Joanne P. McCallie was the head coach of the U21 World Championship Team as she led the squad to an 8-0 record and the gold medal in Moscow, Russia. Mike Krzyzewski was the head coach of the USA Basketball Senior National Team. He led the USA Team to a 10-0 record and the gold medal at the FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas, Nev. With both McCallie and Krzyzewski winning USA gold medals in the same year, they became just the second coaching tandem to accomplish the feat (Stanford, ‘96). 4 Duke Foursome Wins Gold In 2007 Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie and junior Abby Waner led the USA Basketball U21 World Championship Team to an 8-0 record and the gold

    WBCA Announces Preseason "Wade Watch" Selections for 2008-09 ATLANTA, Ga. (August 19, 2008) -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association, on behalf of the Wade Coalition, announced the 2008-09 preseason "Wade Watch" list for the State Farm Wade Trophy Division I Player of the Year Tuesday. The 25-member list is made up of top Division I student-athletes who best embody the spirit of Lily Margaret Wade according to the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability. "Once again our committee has done an amazing job putting together a stellar group of student-athletes that have shown their leadership on the court, in the classroom and in the community," said committee chair Jeanne Lenti Ponsetto. "Each one represents all that this award is about, and I look forward to April when we will name another talented woman to this prestigious list." This year's list has 18 institutions and six conferences represented. Connecticut boasts the highest number of nominees with three (Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery and Maya Moore) while Cal (Devanei Hampton and Ashley Walker), Duke (Chante Black and Abby Waner), Maryland (Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver), Rutgers (Epiphanny Prince and Kia Vaughn) and Stanford (Jayne Appel and Kayla Pederson) each add two. The BIG EAST leads all conferences yet again with eight student-athletes followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference (6), the Pacific-10 Conference (4), the Big 12 Conference (3), Big Ten Conference (2) and Southeastern Conference (2). Four seniors in Coleman, Paris, Toliver and Walker are making the list for the third year.

    Top 20 High School Seniors Selected for 2005 WBCA High School All-America Game ATLANTA, Ga. (February 16, 2005) -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today the nation's top 20 girl's basketball players selected to participate in the 14th annual WBCA High School All-America Game, presented by Nike. The players who have been chosen will be divided into two teams with ten players each. The college-style regulation game is scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at the University of Indianapolis' Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis, Indiana. The game is scheduled to tip-off during the "WBCA Night of All-Stars" at 4:30 p.m. (Indianapolis time) followed by the WBCA All-Star Challenge, which will feature 20 of the top senior collegiate players in the nation. This capstone event tips-off the 24th Annual WBCA National Convention, which takes place at the site of the NCAA Women's Final Four. "The WBCA High School All-America Game Selection Committee has done a fantastic job assembling a great crop of talent," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "As always, basketball fans will have the privilege of watching twenty of the best high school players in the country.
