April 7 – 15, 2019 Start-up Nation Tel Aviv, Israel Study Tour ISRAEL: Land of Disruptive Innovation • Discover how Israel, a country with only 7 million people, no natural resources, enemies on every border, and in a constant state of war, can produce more start-up companies than many of the leading economies. • This Study tour aims to inspire students through the visit of kibbutz, industrial parks, meeting with entrepreneurs in Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Jerusalem, to understanding how startups, and mid-size companies operate and scale up. • We will immerse in the Israeli culture by; learning its history, understanding its religion, interacting with people, discovering its cuisine and traveling through the urban and rural sites that make Israel what it is today. Course & Study Tour Start-Up Nation Study Tour Total: 1.5 UMAs Valid as: Experience, Management Elective or Entrepreneurship Elective *Study tour, includes 6 preparation sessions (Fridays at 1:00PM) Students & Alumni • To further enrich the experience and enhance personal networks, we aim to have a mix between undergrad students, alumni and UFM friends. • If you are interested in participating make sure to contact us to reserve your spot by October 5th • Group size: Up to 24* *A group minimum of 18 participants is required. Detail of our Agenda • Plan to arrive at Ben Gurion Airport by April 7th during the day. Our first group activity will be a welcome dinner Sunday evening at downtown Tel Aviv. • During our first 3 days in Tel Aviv we will have company visits during the mornings, and optional group activities during the afternoons to immerse in the cultural experiences that Tel Aviv offers • Included: Guided tour to the port city of Jaffa to hear its history and explore its alleyways and marketplaces. • Optional: Dine with the locals through Eatwith, the world’s largest community for authentic food experiences. • Optional: Wind your way through the Carmel markets to taste spices, fruits and veggies, and local delicacies. • Optional: The Writing on the Walls - Explore southern Tel Aviv’s bohemian neighborhoods with a graffiti tour. • After leaving Tel Aviv we will immerse in a historic, religious and cultural expedition through Israel, visiting Galilee, Haifa, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea. • Our study tour will conclude in the evening of April 15th with a farewell dinner, so participants can take an overnight flight from Ben Gurion Airport. Tel – Aviv & Herzliya Company Visits *Company visits are subject to change without notice Itinerary: Sunday 7th: Welcome dinner in Tel Aviv Tuesday 9th: Tel Aviv – A Cultural Mosaic Monday 8th: Tel Aviv - The Gateway to Israel Wednesday 10th: Tel Aviv - The Nonstop City Thursday 11th: Country Rooted in History and Innovation • Tour Kibbutz Mishmar Haemek with a local resident. This Pre-Independence Kibbutz was established in 1926 and has a rich and dramatic past. Mishmar Haemek is one of the rare non- privatized Kibbutzim and is now one of the richest in Israel. • Visit MATAM Haifa High Tech Park. • Ports, Kings and Crusaders: Explore the port city of Akko, tasting the local foods and engaging in the unique intermingled history of Arabs, Jews and Christians. Walk through the Knights Halls, the market places and the beautiful ancient port. Overnight in GAlilee Friday 12th: Coexistence in the Galilee • Walk through the alleyways of Nazareth’s old city on a cultural tour that will take you into people’s homes, synagogues and churches. Continue to the home of a local family for a traditional Middle Eastern meal. • Visit Tulip Winery and learn about their vision of combining the production of quality wine with social responsibility. The winery is located in Kfar Tikva (Village of Hope) the first community settlement established for adults with developmental and emotional disabilities. • Start your stay in Jerusalem with an overlook from the Mt of Olives. Overnight in Jerusalem Saturday 13th: Masada and the Dead Sea • Hike up the Snake Trail or take a cable car to the top of the ancient desert fortress Masada and enjoy incredible views of the Dead Sea. Hear the inspiring story of the 960 men, women, and children that were the last to resist the Romans during the Great Jewish Revolt, almost 2000 years ago. • Lunch, swim and relaxation at the Dead Sea. Let your worries float away as you pamper yourself with natural mud, full of minerals from the lowest place on earth. • Take a short hike to see the beautiful hidden waterfalls at the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve. Overnight in Jerusalem Sunday 14th: Jerusalem: Triumph, Tragedy and the Future • Remembering the Holocaust: A comprehensive tour of Yad Vashem, including the Historical Museum, The Children’s Memorial and the Hall of Remembrance. As the Jewish people’s living memorial to the Holocaust, Yad Vashem safeguards the memory of the past and imparts its meaning for future generations. • Within the Walls: A tour of the religious and cultural focal points of the four quarters of the Old City. Wind through the alleys of the Old Arab Bazaar, join the hustle and bustle of the Jewish Quarter, with the Cardo at its the heart. Visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Christian Quarter. The tour will include an overview of the Temple Mount, the Dome of the Rock and the El Aksa Mosque. • Descend underground through interweaving layers of history for a compelling tour of the Western Wall Tunnels. Overnight in Jerusalem Monday 15th: Jerusalem: A Center for Three Great Monotheistic Faiths • A New Tradition is Born: Visit the spiritual city of Bethlehem stopping at significant sites such as The Church of Nativity, built over the cave considered to be the birthplace of Jesus, and Shepherds Fields, identified with the shepherds that saw the star of nativity. • A tasting tour through the Machane Yehuda fresh produce market; take in the sights and sounds of this fantastic Jerusalem institution. Hear the stories of the many different ethnic backgrounds of the vendors. • The Quest for Peace: Jerusalem is a microcosm of the Arab-Israeli conflict, conveying the human, political, and territorial dimensions. Stop at several observation points overlooking the security barrier, as well as checkpoints to the West Bank, for a geo-strategic survey of the neighborhoods surrounding Jerusalem.
