Available on Amazon and other online retailers. Alas, no demos of Goin Back, So Much Love, Don't Forget About Me, or I Can't Make It Alone...and many other Goffin/King songs Dusty recorded. The Legendary Demos is a compilation album by pop rock artist Carole King. It was released on April 24, 2012 on Hear Music. The album contains thirteen demo recordings, ranging in time from "Crying in the Rain" (1962) to six tracks that appeared on King's 1971 hit album Tapestry.[1] Track listing "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin) "So Goes Love" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin) "Take Care of My Baby" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin) "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Jerry Wexler) "Like Little Children" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin) "Beautiful" (Carole King) "Crying in the Rain" (Carole King, Howard Greenfield) "Way Over Yonder" (Carole King) "Yours Until Tomorrow" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin) "It's Too Late" (Carole King, Toni Stern) "Tapestry" (Carole King) "Just Once in My Life" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Phil Spector) "You've Got a Friend" (Carole King) edjames I'll try anything Posts: 220 Joined: Sat Oct 09, 2010 4:00 am • Private message • E-mail edjames Top • Report this post • Reply with quote Re: Sue Cameron’s Book by pat.dunham » Fri Aug 24, 2018 8:21 pm Thanks for the info re CK's compilation. I did not make myself clear, as I was referring to Sue Cameron's book. Having a " look in" on Amazon SC wrote that when Dusty was very ill Carole King with Carole Bayer Sager wrote five songs for Dusty, hoping that she would be able to record them. A demo by CK was sent via SC to Dusty but she did not listen to it. CK was so anxious that the recording be made she wanted to set up a recording studio in Dusty's house. Dusty admitted that she could no longer sing and the thought of meeting up with CK was just too much. Can't copy due to copyright. I haven't transcribed this very well but it is a very moving passage. I'd rather see the world the way it used to be....... ..I'm goin' back. While stopping over in NYC in December of 1967, Dusty and I discussed the availability of new material for her to record. She mentioned that she had phoned Carole the previous night and unfortunately Carole had nothing to offer her. edjames I'll try anything Posts: 220 Joined: Sat Oct 09, 2010 4:00 am • Private message • E-mail edjames Top • Report this post • Reply with quote Re: Sue Cameron’s Book by edjames » Fri Aug 31, 2018 8:39 pm The book arrived from Amazon this morning and I've had a quick scan through it. For those of you fearful that Sue would reveal some deep dark tales abut Dusty, rest in peace, Sue mentions Dusty four or five times throughout the book and only in one chapter does she specifically tell a Dusty tale, and one that is perhaps, quite touching and tearful. On page 91, under the heading SPECIAL NOTE. this is the story of Dusty's offer from Carole King: "Dusty Springfield was Carole King's favorite singer. She told me many times that Dusty was the best interpreter of her songs she'd ever heard. When Dusty was struggling with breast cancer, Carole and Carole Bayer Sager wrote about five songs fro Dusty to sing. I got a call from Carole(King) asking me to send the demos to Dusty and see if she would record them. I told her Dusty was getting weaker. Carole said that she would set up the entire studio in Dusty's house and come over to London and produce the songs herself. She told me her biggest dream was recording a duet with Dusty. I received the demos and listened before I sent them to Dusty. I couldn't stop crying. The songs were so beautiful and so perfect. I decided to send them to her with a note so she'd get a surprise in the mail. I called the day after I knew the CD would arrive to give her time to hear them. I told her on the phone how much I loved the songs and asked if she was happy with them. "I haven't listened to them. It makes me too sad." And then she paused and I heard her try to compose herself. "I can't sing anymore" said Dusty, one of the greatest voices in in the history of music. Her breast cancer was very advanced now and I wanted to curl up and die with her at this news. "You know Carole (King) wants to come over to your house and set up so its easy for you," I said trying not to cry with her (yet). "I am terrified to meet her," said Dusty. "Her talent is mindboggling. Even if I could still sing, I'd be afraid because she would be there. I wouldn't have been able to do it anyway." Carole was devastated by the news. I've never recovered from losing Dusty. " Dusty gets several more mentions in chapters related to Pheobe Snow, Labelle and a couple of other places. Two nice Dusty pics, one of Dusty and Sue at the tennis courts after a terrible case of discrimination against Nona when Dusty, Sue and Nona were blocked from playing tennis at the hotel. (we've seen this pic before, but the the tale of the event that lead up to it.) A nice group photo of Dusty, Lesley Gore,Jackie DeShannnon, Liz Torres, Jessica Walter and Marlo Thomas at Sue's birthday party at Richard Simmons(!) exercise studio in LA. (Cat will have to get her hands of this one to add to her collection on the picture thread) Finally Sue closes the book with a short chapter about the deaths of famous people and how difficult it becomes because they become part of "the public domain." All in all, this is hardly a tell-all, juicy tale of the the other side of Hollywood and most secrets are kept under wraps. This is a book relating various stories about people Sue has been close to over the years and from those parts I stopped to read she's respectful and polite. I will read the entire book very soon. edjames I'll try anything Posts: 220 Joined: Sat Oct 09, 2010 4:00 am • Private message • E-mail edjames Top • Report this post • Reply with quote Re: Sue Cameron’s Book by trek007 » Sat Sep 01, 2018 7:47 am Thanks for writing out the extract from the book.
