High cheek bones. Objective: Frames should aim to keep the natural balance of the face • Frames as wide as or wider than the widest part of the face framed • Avoid low swooping temples which will unbalance the face. • Try square, angular and geometric shapes to add angles to soft curves in Avoid: • Oval faces have small features – don’t overwhelm with large frames Famous people: Beyoncé, Julia Roberts. style Heart Shaped Johnny Depp – notice rounding of frames to soften the forehead and frames deep and broad below the eye line to offset narrow chin. Heart Heart: Wide forehead and high cheekbones with a narrow chin.. Objective: Not to accentuate the forehead - offset a narrow chin. • This means rimless glasses or certainly an inconspicuous colour on the top of your frames. • Frames should be slightly broad below the eye line to broaden the look of the chin • Frames with low set temples to draw attention down • Narrow round frames that soften the forehead Avoid: • Top heavy frames that draw attention upwards • Decorative temples that make a broad face look broader Famous people: Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Johnny Depp

Oblong Meryl Streep - note straight bottom lenses for horizontal effect and thick temples to shorten the face. Frame slightly nar- rower than the face to accentuate width. Oblong: Face longer than it is wide, with narrow chin and cheeks and a large forehead. Angular features with high cheekbones. Longer Oblong nose and tall forehead. Objective: to make the face broader and shorter • Frame width should be slightly narrower than the face to accentuate the width of the face; • Frame should be deeper than it is wide to shorten the face; • Temple hinges should connect to the lenses lower down than eye level to shorten the face; • Temples with strong decorative designs also shorten the face; • Temples should be broad to shorten the face; • Choose frames with strong horizontal lines to broaden the face

Avoid: • Small frames that are out of proportion; • Short frames that accentuate face length Famous people: Denzel Washington, Sara Jessica Parker

Round faced Marilyn Munroe – angular glasses give shape to face and upward sweeping lenses Round emphasise cheekbones. Round: Full cheekbones, few angles and width and length in similar proportions Objective: Frames should be selected to make the face look thinner and longer • Frames should be wider than they are deep – for example, rectangular frames • Temple hinges above eye level help to lengthen the face • Get angular frames to create definition and sharpen facial features •Upsweeping frames that draw attention to the top of the face Avoid: • Very round Frames that accentuate the roundness of your face. Famous people: Christina Ricci, Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslett, Elijah Wood, Jack Black

Square faced Brad Pitt – curve on bottom of lenses to distract from square jawline (note how facial hair is grown to complete imaginary downward triangle formed by glasses and beard carefully tinted at the point of the triangle to slim the face). Temple hinges meet frame on top to accentuate length of face Square Square: Broad forehead and strong jaw line, as well as a wide chin and cheekbones all of equal proportion Objective: Make the face longer and soften the angles • Frames wider than the widest part of the face and of a strong horizontal design • Avoid rims that are flat along the bottom as this mirrors and accentuates the jaw line. Instead a slightly curved rim distracts from the chin. • Hinges above the eye line to lengthen the face. • Try oval and round frames to break the square look

Avoid: • Geometric and square frames that accentuate your angular face. • Hinges that connect lower down the frame shortening the face or strong colour accents on the bottom of the frame which draw attention to your square chin Famous people: Demi Moore, Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt

Would you spot a heart attack?

The life of someone you love could depend on it

We all know about the “Movie Heart Attack” where someone gets a sudden and intense pain in their chest and collapses clutching their heart. However, most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort and often people wait too long before getting help because they are not sure what is happening. The symptoms can appear weeks before the main heart attack and if they are recognised in time, medical assistance could help avoid a damaging heart attack altogether.

The four main things to look for What to do if you suspect a heart 1. Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the centre of your chest. It often feels like having a heavy object being placed on your chest. It lasts attack more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back. The European Society of Cardiology recommends the following:

2. Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach. Call for immediate help if:

3. Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort. • You have persistent chest pain that is not relieved by nitroglycerin. Always consult a doctor before taking any medicine. 4. Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or light-headedness • Severe and persistent shortness of breath What causes a heart attack? • Fainting Heart attacks are caused by the arteries to the heart narrowing If you have any of these signs, don’t wait more than five minutes before because of fatty (plaque) build up over time. A blocked artery calling for help. Call 999 and get to a hospital right away. It would be a tragedy for your family if a potentially preventable heart attack happened because you were too shy Differences between Men and Women or did not want to cause a fuss.

As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or Consult your doctor or nurse as soon as possible if you experience the discomfort. However, women are somewhat more likely than men to experience following: some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/ vomiting, and back or jaw pain. According to a report published in Circulation: • Increasing shortness of breath and tolerating less and less activity Journal of the American Heart Institute, 95% of women who’ve had heart attacks reported experiencing symptoms in the weeks and month before the attack. • Consistently awakening short of breath

• Needing more pillows to sleep comfortably

• Rapid heart rate or worsening palpitations Discuss with your doctor or nurse: • Rapid weight gain of more than 2 kilos (3 lbs.) in three days

• Progressive swelling or pain in the abdomen

• Increasing swelling of the legs or ankles

• Worsening dizziness

• Loss of appetite/nausea

• Increasing fatigue

If you think someone is having a heart attack: • Worsening cough

• Call 999 immediately

• Get the person to sit in the W position (see photo above) For a simple animated explanation • Loosen any tight clothing about how heart disease happens go online to • Do not give them anything to eat or drink http://tiny.cc/rnbv3w

David Doherty is from Derry, but he had always dreamed about travelling the world and experiencing different cultures. In July 2008, he did the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course at Foyle International in order to fulfil his dream of travelling and teaching English abroad.

