www.planitplus.net Fife College Fife College was formed in August 2013 from the merger of Adam Smith, Carnegie College and the non landbased department of Scotland's Rural College (SRUC). The main campuses are in Dunfermline (Halbeath), Kirkcaldy (St Brycedale and Priory), Glenrothes (Stenton), Levenmouth and Rosyth, with a network of local learning centres throughout Fife. Fife college is home to 17,000 students and 1,000 staff. A new campus in Dunfermline at the Shepherd Offshore site is planned. Courses and subjects The college offers over 400 courses across 40 different subject areas at a range of different levels, including NC, HNC, HND, SVQ and degrees. There is a wide range of subjects split into different departments: Access to Qualifications, Further Study and Higher Education; Administration, Office Technologies and Legal Services; Built Environment; Business, Enterprise and Accounting; Childcare; Community and Supported Learning; Creative Industries; Culinary Arts and Hospitality; Digital, Computing and Cyber; Data Science; Engineering and Energy; Mathematics; ESOL; Hair, Beauty and Make- Up Artistry; Health and Social Care; Mathematics; Science; Social Science; Sport and Fitness; STEM; and Tourism, Events and Customer Service. Facilities and services There are libraries, student support and guidance teams, student support and guidance teams, student association, cafes, bistros and restaurants, available across all campuses. In addition there is a theatre at St Brycedale, hair, beauty and holistic therapy salons located at Cupar, Halbeath, Stenton and St Brycedale Campuses, and a fully equipped gym with sports hall and fitness studio, also at St Brycedale. Specialisms The college has a number of specialisms but places focus on the key employment sectors in the region, including construction, engineering, and digital technologies. Statistics Publication Notice Lifelong Learning Series 29th March 2011 Higher Education Students and Qualifiers at Scottish Institutions 2009-10 Statistics on Students and Qualifiers on Higher Education (HE) courses at Scottish Institutions 2009-10 are published today by Scotland’s Chief Statistician. This publication contains updates of the figures in the ‘Students in Higher Education at Scottish Institutions 2008-09’ publication, published on 17th March 2010, and updates of the figures on qualifiers from the ‘Attainment in Higher Education and Destinations of Qualifiers 2008-09’ publication, published on 29th September 2010. The figures reported here supersede those contained within previous releases. The release contains information on HE provision in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Scotland as well as Scotland’s colleges. Summary of Key Findings: • Both the number of students (287,565) and the number of entrants (147,465) to HE in Scotland reached record levels in 2009-10. Compared to the previous year student numbers increased by 2.8% and entrant numbers by 2.3%. • Recent trends in the number of Scottish students have shown increasing numbers in the last two years following a fall to 209,170 in 2007-08. Since 2007-08 the number of Scottish students has increased by 3.1%, students from the rest of the UK and from outside the UK have increased by 6.6% and 19.8% respectively (including an increase of 26.9% from EU students in the last two years). • In 2009-10 entrants from deprived areas were under represented by -3.8 percentage points. In 2001-02 representation of this group stood at -5.8 percentage points, since then representation has increased each year and is now at the highest level recorded, due to both a slight depopulation of deprived areas and increased participation in HE from those areas.

FIFEPLAN – EXAMINATION The Scottish Government Reporter has issued the Examination report on FifePlan. Her findings are final and Fife Council is bound to take account of the conclusions when finalising the Plan for adoption by the full Council. Thereafter, planning applications will be tested against the approved Plan. To recap, the issues that Fife Council proposed and that affect Townhill are: Housing developments at: Chamberfield –up to 50 houses Kent Street – up to 120 houses Colton – up to 150 houses (TCC objected to all three on the grounds of uncertainty over school places at Townhill PS and coalescence between Townhill and Dunfermline). Rejected Housing development at: Muir Road Muir Road – Waxwing (TCC supported the continued exclusion of these sites from the Plan) Brownfield site development at: Former Power station Loch Car Park (TCC did not object to development of these sites but alerted against coalescence with development of Kent Street) Transportation: A new link road , a section of which runs from Wellwood (A823) to Whitefield Road and dissects the Country Park, bespoiling the Loch area. (The Northern Link Road). (TCC, along with other community groups, objected to the NLR proposals on several grounds and specifically the section through the Country Park) Issues of indirect impact on Townhill: Development by Taylor Wimpey of housing at a 1400 unit site at Halbeath along with a primary school, health centre and retail units, and the onward eastern section of the NLR. (TCC did not object to this development but alerted against its size and the impact on Townhill and its primary school).
