Athletics Home Page: www.gobroncs.com ON FIRE-BAUGH Freshman guard Makayla Firebaugh was awarded with MAAC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 28 after going for 11 points and a season-high seven re- bounds on Dec. 23 at NJIT. It was Firebaugh’s fourth double-figures scoring output. Firebaugh became Rider’s first MAAC Rookie of the Week in over three years since Jaiden Morris earned the honor on Dec. 11, 2017. MOBLEY IN DOUBLE FIGURES Junior point guard Amanda Mobley led the Broncs in scoring in each of this season’s first three games. She opened the year with 14 points at Villanova, before scoring 13 at home against Drexel. Mobley paced the Broncs with 14 points against Army West Point and also led the Broncs with eight points on Dec. 12 against Manhattan. RIDER ROOKIES RISING Freshmen Raphaela Toussaint and Makayla Firebaugh have made strong strides in the early season. A game after going for 11 points and seven rebounds against Drexel on Nov. 28, Toussaint scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting against Army West Point. She then added eight points on 4-of-5 shooting at Delaware State and posted her first-career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds at Iona on Dec. 19. Firebaugh connected on her first three collegiate field goals against the Black Knights for eight points, before scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting at Delaware State. She upped her season high to 17 on Dec. 11 against Manhattan. The 17 points are the most by a Bronc so far this season. She also scored in double figures with 12 points at Iona on Dec. 19. 2020-21 Rider Women’s Basketball IN THE OPENER Villanova was too much for the Broncs in their season opener on Nov. 25. Amanda Mobley led Rider with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, STATS EXTRA but the Wildcats outshot the Broncs, 52.6 percent to 25.0 percent to cruise to 2020-21 RIDER DOUBLE-FIGURE GAMES the victory.

Flu season in full swing at the College By Caroline Russomanno Arts & Entertainment Editor The flu has afflicted many College students lately, but according to Janice Vermeychuk, director of Health Services, this yearʼs flu season is not as bad as previous years. “Last year was a horrible year for the flu — we had 300 students in here with it,” Vermeychuk said. This yearʼs count hasnʼt reached those proportions yet, but the Collegeʼs flu season stretches until the start of Spring Break. “Spring Break tends to flush it out,” Barbara Clark, an adult Nurse Practitioner with Health Services, said. Tina Tan, the state epidemiologist for the Department of Health, said in a phone interview this season has not been “a more serious season compared to previous years. Weʼll have a better sense at the end of the season.” “All of the strains (of the flu) in the reported cases have been a match with the vaccine so far,” she added.