David tells us “I found the course really challenging and informative and thanks to the TEFL course, I found a job very quickly. TEFL has allowed me to travel and work in different countries from Spain to South Korea”. David first spent two years in Spain and then moved to Seoul, South Korea, for a year. He now teaches English in a private school to kids from kindergarten to high school. David explains, “I know I live in a place where the culture is radically different, but I find it good fun to try and adapt to way of life here. It is has been a life-changing experience and has been a fantastic opportunity for me”.

He highly recommends teaching and travelling, because “you get to see the world and get to know other cultures to a much deeper level”. He also talks to us about meeting lots of interesting new people and places. David believes that “anybody would enjoy this lifestyle, but the more outgoing and adventurous you are the better”.

So, what are you waiting for? If you share David’s dream and your biggest aim is to travel abroad and teach, just follow his steps! You can meet him next in Brazil which is his next destination. Once peeled, cut them in quarters/chunks and put them in a food processor together with the milk. Hallowe’en Unit 4, Epworth Business Park, Costumes Woodside Road, Free Parking BT47 2QD How to have the Christmas you really want! As I write this the Christmas fever is starting to emerge (and Halloween hasn’t even been!) and as you read this it will have well and truly arrived with bells on! How do you feel about the festive season? Love it? Hate it? Are you a scrooge or the spirit of Christmas itself? Whatever your feelings, how would you like to have the Christmas you really want? Outlined below are some tips on how to achieve this.

• First of all take a few minutes to ask your self what you really would like. What would be your ideal Christmas? Who’s involved? Where are you? What’s happening? Life coaching teaches us to be solution focused, start with the ideal out come first and then work back from that. Think about how you would cook your Christmas dinner… you start off with a picture of how your dinner should look either in your head or in a recipe book and then you work back i.e. you gather your ingredients, follow the recipe, time the process. So why wouldn’t you follow a recipe for the ideal Christmas? So build up a picture of this ideal scene. • Make your picture realistic. Does it fit in with everyone else? Is it achievable? Do you need a bit of compromise? Setting unrealistic targets and deadlines just adds pressure. Adjust your picture to some thing more realistic and achievable. • How are you going to achieve this picture? Ask yourself what you need to be to achieve this ideal Christmas? Organised? Calm? Positive? Firm? In control? • Acceptance. Sometimes we need to realise that there are things that are just out of our control and no amount of trying is going to change that. If you do have control over a certain situation then do some thing about it but if not, remember all you can control is yourself and your attitude. If you have never got on with that relation, why is this Christmas going to be any different? Agree to disagree and move on. • Get organised. Don’t leave it all to the last minute. Use a notebook or diary to make lists. List jobs and plan your days ahead and stick to it. Don’t forget to delegate… it shouldn’t be down to one person to organise. • Recognise when you have something done and feel good about it • Get some perspective. Do you really need to buy for everyone? Do you really need to send all those cards? Helen McDonnell Think of the environment and your poor wee postie! Do you really need enough food to see you through a nuclear www.indigocoaching.com attack? How many visitors do you really get? Christmas is really only two days! And the shops are only closed for 1 day! facebook.com/Indigo.i.Coaching • Focus on the positive. Always look to the good in a situation. You can’t get out of the compulsory family gathering, rows and all… just appreciate that you are all able to get together, next year might be different. Helen runs her own business Indigo i Coaching providing coaching services to • Feeling stressed or someone driving you mad? Bite your lip, don’t react, keep calm, take deep breaths, go for a walk. individuals, companies and organisations. Remember the only thing you can control is yourself…ahhhhhh. What do you need to be? And repeat it to yourself…. She helps people to re-connect with their calm… focused…rise above it… positive. Do take a break and plan some ‘me’ time. intuition, become unstuck and fit in their And my final tips … own skin. Indigo i Coaching is all about Buy a goat! Oxfam, Trocaire, UNICEF all have great gift ideas. Water for drought areas, vaccines for villages, blankets for babies and animals creating personal strategies for a future of for communities. In this age of technology and global warming be environmentally friendly and send Christmas cards by email across the world and down the street. You can also send charity e-cards. Recycle. Use newspaper or brown paper as wrapping paper and sparkly ribbon for effect. Cut out coloured card or use luggage labels as tags… be imaginative! When you are thinking about your ideal Christmas, consider what message you are sending to your children. What do you want them to understand about Christmas? Above all remember why you are celebrating Christmas! Contrary to belief Christmas is not about Santa, overeating and presents… we are celebrating the birth of a rather significant person! It is the season of goodwill so bulk up on that Christmas spirit!!
