Coaching Staff 33 100 Years of Bulldog Football: A Tradition Since 1907 OLIVER “BUDDY” POUGH Head Football Coach One of the premier coaches in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, South Carolina State head coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough continues to keep the Bulldogs among the MEAC elite. A veteran coach who has enjoyed success at every level, Pough hopes to direct the Bulldogs to a second MEAC title under his tutelage this season and a trip to the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) playoffs for the first time in over two decades. Since taking over the reigns at his alma mater five years ago, Pough has turned the Bulldogs into perennial contenders for the MEAC crown and in Division I-AA. The SC State alum has compiled a five-year 40-17 overall record and a 29- 10 MEAC worksheet, with just three conference losses the last two seasons. SC State was 7-4 overall and finished tied for second in the MEAC with a 6- 2 record in 2006. Pough posted a winning record in his first season --7-5 overall record and a 4-4 in the MEAC – and has had a winning campaign in each of his five seasons. In 2003, he guided the Bulldogs to an 8-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in MEAC play, losing only to Hampton and Bethune-Cookman. The team’s effort left the Bulldogs in a three-way tie for second place in the MEAC final standings. The 2004 season was arguably one of the team’s best under Pough, as the Bulldogs produced the first of two consecutive 9-2 seasons.

  • Bailey: ‘Barring Any Setbacks, I’Ll Be out There’
Bailey: ‘Barring Any Setbacks, I’ll Be Out There’ By Stuart Zaas DenverBroncos.com November 27, 2013 Cornerback Champ Bailey talked about his status for this week’s game at Kansas City. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – After missing the past four games with a foot injury, cornerback Champ Bailey feels he’s getting closer to making his return this week at Kansas City. Bailey sat out the first five games of the season with a foot injury before reinjuring the foot at Indianapolis in Week 7. The patience required to let the foot heal is something that hasn’t come easily for the 15th-year veteran. “That’s the hardest thing for me,” Bailey said. “Any time something goes wrong, I want to be in there to try to help. But, I have to make sure I take care of my body. The foot is feeling a lot better. I’m going to keep progressing through the week to make sure that I’m ready for Sunday.” Bailey returned to practice on Wed., Nov. 13 and has been limited in each session since. He was listed as doubtful for the Week 11 game versus Kansas City and then questionable for Week 12 at New England. This week, he said his prognosis could be more positive. “I feel like barring any setbacks, I’ll be out there," Bailey said. "That’s the way I’m preparing myself this week – to play. And if nothing goes wrong, I’ll be there.” Bailey has been listening to the doctors’ advice as well as his own body as he rehabilitates the foot.

CAROLINACAROLINA----CLEMSONCLEMSON MEMORIES We contacted several Gamecock players to ask what they remembered from their games against the Tigers and what follows is thoughts from 70 former players that cover games from 1964 through 2011. 1964 The Gamecocks fell behind early as Clemson kicker Frank Pearce made a 25-yard field goal to go up 3-0, a lead that held up into the fourth quarter when the Tigers marched to the Carolina half yard line. The Gamecock defense, led by linebacker Pete DiVinere stopped Clemson on the first three tries and on fourth down Tiger fullback Pat Crain fumbled and USC’s Joe Komoroski recovered at the seven. Backup quarterback Jim Rogers, playing because Dan Reeves was out with an injury, made his first big play on the ensuing drive with a 45-yard pass to end J.R. Wilburn that moved to the Clemson 15, then with just 3:19 left Rogers ran 12 yards for the go- ahead score. Jack McCathern’s extra point was the final score of the 7-3 win. Randy Harbour, Tight End/OffensivEnd/Offensivee Tackle, 19641964----6666 - 1964– I blew a comeback block on the off-side defensive end who came in and spun Jim Rogers around (as he was looking to pass to the right side) and he saw nothing but green grass and ran it in for the only TD of the game. Pete D and the D held on for a 7-3 win at Clemson. I always tell Jim that I made him a Gamecock Legend for life” 1965 Linebacker Bob Gunnels achieved his place in the rivalry history, as he broke up a two-point conversion pass with 40 seconds left to give Carolina a 17-16 win.
