunday Mirror reported that traces of a banned anabolic steroid were "allegedly discovered" in a sample taken from Fury before he beat Wladimir Klitschko last year. The newspaper reported unacceptable levels of Nandrolone were found in the sample. The 27-year-old caused a big upset when he beat Klitschko on a unanimous decision in November to inflict the 40-year-old Ukrainian©s first loss in 11 years. In a statement issued by the boxer©s promoter Hennessy Sports, it was said that Tyson Fury absolutely denies any allegation of doping. It was further added the British world heavyweight champion looks forward to recovering from his injury and defending his titles against Wladimir Klitschko in October. Tyson was expected to take on Klitschko again on July 9 in the Manchester Arena but the fight was postponed due to a serious ankle injury. Fury headed out to a bar in the French city of Nice instead of keeping a low profile after the doping allegations hit headlines where he bought drinks for a bar crammed with English football fans. Hughie Fury, also a boxer and a cousin of Tyson, is also reportedly under investigation. Tyson could lose his title belts and face a lengthy ban, if found guilty. Both Fury and his cousin have denied any wrongdoing. Sophie Ashcroft, a spokesperson for UK Anti-Doping (UKAD), said UK Anti-Doping does not discuss or disclose details of any cases until due legal process has been completed or a respondent chooses to put the information into the public domain.

More importantly, the Hall is the institution of record for rewarding meritorious service in the sweet science – the honor-bestower to which inductees keep returning in Canastota, New York every June. Because fighters’ careers are fluid, shifts can be sudden and settled law is open to smudging at a later date, there are few foregone conclusions among active IBHOF candidates-in-waiting. The list: Manny Pacquiao, Roman Gonzalez, Nonito Donaire, Terence Crawford, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Canelo Alvarez. That’s it. But what of the rest? Which other current fighters have a shot? RINGSIDE SEAT 2018 FIGHTER OF THE YEAR Oleksandr Usyk By William Dettloff Editor-in-Chief number of factors conspired against Oleksandr Usyk achieving anything of popular note in 2018. Chief among them: He campaigned at cruiserweight, a weight class which, in the United States at least, is largely ignored, if not outright belittled, for, among other things, the ambiguous nature of its very name (what size, exactly, is a “cruiser?”); most of the Awork was undertaken in participation with the World Boxing Super Series, which went untelevised and consequently under-promoted in the U.S.; and he sports a space between his two front teeth large enough to accommodate the navigation of a mini-van or some other such large, soul-crushing vehicle. Over the course of the year he bested Mairis Briedis, (W12), Murat Gassiev (W12) and Tony Bellew (KO 8), in the process unifying all 117 cruiserweight “world” titles available to men who weigh 190 pounds or there- abouts during the 10-second or so period when they step on a scale the day prior to fighting.
