Horn & Bruintjies Set Best Times In Karlsruhe

Carina Horn and Henricho Bruintjies both managed to run personal best times at the IAAF Karlsruhe Meeting in Germany on Saturday night.

Horn (Tuks/HPC) ran 7.20 seconds in the 60m final, equalling her best time ran in last year. Bruintjies ran the men‟s 60m final in 6.64s. On Wednesday night in Dusseldorf Bruintjies ran 6.65s.

Dafne Schippers (), gold medallist in the 200m and silver medallist in the 100m at last year‟s World Championships in , won the women‟s race in 7.08s. Barbara Pierre (USA) was second in 7.09s and Britain‟s national record holder over 100m, Dina Asher-Smith, was third in 7.11s. Horn finished 7th.

The men‟s 60m was won by Mike Rodgers (USA), a former Olympic and World Championships medallist, in a time of 6.52s. Kim Collins (Saint Kitts and Nevis), a former 100m world champion, was second in 6.54s and Trell Kimmons (USA) third in 6.58s. Bruintjies was 8th.

Horn is „sort of OK‟ with her race.

“The fact that I managed to equal my best time means that I must be doing something right, but I know I am capable of running a faster time. I guess I just need to be patient and focus on doing the small things correctly, then the fast times will happen,” said Horn who ran 7.27s in Dusseldorf on Wednesday.

The Tuks/HPC athlete‟s next indoor race will be in Berlin on Saturday. She will also be in action in Manchester on 20 February.

“Indoor athletics is „crazy‟ exciting. Not only is it intense but it is also very hard racing. The results prove it. I ran a personal best time of 6.64 seconds, which is a world championships qualifying time, but I still only finished 8th,” is what Bruintjies wrote on Facebook.

Hennie Kriel, who coaches Bruintjies, is satisfied.

“The only reason why Henricho is competing indoors is to gain international experience. He has got to learn how to handle pressure in big races. Indoor athletics is a hard learning school for him, because he is competing against some of the world‟s top sprinters,” said Kriel.

Bruintjies will also be in action in Berlin.
