SANTA ARRIVES BY CHAIRLIFT FOR WINTERGREEN’S BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS FAMILY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION WINTERGREEN, Va. (Dec. 9, 2014) - Wintergreen Resort anticipates Santa’s arrival via chairlift at Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountain destination this holiday season. With his big sack overflowing with merriment and good cheer, the Jolly Old Elf will make his annual rounds, handing out candy while swishing on the ski slopes, visiting Ridgely’s Fun Park, and riding Wintergreen’s signature snow tubing Plunge. Snow-packed Wintergreen Mountain will be open to snow sport enthusiast of all ages! Downhill skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and tubing at The Plunge will provide just some of the holiday thrills. A festive concert and sing-a-long at The Gristmill located at the Mountain Inn will feature storyteller and folk musician Bill Wellington, Saturday, December 20. The program will include favorite songs and stories from various holiday traditions, plus some of Wellington's original songs. Funny and entertaining, the fast- paced program is great for the entire family. Wellington is a nationally-known family entertainer famous for his Radio WOOF recordings, winner of the Parents' Choice Gold Award. Mrs. Claus and a few of Santa’s talented elves will host a complimentary cookie-decorating evening in the Crawford Room, Sunday, Dec. 23. Copper Mine Bistro will host a Christmas Eve Buffet and Devils Grill will serve an a la carte dinner, Dec. 24 from 5-9 p.m. For reservations at The Copper Mine Bistro, call 434-325-8090. For Devils Grill 434- 325-8100. A nondenominational Christmas Eve worship service will be held in the ballroom, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. Refreshments will follow the service. Christmas Day celebrations will span the mountain, providing resort guests a full array of activities and inviting dining and shopping opportunities. The Copper Mine Bistro will feature a special Christmas Day dinner from 4-8 p.m. On the menu are oyster stew, pan seared duck breast with dried current sauce, and crab and lobster cakes with roasted red pepper sauce. Creative guests can build and race vehicles made solely from cardboard and duct tape. The race starts at Ridgely’s Fun Park and prizes will be awarded for the fastest, most creative, and best design, Dec. 26. New Year’s Eve fireworks will explode high above Wintergreen’s snowy slopes to welcome in 2015. The evening promises plenty of celebrating with parties planned for children, teens and adults. An elegant New Year’s Eve in the Commonwealth Ballroom includes passed hors d’oeuvres, served dinner, and a deliciously tempting dessert buffet. The Adrian Duke Project, a six-piece band, will play dance music from Rock n Roll to Motown. A champagne toast at midnight will be raised to the New Year, family and friends. Champagne specials to toast the occasion will be available. Then dance until midnight to the classic tunes of Joe Pettus and the Soul Shakers. The trio of Steve Kohrherr, Rob Kurtz, and Michael Bertoni play acoustic rhythm and blues with an Appalachian flair featuring songs from Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, Townes van Zant, The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, and more. A special New Year’s Eve menu will be featured serving pan seared rockfish, bacon wrapped filet and more. Call 434-325-8100 for reservations. Discovery Ridge Adventure Center welcomes teens ages 13-17 for a New Year’s Eve countdown complete with X Box, Wii, photo booth, mechanical bull, and refreshments. Prizes will be awarded during hourly competitions. Treehouse Kids New Year's Eve Party is planned for children ages 4-12, with games, movies and popcorn, party favors, pizza and ice cream. DJ music sets up on the Blue Ridge Terrace and live entertainment at The Edge will feature tunes from Southern Company playing Led Zeppelin to Johnny Cash and everything in between. Skiing and riding will close at 9 p.m. for the brilliant 22-minute Fireworks show at 10! Reservations are required for most activities and fees vary.
