Elected councillors from Aberdeenshire Council normally also attend our meetings which are open to all. A list of community councillors and scheduled meeting dates is included in the newsletter. This newsletter would not be possible without the support of the companies who advertise in it, so please consider them when thinking of making a purchase. The Gallowshill Sports Hub in Newburgh is available to all in our community, including Foveran, Udny Station, and Cultercullen, and offers, Amateur Football, Youth Football for both boys and Girls, as well as Netball, and Tennis. Aberdeenshire Council are still considering whether to implement traffic calming in Newburgh, however, will resurface the road between Knockhall Rd and School Rd. Dog Fouling unfortunately is on the increase in all our communities, can dog owners / Walkers, please clean up after their dogs, and please dispose of the bags properly, not just throw the bag in bushes. Following on from the Grant from Hill of Fiddes towards Christmas motifs for Newburgh that meet Aberdeenshire Councils latest specifications, I will have 6 motifs going spare. These are all in good working order. They are NOT suitable for mounting on lampposts, but have fixings suitable for example for wall mounting outsides hall etc. Should Foveran, Udny Station, or Cultercullen want any, then please let me know, First come first served. NEWBURGH Nicer Newburgh Gardening Group First of all, we would like to thank the generous people who have made donations to the Nicer Newburgh Gardening Group over the last three months. The money helps us cover the cost of maintenance and materials that the group needs. The 2,400 crocus planted by the group last autumn have added to the display on the embankment by the school field and are currently in flower (beginning of March). Whilst the crocus are in flower we have taken, and noted measurements, so that we know where to carry on planting from later this year, as they obviously will not be visible when planting time arrives (Sept/Oct). We are hoping to buy a further 2,000 corms to complete the coverage of the entire length of the embankment. During this winter, we have been busy weeding, and forking beds and moving and pruning plants, as necessary. A number of additional plants have been sourced from Aberdeenshire Council, and are in the process of being planted to boost coverage around the links play area. In the middle of January a very high tide, coupled with strong winds meant that the water over-topped the coastal defence by the side of the estuary at the north end of the village, washing stone from the path and debris across the grass and on to the beds. A large amount of work has been carried out to remedy this damage and hopefully it will be fully restored in the coming few weeks. Earlier this month we made a successful application for a grant from the Hill of Fiddes Community Fund for £446.79, for which we are very grateful. This money is to cover the cost of 70 hardy geraniums which we are hoping will, in time, provide a long-lasting display of colour at the south entrance to the village. Once again, this year, Aberdeenshire Council have raised the issue of the cost of providing free bedding plants to community groups. We will continue to seek possible alternatives to the annual summer bedding provided by the Council, just in case they decide to withdraw this benefit to the local communities. The hardy geraniums which have been purchased will be assessed to decide whether they would be a credible alternative. The group has in the past produced up to 2,600 summer flowering annuals each year themselves, but we would like to reduce this work load to a degree, as we are not getting any younger! NEWBURGH Hello Friends, Well Christmas and New Year have been and gone and I hope Santa was good to you, but what about the weather, bet that wasn't on your Christmas wish list. Once again Newburgh SWI has had some good nights. Flowers were the order of the evening in November when one of our members, Janet Campbell, displayed her talents with winter floral arrangements including a beautiful arrangement in red for a table centre and a lovely and unusual small arrangement set in oasis in a Christmas Cracker. In December we once again went to the pantomime in Ellon. This year it was Peter Pan, and up to the excellent standard the Church Drama always present. Before being entertained, we once again had a lovely high tea in the New Inn , always an enjoyable feast. January was a Members Evening and took the form of Sing, Say, Play or Pay (the 'Pay' being for those members who preferred to hide their lights under a bushel!) Contributions ranged from recipes for delicious fudge and a white chocolate torte. Several jokes and funny stories, poems, a monologue, a sketch, Christmas Fairy and the beautiful singing of a lovely hymn. When everyone had displayed their talents a much needed and very nice cuppa and biscuits went down well. Mrs Katherine Hyman came along to show us the art of 'Book Folding' in February. This aroused everybody's curiosity, how do you fold a book? was the question. All was revealed as pages were folded in a special but simple way then opened out to make a lovely hedgehog. We all got the chance for hands folding, which was enjoyed by all. Katherine even brought eyes, noses, ears and tails to stick on and we all took home a cute little hedgehog. This can be done with most book sizes and more accomplished folders can create other shapes by cutting the finished folding. On a desk the hedgehogs can hold pens or letters. This month, unfortunately, our speaker did not arrive, so after the normal business, Sheila Moir conducted a short quiz which caused a lot of hilarity, and then members sat round the tables, and enjoyed a cup of tea and biscuits and a 'good old natter'. April is the Annual Business Meeting, and the speaker for May is Mr John Lemon, and his subject is 'Haddo Babies, should be very interesting. If you think that you would like to come along and meet us and enjoy an evening being entertained and in good company, don't forget We meet in the Village Hall the first Tuesday of every month, and notices are always around the village to tell you what will be happening.

When the Church of Scotland deposited its records in Edinburgh, a decision was made that where there were suitable repositories, local records would be held in their area of origin. As a result, Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives was designated as a suitable repository and various records were returned to the city. Microfilm copies of the majority of the original volumes can be viewed in the National Archives in Edinburgh. All Church of Scotland records begin with the reference CH2 followed by the number allocated to that particular church. For example, St Nicholas is referenced 448, therefore the full reference number for the records of the St Nicholas Kirk Session is CH2/448 followed by the item number. If you wish to look at any of the records, please note the reference number (this always starts with CH2 for records relating to the Church of Scotland) and take care to ensure the record you wish to view covers the correct dates. You do not need to note the description of the item, only the reference, but please ensure you have identified the correct item.

    August 2019 Newsletter Firstly, thanks very much to you all for your interest and joining Grampian Cycle Partnership! We have been overwhelmed by the many really kind and supportive comments we have received to date. We are absolutely committed to working positively for cycling across the north east. GCP truly believe we can encourage more people to take up cycling or cycle more by working constructively together with the army of committed and enthusiastic people already doing some fantastic pieces of work across the City, Shire and Moray. Over the last few months, GCP has been meeting with partners and other stakeholders on several projects as well as being involved in ongoing cycling issues for the region. We are taking this time to review what’s going on and tell you what we have been up to. We genuinely think it’s an exciting time for cycling in the area and GCP’s partners have been at the forefront. Please find below some information on what we’ve been involved with so far. Westhill to Aberdeen cycle path An initial open meeting was held with cyclists who use this path to discuss the issues and set up a working project group to document these issues and work with the councils to develop the improvements to this important corridor. This cycle path continues to be among the busiest routes in the whole of the north east. Stonehaven to Aberdeen cycle path At our last meeting we committed to form a similar group for the links to and from the City from the south.
