There is no representation. In compliance of the order dated 11.05.2017, the Commissioner of Kumbakonam Municipality is present. The Commissioner was directed to appear today in view of the submission of the applicant that inspite of the order of the Hon’ble High Court of Madras in W.P.No.9929 of 2009 dated 10.02.2010 which settled the matter of dumping the Municipal Solid Waste in the disputed area, the Municipality is still dumping the Municipal Solid Waste in the same area viz., Theperumanallur Ammachatram. The Commissioner submits that the Muncipality is not dumping any Solid Waste in the said Ammachatram and the Municipality in fact is removing the Solid Waste which was dumped there earlier. The Commissioner also stated that half of the solid waste dumped earlier had already been removed through bio mining process and the municipality has established a Bio Methanation Plant and Compost Plant at Ammachatram in 10 acres of land. Let the Status Report be filed within 10 days. Sankar Department of Industries and Earth Sciences, Tamil University, Thanjavur-10 [email protected] Abstract:-Kumbakonam is a well developed maritime district of Tamil Nadu. Groundwater has been the mainstay for domestic needs of more than 80% of population in the district. Dug wells with a density of around 150 per sq km are the major groundwater based structures along the surface level. Groundwater has been the principle source of water supply for the Kumbakonam town and along the urban area. The groundwater withdrawals need be regulated to avoid any possible seawater ingress. Characterization by factor analysis of hydrochemistry of Kumbakonam Taluk has been attempted in this paper. Factor analysis assumes that observed variables are products of linear combinations of some few underlying source variable known as factors. Factor analysis has not been a major tool in the study of groundwater geochemistry as has been demonstrated in several studies (Lawrence and Upchurce, 1983; Olobaniyi and Owoyemi, 2006; Aris et al. 2007; Gallardo and Marui, 2007; Ramesh Kumar and Figure.1 Location Map.
