ALABAMA STATE/SWAC • This will be just the second meeting all-time as the two teams first squared off on Dec. 22, 2015 at the Winthrop Coliseum • The Eagles won the first meeting 92-84 • This will be just the third contest for the Eagles against a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference • The only other meeting against a SWAC team came Mar. 16, 2010 in Dayton, OH as the Eagles took on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the NCAA Tournament Opening Round (Winthrop lost the game 61-44) TEAM NEWS • Winthrop is 5-4 looking for a 4th win in the last five games • Eagles return to action after a 10-day break without games as the players completed their fall semester with final exams • Winthrop fell 87-82 at Georgia in its last game, ending a three-game win streak • Despite the loss, the Eagles have now scored 80 or more points in a school record seven straight contests • The game did end a streak of games scoring 85 or more points at a school record six games in a row • Eagles defeated Furman by 19 points, which is the highest margin of victory in a non-conference road win under Kelsey • In fact, it’s the largest margin of victory in a non-conference road game since the Eagles beat Georgia 80-60 (+20), Dec. 9, 2003 • The 20-point win at Georgia stands as the program’s record for margin of victory over a non-conference D1 opponent on the road • Against South Carolina State the Eagles received 40-plus points from their bench for a fifth straight game as the bench is currently con- tributing 37.5 points per game • When playing games on Dec. 16 the Eagles are 4-5 all-time but 2-4 on the road • Anders Broman and Bjorn Broman became the 9th brother combination in the history of the Big South and currently rank 6th all-time in total points combined (830) • Winthrop allowed a school-record 119 points in the loss at Auburn (Previous record was 113 set Nov. 18, 1978 vs. Gardner-Webb and Jan. 2, 1994 at #14 Connecticut) • Auburn finished the game shooting 62 percent from the field, which is the first time the Eagles have allowed an opponent to shoot 60% or better since Feb. 26, 2014 in a 107-100 overtime win over UNC Asheville • It was just the sixth time under Pat Kelsey that an opponent shot 60 percent or better • The 58 first half points allowed and the 61 in the second half were both highs for opponents under Kelsey • The Eagles hit 13 threes in the loss while Auburn knocked down 14, which was the first time the Eagles lost a game under Kelsey when both teams hit 10 or more threes in a game • Eagles held Mars Hill to 21 percent shooting, which becomes the lowest a Kelsey led team has held an opponent (24 percent vs.
