Sparrowbroughton I Will Sing to the Lord, Because He Has Dealt Bountifully with Me Carolyn SparrowBroughton I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me. Psalm 13:6 These songs have blossomed out of thoughts and realizations from years of living a cross-cultural, transient life. I’ve recorded a few songs in the past, but this is my first original album on this scale, and even just agreeing with God to start the process was So I sit down, with my pencil Moving again, and I’m questioning a huge step of faith. I recorded the whole thing when I was nine months pregnant And an empty notebook page How to find rest in this sojourning with our daughter, Ruby Grace. The title track especially captures my relief at being And I smile as I write down I just don’t have the strength able to tuck my most precious treasures - my children - under God’s wings and trust All the ways I see Your grace You say I am blessed if I trust in You Him to be our home. My prayer as you listen is that God Himself will draw near and A child’s smile, a bird in flight You say I am blessed if my strength is in You speak to your heart, and that His presence and peace will become tangibly yours. The shape of trees against the sky But I’m traveling, traveling The smell of spring, the endless sea And it’s hard to see Your hand Carolyn Broughton A friend to share a cup of tea Even the swallow finds a nest The fragile moon, the sound of rain Where she may lay her young So we do not lose heart The way a loved one says my name Even the sparrow finds a home Tent Though outwardly wasting away Each simple gift, each little thing At the altars of the Living God 2 Cor. 4:16-5:9 So we do not lose heart Reveals Your love to me We’re being renewed day by day I am Your sparrow In1 this tent we groan, this is not our home So I’m counting all the ways You love me And I’ll make You my home We’re just a-passing through And this slight, momentary affliction Counting all Your gifts I will live in You Sojourners, me and you Is preparing for us I’m counting all the ways You tell me Tuck my treasures underneath Your wings In this tent we groan, waiting for our home An eternal weight of glory I was made for this: You’ll be my roof Waiting, longing Beyond compare... To live within Your love My walls, windows and floor For a house not made with hands You’ll be my permanence You are here, God, I can feel You My white picket fence Moment by moment One Thousand I can touch You with my hand And my backyard swing We build on what was laid 2 Gifts In the middle of each moment The foundation whose name is Jesus Christ inspired by Ann Voskamp’s You are the Great I AM From place to place all over this globe Now we see dimly, but when it’s face to face book by the same name You’ve led us far and wide How will we answer for our lives? And I sometimes feel the strain For we walk by faith, not by sight Are you there, God? I can’t hear You But I’m holding on to Your promises Are You whispering to me? Sparrow Holding on to what You said This is not our home In the middle of this messy life Psalm 84 That those who give up everything Our lives are but a breath Draw near and speak to me 3 Will receive a hundredfold It will all pass away, so every single day To me, a white picket fence symbolizes We can choose to build with gold Cause I’m counting all the ways You love Me security and an ideal home, and a For a day in Your courts is better than Or choose to build with hay Counting all Your gifts backyard swing is one of the little added A thousand anywhere else Hay will burn, but gold will remain I’m counting all the ways I see You touches you can have if you live in Bless me as I live one place. God is all of that for us! You are the Living God Each moment in Your love Then will I lift my eyes Teach me the song of the Redeemed Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow? Perfect Peace To the Maker of the skies That I might stand and sing to broken hearts Tell it to Jesus Isaiah 26:3-4 To the One who said Lead me through that lonely place 4 “I’ll never leave your side” That I might weep with those who weep Are you troubled at the thought of dying? • The Knucklehead Gospels
The Knucklehead Gospels A Simple Faith 2021 By Arnulfo D. Ayala 1 The Knucklehead Gospels A Simple Faith 2021 Foreword I was ordained a permanent deacon in the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Angelo, Texas in 2004, but I was introduced to prison ministry in the fall of 2000, working as a volunteer at a Kairos retreat at the Lynaugh Unit in Ft Stockton, Texas. From my first visit to the prison, I knew this is where God called me to serve. Many people have no knowledge of or experience with the prison system, so they have a great misconception of the individuals who reside behind those walls. Some may think that people in prison have no value and don’t deserve a second chance. I can firmly attest that in ministering to our incarcerated brothers and sisters, I have witnessed the power of God working through many of these gifted humans. It has been transformational for me and has helped me to deepen my relationship with Christ. I am blessed to be able to call them my brothers and sisters. I first met, Arnulfo, the author of this book in 2016 while serving in prison ministry for the Archdiocese of San Antonio. He, along with a core group of devoted Catholic men, are in the maximum-security prison. They have each had a profound experience at a Kolbe Catholic retreat and decided to dedicate their lives to Christ: praying, studying, and working tirelessly to be better men and to inspire their fellow inmates to do the same. I soon realized that Arnulfo, a self-confessed Knucklehead, had the talent, the faith, the experience, and the humility to help other incarcerated men find a way to walk in God’s light in this dark place.

I’m an assistant manager at Walmart and usually when I’m not working or hanging out with friends I go shopping or just drive around to see new places. Amber Hook Amber Hook, 29 years old, is a resident of Milesburg, PA. Presently, she is a hair stylist at SmartSyle Salon in the North Atherton WalMart. Amber has been singing since the young age of 2 years old. Growing up, Amber listened to Country music, and to this day she is still a fan. Country is her karaoke “go to”. She also enjoys a wide variety of other musical genres, including rock and pop. Amber's musical inspiration doesn't come from any one artist, but it comes from within her. “My musical inspiration comes from how I feel, and if I can relate to a song and put myself in it”. Amber enjoys singing because, in her words, “Most of the time I can't tell you how I feel, but I can sing you a song. Most of the time, it hits the nail on the head!” As to what she hopes to gain from being a part of the competition, Amber hopes to grow more as an artist, how to breathe better, and how to open up more.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Hip-hop, Streetdance, and the Remaking of the Global Filipino by Jeffrey Lorenzo Perillo Doctor of Philosophy in Culture and Performance University of California, Los Angeles, 2013 Professor Susan Leigh Foster, Committee Co-Chair Professor Victor Bascara, Committee Co-Chair New York-based African American, Latino, and Caribbean immigrant youth of the 1960s and early 1970s gave life to one of the world's major contemporary cultural movements: Hip-hop. Initially misunderstood as a faddish form of Black male musical expression, Hip-hop's cultural resistance practices were quickly recognized as four core elements (emceeing, turntablism, graffiti art, and b-boying/b-girling). In the global context, Hip-hop has generated scholarly discourse that points to either the cultural globalization of American Blackness or a "global village." My project interrupts this conversation and focuses on the unique, multi-site cultural history of Filipino identity as constituted through practitioners of Hip-Hop dance. My work argues that a community of Filipinos, situated in different geo-political loci—Berkeley, California, Honolulu, Hawai‘i, and Manila, Philippines—configure prevailing concepts of Hip-hop while remaking conditions of ! ii dispossession and displacement in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

Long ago the maids drew water Ask what you will and it shall be done; In the evening time, they say Trust and obey, believe Him and say: One day Isaac sent his servant I believe, I believe God. Young and old, repent of all your sin, Reach out and touch the Lord The Holy Ghost will surely enter in; As He goes by, The evening Light has come, You'll find He's not too busy, It is a fact that God and Christ are one.
