Executive produced by Roots' Black Thought and ?uestlove, 46 songs here divided into two discs, show an impressive command of both showtunes and hip-hop era. Hamilton Cd Original Original Starring RecordingHip hop is nothing if not rich in drama. Aside from even competitive animosity, the best rap music chronicles its creators' highs and lows, detailing the gnarled realities of a difficult life lived triumphantly. Hip-hop and theater, with their shared love of linear storytelling, should make for more frequent bedfellows, but it took until this year for two genres to combine a duly deafening effect. Debuting at the Public Theater to rave earlier this year and accumulating hype ever since, the rap musical Hamilton tells the story of a founding father of the United States born and orphaned in the Caribbean who used tremendous writing talent to catapult from the island of St. Croix and leave the same deep fingerprint in the history of the United States as it was done. Hamilton couldn't be an easy show to write, even for a theater scientist like Lin-Manuel Miranda, 35-year-old Grammy-winning author In The Heights and the latest MacAuthur Genius Grant recipient. The play consists of 46 separate songs, divided between two discs (Acts I and II) that make up the album. Taken by Miranda from Ron Chernow's biography, Alexander Hamilton, the songs are vehicles for Hamilton's life experience, and great efforts have been made to maintain the accuracy of an already fascinating story amid the also-needed flicker of theatrical performance. Pairing early U.S. history with one of the country's youngest musical art forms, one born of the underprivileged especially, could be as painful as listening to one of your history teachers bust the rhyme, but Miranda's team as a golden era of hip-hop and showtunes allows him to turn the pomp and circumstance of even congressional proceedings with his head. Although supposedly a rap record, from the show's opener, Alexander Hamilton, it's immediately apparent that we're still essentially in musical and theatrical territory. Theatrical dialogue must be clear and audible to reach its audience, even if it is represented in the song, which deprives the actors of the freedom to engage in grandiose tonal flourishes or vocal ticks. Miranda and his cast delivery is persistent and well-made, streams come with the precision of a watchmaker. It helps that the song itself is a cheerfully economical review of Hamilton's early years: the treacherous hurricane that destroyed St. Croix, a letter he wrote to his absentee father that published in a local newspaper and caused such fervor on the island that a group of businessmen took the collection to send then 17-year-old Hamilton to New York for college. Drive one is more hilarious of the pair, chronicling Hamilton's rise to prominence, and flexing a number of smile-inducing touchtones. Over the beatboxing and breakdown of the drum replicating hands knocking on the lunch table, we get introduced to Hamilton's final killer, Aaron Burr. 'My Shot' is The pair's beating pairs are thus too close to slam poetry for anyone well, but the number of introductions to Sister Schuyler, (one of which Hamilton will marry and the other, whom he'd keep suspiciously affectionate pen buddy correspondence with) sounds like this could be the last second album exception for the one hit wonder and infamous Wyclef protege, High City. 'Wait For It' moves with dancehall lilt and the Ten Duel Commandments pays homage to the Notorious B.I.G.

Brea Wardlaw Meigs Academic Magnet Middle School • Title: Actress • Job Description: An actor is a person who portrays a character in a performance (also actress; see below).[1] The actor performs "in the flesh" in the traditional medium of the theatre or in modern media such as film, radio, and television. The analogous Greek term is ὑποκριτής (hupokritḗs), literally "one who answers".[2] The actor's interpretation of their role—the art of acting—pertains to the role played, whether based on a real person or fictional character.* *Source: en.m.wikipedia.org • Why would I like to have this job? I’d like to be an actress because I LOVE to act. It’s fun because I can get to be a different person. It’s like being your own alter ego. I feel happy and powerful when I’m acting. The best thing about it is getting to tell a story in your own way, by acting the words you say (haha that rhymes!) What makes a good actress? To be a good actor/actress, you have to feel the part to be the part. And you have to be passionate about the role you are playing. Having chemistry and getting along with the other cast members is also a very important part of acting. A good actor/actress also needs to step out of his or her comfort zone, every once in a while so they can embrace themselves. Are you a good actress? I feel like I am. I feel like I have all of the right traits and abilities and the right personality.

  • Who Tells Your Story?: Intersections of Power, Domesticity, and Sexuality Relating to Rap and Song in the Musical Hamilton
WHO TELLS YOUR STORY?: INTERSECTIONS OF POWER, DOMESTICITY, AND SEXUALITY RELATING TO RAP AND SONG IN THE MUSICAL HAMILTON By Tia Marie Harvey A THESIS Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree Musicology—Master of Arts 2019 ABSTRACT WHO TELLS YOUR STORY?: INTERSECTIONS OF POWER, DOMESTICITY, AND SEXUALITY RELATING TO RAP AND SONG IN THE MUSICAL HAMILTON By Tia Marie Harvey In January 2015, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton: An American Musical premiered at The Public Theater in New York City. Later that year it moved to Broadway with an engagement at the Richard Rodgers Theater, followed by productions in Chicago and London. Commercially successful and critically acclaimed, Hamilton continues to hold significant cultural relevance in 2019. As a result of this musical’s cultural significance, it has the ability to communicate positive, but also limiting, aspects of our society. In this thesis, I examine the concept of rap as a musical language of power. To do this, I assert that characters in Hamilton who have power, and particularly when expressing that power, do so through rap. In contrast, when characters don’t have power, or are entering realms of the powerless (i.e. spaces gendered female), they do so through lyrical song. In chapter 1, I set up the divide between rap and song as it primarily translates among male characters and class. Chapter 2 is focused on the domestic sphere, and in chapter 3 I discuss sexuality. In the conclusion of this thesis, I revisit the character of Eliza and explore the perceived power of her role as storyteller and the way in which the themes I discuss illuminate many missed opportunities to present an interpretation of America’s founding that is truly revolutionary.

... ,-. ,// ./- ,-.,.:-.-: Hamilton’s Plot Point Problems (an incomplete list) - The two main characters, Hamilton and Burr, barely knew each other during the war years; their paths rarely crossed. - Alexander Hamilton did not punch the bursar at Princeton College. - Hamilton did not carouse at a tavern with Mulligan, Lafayette, and Laurens in 1776 and Sam Adams, who Miranda name-checks as the brewer of the beer at that pub, is a reference to a brewing company that wasn’t established until 1984. In truth, Hamilton met Mulligan, Lafayette, and Laurens separately, several years after 1776. - Angelica Schuyler sings that “My father has no sons so I’m the one / Who has to social climb.” That’s nonsense. In 1776, Philip Schuyler had three sons. - Angelica Schuyler was married her rich British husband before she ever met Alexander Hamilton. - Samuel Seabury wrote four loyalist pamphlets, not one. He wrote them in 1774 and 1775, not in 1776. By 1776, the patriots had already imprisoned Seabury in Connecticut for speaking out against the war. - King George did go mad later in life, although not until many years later. The causes were medical not geopolitical. - Burr’s meeting with General Washington, the meeting in which he tries to offer questions and suggestions, is invented. - John Laurens was not “in South Carolina redefending bravery” during the Battle of Yorktown. He was there at the battle and went to South Carolina later. - Hamilton never asked Burr to join him in writing The Federalist Papers - John Adams didn’t fire Hamilton during his presidency. Hamilton had resigned earlier, in 1795, while Washington was still president.
