Melbourne Football Club – Coach the Coach & Train the Trainer Opportunity! The Football Club is offering all coaches and trainers at SMJFL clubs a special inner sanctum experience.

Coach the Coach SMJFL coaches are invited to spend an evening with the coaching staff.

Melbourne's coaching staff will discuss skill and player development, and give you tips on how to get the best out of your team.

Train the Trainer In conjunction with Victor Sports, we'd also like to invite SMJFL trainers to spend an evening with Melbourne's medical staff. The medical team will discuss various techniques and give you tips on how to treat players and injuries.

Australian Sports Camps Attention all SMJFL Players! With School holidays fast approaching why not take the next step to improving you’re football in the upcoming AFL Football Camp.

NO LONGER Team Officials Permitted on Ground in Under 9 Matches Please be advised that now the Queen’s Birthday has passed, SMJFL Under 9 teams are no longer permitted to have a nominated team official on the field during play.

All coaches and officials must now operate from the bench area. Remembering, a maximum of only four of the following Team Officials are permitted in the designated Team Bench area during a football match: - Coach - Assistant Coach - Trainer - Runner - Team Manager

SMJFL Racial & Religious Tolerance We continue to remind all SMJFL members that the league does not condone in any way, shape or form racial and / or religious vilification. The league has a policy in place (SMJFL By-Laws Appendix 3 pp. 94 – 99), any breach of this policy will be dealt with swiftly and strongly by the League.

Please ensure you reiterate the message that racial and religious vilification is totally unacceptable with each of your members. No person shall engage in conduct that offends, humiliates, intimidates, contempts, ridicules, incites, threatens, disparages, vilifies or insults another person on the basis of that persons race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin.

Officials / Spectators Abuse of Umpires The SMJFL have strict codes of conduct which govern everyone involved with the league. These codes of conduct must be adhered to at all times, by everyone including all officials and spectators. No person is to threaten, direct abuse at or dispute the decision of an Umpire at any time. No person other than an Umpire Escort or Team Manager is to approach the Umpires at any time.

If an issue ever arises concerning an umpire please direct all communication through your clubs team manager and not the umpire directly.

Match Day Etiquette Guidelines Please continue to refer to the match day etiquette guidelines as a reference point when dealing with any issues that arise on match day

The SMJFL hope that these guidelines will offer assistance to Team Managers of how to best handle sensitive issues outside the game of football that may pop up at times on match days.

Before Match: 1. Coaches shake hands and introduce themselves to each other. 2. Team Managers shake hands and introduce themselves to each other. 3. Coaches and Team Managers discuss and clarify numbers on the ground if there is a shortage of players. 4. Home and Away Team Manager to introduce themselves to the umpire(s) and introduce each of their Umpire Escorts. 5. Home Team Manager to present the match footballs to the umpire(s).

During/After Match: 1. Any official’s comments to be made to the umpire must be directed through the Team Manager(s) only and without other individuals in the vicinity. 2. Coaches and Team Managers to ensure all Players and Officials shake hands at the end of the match. 3. Management at the Match of incidents, issues or complaints with Players, Officials or Spectators must be done in an isolated non-intrusive environment where only the relevant individuals are present. For example if the issue involves: a. Players – Parents of the Players must be present (if available) along with Team Managers. b. Officials – Only the actual Officials involved must be present along with Team Managers. c. Spectators – Only the actual Spectators involved must be present along with Team Manager. 4. At all times any attempted management of an incident, issue or complaint must be done in the appropriate manner without the situation becoming intimidating or daunting for the individuals involved. 5. If it is perceived an incident, issue or complaint cannot be resolved at the time then Team Managers are directed to raise the matter with the club as soon as possible.
