GAME PREVIEW For the first time in eight days, your Mooseheads are back on home ice this afternoon at Scotiabank Centre when they host the Cape Breton Eagles. Halifax sits at 8-12-3-3 on the season and are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Charlotte- town on Friday night. The Eagles also visited PEI this weekend and are fresh off a lopsided 8-2 loss yesterday to drop to 10-13-0-0 for the season. This is the ninth meeting of the season between the provincial foes and the Herd holds the slight upper-hand with a 4-3-1-0 record in the season series. WHY YES, HE’S BACK Defenceman Cam Whynot makes his return to the lineup after getting hurt last weekend against Charlottetown. He left the game with a lower body injury and took the week to recover. His return is good timing for the Moose consid- ering how badly beaten up the blueline is. Halifax suffered another loss on defense earlier this week when Brendan Tomilson broke his collar bone and is sidelined for about six weeks. He joins fellow defencemen Keegan Hunt and Alexandre Tessier on the injured list. Forward Senna Peeters will need at least another week of recovery before making his return.
1ST CAPTAIN Big news out of New Jersey yesterday afternoon as the Devils announced Nico Hischier as their new Captain. Nico becomes the first former Mooseheads player to represent an NHL team as a Captain and at age 22 he is the young- est Captain in the National Hockey League. That’s an impressive feat for the young star. Watching how he handled himself on and off the ice here in Halifax a few years ago, it was easy to see his leadership qualities as he is not only a great hockey player but an incredible person. Congrats Nico.
MULTIPLE LOTTERY PICKS? Since the QMJHL has gone to winning percentage for the standings, the Mooseheads find themselves in last place in the Maritimes Division. If they finish in the bottom eight teams overall this season then they retain their 1st round pick from the Ostap Safin trade and Saint John would receive the 2022 Halifax 1st rounder. The Mooseheads also own Moncton 1st round pick in June which could also be a high selection. GM Cam Russell could have a chance at adding two more extremely talented players to the mix in Moose Country.
