BOLIVAR Simon Bolivar was one of the great figures of the 19th century, who liberated much of South America from Spanish rule. The name is an ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba – the earliest known form of a Habano. The brand was created in 1966 for the president Fidel Castro and since 1982 has been available in limited quantities to the public. CUABA Created in 1966 at the Romeo y Julieta factory, Cuaba is specialised in a very distinctive shape known as “Double Figurado” meaning double-pointed. The word Cuaba, as per Cohiba, is dated back to Columbus times; it was the name for a highly combustible bush used to light the “Cohibas”. Distinguidos 35 Salomones 55
Prices are in £, inclusive of VAT. DAVIDOFF A brand created in 1968 by the legendary Zino Davidoff, known as the “king of cigars”. The 1970’s saw a tremendous success for the brand, as cigar shops opened to the public all over the world selling an exceptional range of premium cigars rolled at the “Laguito” factory. All Davidoff cigars produced in Cuba were discontinued in 1991 and the brand then started to produce cigars in the Dominican Republic. In 2013 the “Nicaragua” series were released incorporating Nicaraguan tobacco into the blend. DUNHILL Before the Cuban revolution, Alfred Dunhill had numerous distribution and marketing agreements with several Cuban cigar manufacturers, selling exclusive and hard-to- find sizes and brands. UPMANN Herman Upmann was a German banker who so loved Cuban cigars that he moved to Havana in 1844 and established himself there as both a banker and cigar maker. His bank closed in the early 1920’s, but his cigars live on as a fine example of elegant light-medium flavoured Habanos. HOYO DE MONTERREY Hoyo de Monterrey owes its origin to the small town of San Juan y Martínez, right in the heart of the premium tobacco growing region of “Vuelta Abajo” in Pinar del Río, Cuba. The brand was created by José Gener in 1865, offering a mild blend, yet very complex, being suitable for every smoker. MONTECRISTO The name for the brand was inspired by the Alexandre Dumas novel “The Count of Montecristo” which was a very popular choice among the cigar rollers in the factory, who were read the novel by a lector on the rolling floor. The brand was created in 1935 and today it is one of the most appreciated in the world. PARTAGAS Created in 1845 by the Catalan Don Jaime Partagás, it is one of the oldest cigar brands. Don Jaime’s ability to choose from among the best and finest tobaccos in Cuba, and an instinct for blending and fermenting tobacco, made the brand incredibly successful. PRE-EMBARGO If you are lucky enough to come across cigars which are called Pre-Embargo, that’s pre- 1962. It was very common pre-embargo to have Cuban cigars commissioned by foreign companies as gifts or promotional products.
This cigar was made for a company called Beck Y Co in the vitola of petit corona. The tobacco is exceptional as it came from a different seed to the one planted today, so it does age and taste different. Beck Y Co coronas 1950’s 200

Winston Churchill became the devotee of the brand and following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band, but it has also served to describe the marque's most famous size - Romeo y Julieta Churchill. SANCHO PANZA Like other great Habano brands, Sancho Panza takes its name from a literature masterpiece. In Don Quixote, it was Sancho Panza who served the errant knight as his fateful squire.
