These two Canadians have made Canada proud. They are known as sport champions in the world. One of them is a hockey player and the other is an athlete. Subban” is a professional Canadian ice hockey player. He is a famous NHL player (National Hockey League). Subban plays defence. He was born May 13, 1989 in Toronto. P.K.’s career in hockey started at a very early age when he learned to skate. P.K.’s dad, Karl also known as “Big Karl”, came to Canada from Jamaica. His mother, Maria also known as “Mama Subban”, came to Canada from Montserrat. P.K. has four siblings: : Nastassia, Natasha, Jordan, and Malcolm. Hockey is a family sport for the Subbans. Malcom, Jordan, and P.K. all played for the Belleville Bulls in their junior hockey careers. The Belleville Bulls is a junior ice hockey team in Ontario. Malcolm is a goalie and was chosen to play for the Boston Bruins in 2012. Jordan was chosen to play for the Vancouver Canucks in 2013. In 2007, P.K. was chosen to play for the Montreal Canadiens hockey team. In 2016, he was traded to play for the Nashville Predators. Even though he no longer plays for the Montreal Canadiens, he still keeps in touch with his fans. In 2015, he made a huge donation to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. His foundation, will give $10 million to the hospital over 7 years. In recognition of this donation, the hospital named its atrium in honour of P.K. Subban. Donovan Bailey One of the greatest sprinters of all time, Donovan Bailey, was an Olympic athlete who won gold medals for Canada at the 1996 Summer Olympics. At the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, Georgia, he won the men’s 100m race in record time – 9.84 seconds. He was also a part of the relay team that won a gold medal. This is the team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics. The team members are (from left to right) Robert Esmie, Bruny Surin, Donovan Bailey, and Glenroy Gilbert. He moved to Canada in 1981 when he was 13 years old. During high school he played basketball. He took up sprinting seriously as a sport in 1994, when he was 27 years old. In 1995, he won the 100m sprint and 4x100m relay titles at the World Track and Field Championships in Sweden.
