April 9, 2021 Dear North Creek Families, I hope your family has been able to enjoy some of the sunny weather this week! Our students transitioned back from the break well and we are ready to finish the year strong over the next several weeks. Health and Safety Please continue to keep your child home if he/she has any symptoms of illness, has been exposed to someone as a close contact or if your child and/or a family member are waiting for Covid test results. We appreciate that our families have been extremely cautious this year. Book Fair Back by popular demand, we are having a Book Fair April 12 - 16th. Students who are in the building will have an opportunity to visit the media center. We’re also offering an online Book Fair for our all virtual families. Online ordering takes place from April 4 - 17th. Thank you for supporting our Book Fairs! When we host Book Fairs, our media center earns money to purchase new books. Phasing Into Additional Days of Face to Face Instruction We are looking forward to returning to full face-to-face instruction during the week of April 19. Please keep in mind that the District will continue to monitor health and safety data and numbers and use the phase-in ladder protocol to determine this return. Once we return to face-to-face instruction, all classes, aside from the Virtual classrooms, will be back to teaching face to face and no longer use Zoom! Health and Safety Reminders Students in the building will wear masks all day, with the exception of while they are eating. The health screener (which can be found on the CSD website and app) needs to be completed for your child each day prior to your child entering the building. Arrival & Dismissal You can expect the pick up and drop off at North Creek to take a LONG time, especially as we make this transition. Safety for our students and staff is our first priority. Little ones move slowly and need a lot of assistance as they enter and exit the building. Please keep in mind that the number of students being dropped off and picked up will double - which means double the time for the process. We will need all families to be on time and patient as you wait. IMPORTANT ARRIVAL CHANGE FOR CAR DROP OFF: Starting on April 19, car drop off will take place in the back of the building. We will use the same process as we do for dismissal. We have more space in the back lot for cars to wait in line. Parents should pull up to the curb along the back of the building and a when you are in the “UNLOADING ZONE” a staff member will open the car door to greet your child. PLEASE DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILD OFF WHERE THERE ARE NO STAFF MEMBERS and tell them to walk up alone. With so many vehicles moving, it is not safe for the children to walk unattended. Dismissal will still take place in the back as it has been all year. However, please know that it will definitely take much longer since we are doubling the amount of traffic. What to Bring If your child is returning to the building for the first time on April 19, he/she should wear a mask (not the gaiter style) and bring an extra clean mask in a plastic bag labeled with his/her first and last name. Your child should also bring a water bottle filled with water, as drinking fountains are still closed for health and safety reasons. Please make sure it is a water bottle that he/she can manage independently. Plan for Absences/Vacations When we return to full face to face instruction, our classroom teachers will not continue to Zoom on a daily basis. Their focus will be on teaching the students in the room. If your child is sick (for non covid related reasons) or you are on vacation, it will be treated like an absence in a normal year and your child will not Zoom in for instruction. Plan for Students Who Are Quarantined If the district or a medical professional determines that your child needs to be quarantined and he/she is feeling well enough to do school, he/she will be able to access instruction with their class via Zoom. Help Needed Lunch Helpers - In order to keep our students safe during lunch when we have more students in the building, we need additional lunch helpers to supervise students. Please reach out to Marcus Kaemming, our Superintendent of Human Resources, and me if you are interested in applying as a lunch helper at North Creek. The hours are Monday - Thursday from 10:45 - 12:45. Paraprofessionals - Making this transition also means we need additional paraprofessional support for our special education students since our students will be attending school additional days. We are hoping to hire 2 additional paraprofessionals. Please reach out to Marcus Kaemming, our Superintendent of Human Resources, and me if you are interested in applying for a paraprofessional position at North Creek. Safety Town Returns Good news! Safety Town is returning this summer. This beloved program is not only an important experience to teach safety to the children of our community. It’s also a Chelsea tradition. Since the current Young 5 and Kindergarten students missed this opportunity last summer, we are offering 2 sessions. One of Young 5 and Kindergarten students who are entering North Creek in the fall of 2021 and one for the students who are currently in Young 5 and Kindergarten. Chelsea Elementary PTO The Chelsea Elementary PTO is looking to fill board positions for the 2021-2022 school year! If you are looking for a way to be more involved with the school and would like to join our fun and creative PTO please contact the PTO president, Jessica Federico, at [email protected]!
